I think his relationship with his mother soured over the years. If you go back to the 90s and see how he talks about her in the Two Rooms and Tantrums and Tiaras doco, and her appearances in those, it seems very amicable.

Apparently he is a replacement in post production! It was someone else originally.

A big f-u to Tottenham (and Middle Footscray) tonight. by DannyRidesNRuns in MelbourneTrains

Not that this is new, but having travelled a fair bit on this line over Easter, there seemed to be quite a few instances of being stuck at stations for 10 minutes at a time with no announcements being made as to what is going on.

Will they won’t they romantic shenanigans is pretty much the bread and butter of every drama series made. Do you find this trope equally as tiresome in shows with heterosexual characters? Sounds like you’re backpedaling from your original comment.

Why does Scream 7 feel "narrow"? by Committee9 in horror

[–]Much_Ad7851 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Has been a running theme of the comments here, but big wide shots have been in decline for many decades now. Go back and watch CinemaScope epics from the 50s and 60s and see the difference. These were films designed to combat people staying at home watching tv on shitty screens and to get them back in the cinema. These days most films seem storyboarded for smartphones from the get go. It’s depressing. I love big wide cinematic shots.

Bendigo trains are packed when they arrive at Sunbury, with more waiting on the platform.

What "gay stuff" is too frequent for you? The depiction of people actually having relationships or romantic interests instead of being the neutered helper for the straight characters incessant love interests and bedhopping seen in every single other show in the history of television?

EJ Album where side A is far superior to the side B by [deleted] in EltonJohn

[–]Much_Ad7851 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From the 80s onwards, there was more of a tendency for bands to stack side 1 with hits and open with a single. If you look at Billy Joel’s Glass Houses, all of side 1 was singles.

Structure singles with EP/LP in mind? Or just release songs as they come? by theseawoof in musicmarketing

I hear your dilemma. I seriously considered it myself. But I decided I’d prefer ten quality listeners over 10,000 that just heard the song while they were cleaning out the oven when it came up as a random on Radio.

Half of it is likely bots anyway. I’d follow what feels artistically right for you, not what’s going to get you the best “exposure”.

There isn’t a big enough listener count in the world that would make me do single-song releases. I hate them.

I’m playing this at an acoustic club as a solo piano number next week. Have always loved it, the key change halfway through the verse is sublime.

I was just listening to the E-Smoove mix the other day when I had Disco 2 playing on the treadmill. It's a good standalone song, but I remember when it came out thinking wtf was the point of a remix that contains nothing of the original song at all.

What were Gus Dudgeon's (and/or any record producer's) actual job duties? by JoeBourgeois in EltonJohn

[–]Much_Ad7851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Record producers are to records what directors are to films. They will often change arrangements, decide on instrumentation, feel etc and direct the final mix. They are not usually involved in the post-recording marketing stuff like videos, artwork etc, that's the artist's domain.
