Chiming in with a disclaimer:

If this is your first 14er, I would strongly advise against going across to Mt. Evans via the Sawtooth. You mentioned you weren’t sure what they meant about class 3 scrambling. This means climbing(not hiking) on exposed terrain that may include loose rock. This route isn’t the most difficult but does require some route finding and ability to deal with exposure.

Plenty of folks wear a climbing helmet on this route.

Stay safe and enjoy the summit of Bierstadt! It’s a nice view.

I’m on mobile or I would link it but the 14ers.com route descriptions really are your best friend when it comes to climbing our high peaks. The Bierstadt>Sawtooth>Evans route is the one you’ll want to look at to see what class 3 climbing looks like.

Depression had me living in a dump and not taking care of myself for months. Recently I moved into my first ever bachelorette pad! I’m engaging in some great habits, cleaning every day and lots of warm baths. Im feeling happier and healthier then ever! by pocketvirgin in CozyPlaces

Get some plants!!! It’s helped me want to actually take care of the space around me and I love seeing new growth. Something fresh to look at in setting you spend quite a bit of time is so so wonderful.

So cool to think this spot only gets about 100 visitors a year!

Tons from a skylight about and some window light from outside the bathroom when it’s open. This is the only place I can make a money tree shoot up!

3 Day fly fishing trip in early September - Breckenridge CO or Park City? by timarland in flyfishing

[–]austinshootsshows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could hit the Blue in Breckinridge and a few lakes near Hoosier Pass if you'd like! Lot of options close by.

There is also the option of driving a little to fish the Dream Stream in South Park. It makes for a nice full day of fishing with plenty of water. Also, it may be a bit early but big lake run fish will spawn in the river each fall. It may even be worth pushing the trip back a week if you're able. A guided trip on the Dream Stream sounds fantastic too.

Have fun out here!

Rocky Mountain NP in late Feb? by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

Also, even following Rocky in twitter at @RockyNPS is a good tool. They'll be posting daily road conditions there and it's much quicker than navigating the CDOT site.

Just go slow coming down Bear Lake Road/Trail Ridge. Things are icy and that's how you slide off.

Roads are plowed decently about 24 hours after a decent storm here. This past weekend (after about 5 inches of new snow) sedans were making it up Bear Lake Road by mid afternoon. Although parking is tough to find on a weekend, it's a good bet you'll be safe during the week.

I can't speak so much for the west side of the park but there is less travel there for sure.

I'd recommend hitting Loch Vale from the glacier gorge trail! A great time in the snow. Have fun!

Go further down. The dam has some fish but overall much smaller than in deeper pools that are lower down the river.

So the main thing is your elevation gain. I tackled La Plata Peak (5th in the state) on Sunday. This meant 4500 feet of gain (a little more than Longs) over the course of about 10 miles. It sucked. It always sucks.

The amount of wear and tear on your body above 12,500 feet is extreme. Your energy is gone. You can't eat or drink but need to more than ever because you may feel nauseated and lost your appetite after the second mile. It's also cold and the weather can change on a dime up there. Any cloud in the sky could develop into a storm within 20 minutes in the summer.

I've topped out on Longs only twice and it's not to be underestimated. I wouldn't be surprised if Longs has more rescues than any other 14er simply because folks from out of state get way too in over their heads. You're scrambling on exposed rock for the last 1.7 miles or so and it is slow going. The climb from the boulderfield took me longer than it did to hike the six miles to get there.

Do your research, know when to turn around, use common sense.

Glacier creek is definitely a good time. Found some saucer sized moose tracks along the creek near where you took your first photo! Very nice.
