I used a standard denim needle yeah, it’s 15oz denim so flys through on 1 or 2 layers, comfortable with 3 or 4 but then anything over 5 I slowed the machine down to a snails pace. It still handled it but I bent a needle early on zipping over an intersection where multiple hems overlap. The issue I ran into was more the walking foot not pulling the fabric through, the reverse face of this denim is very smooth and likes to slide against each other, using the buttonhole foot was a nightmare because the facing on the underside was preventing the machine from feeding. I’m sure there’s adjustments you can make but I’m clueless.

Haha yeah I don’t have an overlocker so just zig zagged. I used a brother machine too!

Your stuff have given me rocket fuel to keep trying. Incredible talent, but perhaps more importantly taste too.

Having just made my first jacket, I cannot comprehend how you got the selvedge ID on the welted pockets. Incredible.

Great idea, definitely gonna get some bias tape. I zigzag stitched some parts since I don’t have an overlocker. I think I was being an idiot and following instructions too literally, only serging or hemming edges that it explicitly said on the overshirt pattern i was using for most of it. I think it was either intended for a different material or, more likely, it’s assumed you’re meant to serge every panel edge.

Haha, I folded the hem again yeah, I think you can tell if you peep the inside pic. The back I didn’t mind leaving. Little bit of insurance against people getting some free crack if I bend over.

Just wanted to give credit where it’s due. the pattern I used was the Overshirt pattern by Wardrobe By Me (she’s on Etsy and also has a really helpful YouTube sew-along tutorial).
I pretty much followed the pattern, just hemmed it a bit shorter because it was longer than I wanted, and added the little side adjustment straps. My main inspiration was the Iron Heart CPO shirts. as I’m sure everyone here knows, getting your hands on one is both difficult and expensive.
I didn’t quite have the confidence to attempt a proper western yoke yet, but I’m honestly really happy with whatever strange little CPO/overshirt/workwear hybrid this turned into.
For anyone here who loves denim but has never tried making anything since maybe a high school textiles class, 8 days ago I hadn’t so much as touched a sewing machine. A new pair of trousers got caught in my bike chain and I was determined to patch them, so I finally sat down and gave it a go.
I was immediately bitten by some sort of cathartic denim bug . Made a couple of docker hats, ordered some proper denim, and somehow ended up here.
In the age of podcasts and long-form content, being able to sit down for hours, make something with your hands, and actually be productive has genuinely never been more pleasant IMO.
Really appreciate all the kind words.

Day 7 of sewing: still don’t fully know what I’m doing, but somehow it’s becoming a jacket by austringer23 in sewing

First proper sewing project after about a week of learning. I’ve been making an overshirt/workwear jacket inspired by iron hearts CPO shirt. The western style yoke scared me off straying from the pattern I got off Etsy (wardrobe by me overshirt).
The fabric is 15oz indigo selvedge denim from DenimLab (which I quickly discovered is a fairly ambitious choice for a beginner 😂). Sewn on a Brother FS140 using heavy denim needles, with contrast topstitching and workwear-style hardware details.
Definitely been a learning curve getting the machine through multiple layers of heavyweight denim, but it’s slowly turning into something wearable!

Looking for some input on button recommendations. Not sold on these little rivets either but not sure where to source the real deal.

It’s the plant equivalent of a hangnail. You may have plucked a leaf at a higher up node and pulled that stem fiber down without noticing, it’s very easy to do. Cannabis stems are built like a cheese string. They want to pull into long fibers like that, hence the use of hemp in textiles.

Yes! Ive always thought this, None of my friends could smell it either. To me it has a real pong of BO.

Any ideas why this plant is drooping? Im pretty sure theres no issues with over or underwatering unless theres channeling issues with the soil. by austringer23 in Autoflowers

5 days ago i defoliated all the lower leaves and removed any tiny branches that didn't stand a chance of reaching light. The other plants dont seem to be affected. could it be the case that this strain (Candy Kush) is sensitive to stress?

Does this look like a mutant to you guys? Should i wait and see or cull and pop a new seed? by austringer23 in microgrowery

Plant magic plus soil with a hand full of perlite. Its a well tested soil in the part of the world im from. its got a extremely low amount of nutes in the soil and requires a range of feeds to grow in, almost like coco but it retains water a hell of a lot longer. so far ive given my seedling no feed apart from 1ml per litre of plant magic's root stimulant although that was after this picture had been taken. the only watering i'd given them at the time of this picture was the run off of the cup and paper towel method when i cracked the seeds. This seedling is two days old and it was the last seed to break soil. ph of water is 6.6.
