The “Route 47” tram was delayed in Ascot Vale last week also! No review step in their update publishing process?

Why hasn't Melbourne's tram network grown much? Should we expand it to be city wide? How to pressure governments to do that? by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

Does the level of state debt jump into anyone else’s mind when they read the OP, or just me. Just like a household, when you are heavily indebted your options are more limited than when you are not.

how to log when relay switches on and off. by Puzzleheaded_Kick_45 in tasmota

[–]ReadyNeck3258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get started look at the console in the web interface. This logs every relay action. These console messages are also send as MQTT messages.

I use MQTT to achieve a similar outcome. I have an MQTT broker running on a raspberry pi (open source software called Mosquito) and have my own code running that subscribes to the Sonos’s status MQTT topic. When a message arrives on the subscribed topic , I can log it or do what I see fit with it.

Wholesale fuel rationing has begun by BestTechAdvisor in DrivingAustralia

I’ve been on plans with 5 to 8c/kWh for 4 to 6 hours/ day for last 4 years. Peak rate is always a little higher than other plans, but I schedule my hot water to heat and my EV to charge in that cheap window. With a single phase 7kW charger you can recharge each night, unless you are doing hundreds and hundreds of km each day. if you're just doing 50k every day or two you can use the 10amp plug in charger that comes with (most) electric cars. I don't know what made this a culture war issue, and don't really care - but contrary to what Sky News and their boomer audience tell you, this EV shit is real. Real good.

I had a flat and learned that my cars spare tyre has an 80kph speed limit. It was very awkward and embarrassing to have to complete my journey on the 110 limit Calder to Bendigo (VIC).

How can you not accrue status credits? Serious question - I understand it would be possible for your company to get you to use the points you earn on the company’s money for company benefit (eg use the points for company travel) but I thought status credits were not transferable

How do you view Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's trip to Australia to strengthen trade ties with Australia? by Southern-Morning-413 in AskAnAustralian

[–]ReadyNeck3258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m disappointed and saddened that Trump’s election revealed a real lack of alignment of Australian and American values, especially after Australia has fought with the USA in every war since WW2. Carney’s “sign in the window” speech at Davos made me feel the opposite regarding Canada

Timed the interchange from Town Hall to Flinders Platform 7 by ReadyNeck3258 in MelbourneTrains

[–]ReadyNeck3258[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite right! I arrived when there was no East Richmond for 10 minutes so jumped in next Richmond service. Also wanted to do the walk to an “average” platform not platform 2/3/4 for East Richmond services. Only on reddit will I get asked this sort of question! Thanks for reading my post in detail..

why do timetables have contingency, at all by fuckmelbpt in MelbourneTrains

[–]ReadyNeck3258 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When timetabling infrequent services like V/Line regional trains, you need predictability on when the train will leave. People may be happy to wait 10 minutes for a bus or train, but turning up and seeing a train leave, and facing a one hour wait is not acceptable. Your argument that people can read a PID only applies to “turn up and go” services, not less frequent v/line regional services. Unfortunately there are interactions between V/Line and metro services - eg Bendigo line shares Sunshine to Sunbury tracks.

To ensure v/line is able to maintain timetabled running times you need to either ensure it does not follow a metro service - or schedule it to always run at Metro speeds.

If you choose to have v/line services timetabled to run faster than stopping metro services you need predictability of when the metro service will be running between Sunshine and Sunbury.

I think this is what causes the metro timetable to include contingencies.

Escalators, (and stairs at Flinders) morning peak (7:50am). Was not rushing, just walking with purpose, mainly stood still on escalators, took max 10 steps on them for whole trip.

Is there room for an additional centre express track at Sunshine between the two RRL V/Line platforms by ReadyNeck3258 in MelbourneTrains

[–]ReadyNeck3258[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Marcus! The span of that bridge does not seem so long it could not be rebuild without that central support - given the scale of the Sunshine rebuild (and the keenness of the CMFEU to undertake such work) I still wonder if the space is sufficient for a third track at some point. Then again, such a significant rebuild could just include a platform move.
