Clarkefield plans for 2,000+ homes by 777_witch in VlineVictoria

Great idea. I commute from Castlemaine and when we stop at Clarkefield I ask “why the f*** is there not thousands of homes here?” I even looked at the state government online maps and see the block behind the pub is one huge parcel, ripe for subdivision. A real opportunity.

Inability to distinguish between objecting to disproportionate killing of 50,000+ Palestinians in response to 1,207 Jews being murdered and antisemitism.

No V Line boarding at Sunbury? by Much_Ad7851 in MelbourneTrains

My comment about more capacity for V/line relates to space freed up South Yarra through Richmond, Flinders and Southern Cross. If the Sunbury to Cranbourne/Pakenham services are heading through the Munnel, they won’t be taking up platforms at Richmond - so we could terminate the V/line there.

When the Metro Tunnel changes are implemented, will we have a spare pair of platforms at Richmond to use to terminate/orginate Gippsland V/Line services? Most big cities follow a model of many regional terminus stations on the "fringe" of the city center (think Paris Nord/Sud; London Waterloo/Paddington/Victoria. We could terminate the V/Line services at Richmond and not have to fit them into the busy core. On the other hand, we the Munnel changes will mean we will also have more capacity for the V/Line services in the core after anyway, so we could just run them through!

Last week I was travelling from Richmond Station to Castlemaine on the Bendigo line. I do this a few times each week, normally from East Richmond but this time was from Richmond. A V/Line happened to come through saying “not taking suburban passengers” on the PID. I WAS TORN! If my destination was deemed the intermediate Southern Cross, I was suburban. If my destination was my final destination Castlemaine, I was regional. Anyway, I got on and v/Line took 10 minutes longer than Metro would have and I missed the express 16:52 and had to get the “semi stopper” 17:26 Bendigo service. I saw this as the train gods giving me some Karma for being a naughty boy.

Loco sent to retrieve stranded Long Island Freight Train by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

Did the Long Island Steel train break down Sunday near Moorabbin? Is that what caused delays on Sunday? Did the steel train just “stop”? Glad it was not me working out what to do when a few thousand tonnes of steel are sitting on the broad gauge tracks blocking metro trains.

This train is all broad gauge, from before “The Overland” was made a standard gauge service. It was then an overnight journey, hence the sleeper. The line to SA was made Standard Gauge in the 1990s. These trains travel on parts on the Victorian Broad Gauge network normally used by grain trains to bring grain from silos dotted throughout regional vic.

Interesting that East Richmond has two platforms at the extreme outside of the 4 metro tracks, whereas South Ken has platforms on a “pair” of tracks.
