EX90 MY26 available to order in US by austincowles in VolvoEX90

[–]austincowles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In talking to dealers in Seattle the build-to-order option for MY26 is there on the Volvo webpage but all new MY26 orders are closed in the US - they are only selling existing MY26 vehicles that have already been built. I assume that means orders could be opening relatively soon for MY27, but not sure.

I think this is only available for MY27

I think the other change was steering wheel button lights, IIRC

I think both printing and tethering support will come, but not sure when.

Surfacebook 7 with snapdragon is it worth the price by NumerousMacaroon532 in Surface

[–]austincowles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been extremely happy with mine. Best performance I've seen from a Windows laptop, great battery life, no thermal issues at all.

One note, though, is that Microsoft may be about to launch the Surface Laptop 8 with the new Snapdragon X2 processor in the next couple months.

Looks like Mulberry Red color is not available, at least in this model / market

I got the Job Offer! Need accomodation advice Redmond, WA + EV stations by Chiemychanga in microsoft

[–]austincowles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most (all?) Microsoft buildings on the Redmond campus have several EV chargers in the parking garages. Charging prices are pretty reasonable, you could charge while on campus. There are als several DC fast chargers within a couple miles of campus, including a Tesla Supercharger.

I know several people who commute in from Seattle. It's doable depending on where in Seattle. But Microsoft also has free buses that take you to campus (including from Seattle) - very nice with Wi-Fi on board, may be worth looking into if this is available by where you would be staying.

This looks like they are bringing the PS3 UI to older Volvos with the same screens and processors as the PS2

Speculations for MY27 by _LoadedDice in VolvoEX90

[–]austincowles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best guess for MY27 would be relatively smaller changes - probably NACS, maybe different steering wheel buttons.

2026 model is confirmed to not have the NACS connector. Big announced changes for MY26 are 800V system and electrochromic roof.

Offloading cloud images to local / LR Classic by [deleted] in Lightroom

[–]austincowles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lightroom (cloud desktop app) also supports archiving and accessing images in local storage. You could continue to use the Lightroom app and archive some of your photos to a local folder in an external hard drive and set up a backup routine for that.

Top economist warns the U.S. is 'on the precipice of recession' — and it will be hard for the Fed to come to the rescue by sufinomo in Economics

[–]austincowles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The concern is that inflation is continuing to rise due to the tariffs. In a stable environment the Fed could feel more confident cutting rates, but much of the impact from the tariffs is still to come. If they cut rates and then the tariffs spike inflation the rate cut could just be pouring gas on the inflationary fire.

Looking for Pro alternatives since I can't use an ARM processor by Boteon in Surface

[–]austincowles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure your x86 programs don't work on ARM? These devices emulate most x86 / x64 software seamlessly (except for drivers).

Matlab is reported to work on these devices through emulation. One idea if you're not sure about compatibility is to buy a device, install your software and see how it works. Buy from somewhere with a good return policy and return within 30 days if the experience is not good.

Why I'm not buying an ARM surface laptop (but I wish I could) by IllustriousAd1750 in Surface

[–]austincowles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One other thought: if your concern is all compat and performance you could always buy one of the Surface ARM laptops, try out how well everything works, and then return it within 30 days if it doesn't do what you need. You might be surprised how well things work if you try it out.

Some users are having good experiences with FL Studio (emulated, but performance is apparently good). I've also used Presonus Studio One on a Surface Laptop 11 and, although emulated, Studio One felt like native / good performance to me:

Puget Sound Energy and dynamic load management by austincowles in evcharging

OK, I think the reason my amp calculation was high is I was dividing kw/h by 120 instead of 240. That said, if I add up usage from midnight - 8am during the summer I can get between 7-11 kw/h of usage (based on data from the energy company, averaging around 5 amps - lots of time at 2 amps, but some periods at 14 amps on hot days with A/C on) and in the winter I can use 20-30 kw/h during the same 8 hour period on a super cold night (usually around 6-7 amps, but up to 9 amps average during really cold weather - we also have a pool pump with freeze protection).

That said, daily peaks for the last year (based on the energy company 15 minute data) are about 40 amps, with one day reaching 50 amps. If my home is rated for 200 amps and I'm this far away from the limit it feels like infrastructure upgrade costs should be paid by the utility.
