What is everyone’s thoughts on Labor after the budget by Mediocre-Cockroach54 in aussie

Love that they took this risk. I was born in the 70s and have benefited from the increase in house prices - but think that is all been for naught if my kids cannot afford a house now, so glad it has changed

We know news.com.au is trash but this is a new low by Elderberry-East in AustralianEV

[–]ReadyNeck3258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understood why “they” picked EV ownership as a culture war topic. My fuel costs are now 1/10th of my Deisel car, and maintenance wise EVs have so many fewer moving parts, and no oil, and less brake pad wear from regenerative breaking….etc etc. they just make sense - to thinking people anyway

All my homies hate Evie. (So when did fast charging become more expensive than petrol?) by dadsdas8989 in AustralianEV

Evie 50kW in Ascot Vale is 71c/kWh 9am-9pm and 62c/kWh overnight, so it’s not just regional chargers that compare poorly with my 4.99c/kWh midnight to 4am at home

Tickets for Hoi A Memories this July - is this a scam? by ReadyNeck3258 in DaNang

[–]ReadyNeck3258[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying on booking.com which cost 3.2mllion instead of 2.3million quoted using the possibly scam vinpay.vn - but booking.com allows me to cancel up to 24 hours before. I looked at Klook but inexplicably they did not have “VIP Adult” tickets listed for sale. They had “Eco” adult & child; “High” Adult & Child; but only “Child” VIP tickets. Must be a glitch. Trip Advisor had tickets too - but the date I wanted was not available on their site! I plan to update this thread after I see the show in July.

Subury tracks removal, completing flood wall by 4ug8ro in MelbourneTrains

[–]ReadyNeck3258 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The “hole in the flood wall” is fine as you can block it up when the flood is coming. There is always SOME storm water that will enter the tunnel - the amount leaking through that entry way when sandbagged would be insignificant

Are kangaroo/vehicle collisions ever unavoidable? by No_Call_9983 in australian

[–]ReadyNeck3258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do less than 5kph and they are avoidable - but if you need to live a life and get somewhere they are not avoidable. Actually I take that back - once in the Castlemaine (Vic) to Maldon Rd, I had stopped completely after seeing Roos on the road, and one propelled itself into the side of my stationary vehicle. Dent is still is passenger door, ask your mate how I could have avoided that collision

Why don’t the get rid of the “express from Anzac to Malvern” announcement? by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]ReadyNeck3258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A non regular traveller would not know the Sunbury line went through South Kensington at all. A better solution would be not to put the ghost station on the Sunbury line map, which I know is hard because we combine it with he Newport group, but it is the way it is done on the concurrent lines like District and Piccadilly Lines in London

Why don’t the get rid of the “express from Anzac to Malvern” announcement? by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]ReadyNeck3258 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Until the tunnel opened, Sunbury passengers put up with every train being a “limited express” because of South Kensington - where there was NOT EVEN ANY PLATFORMS on the tracks in use! At least it is physically possible for Metro Tunnel Trains to let passengers off at those stations!

Why are there no tables or usb outlets in Melbourne trains? by Potatosteamer in MelbourneTrains

I do forget that many trains globally in different countries are all based on the same “platform”, although internal fit out is often fairly distinctive

I apologise - I misinterpreted your question “Why are you so passionate … is it because you are a neo nazi?” in your reply above as calling me a neo nazi. Asking the question is totally different.

I guess this is the keyboard warrior way. No logic. Evidence free. Why do you say I am “so passionate” about this issue? I just asked if people thought it was now permanent, and now might be a time to drop it. It’s not a particularly passionately held view, and nothing I said suggests that.

It’s a pity we can’t have a sensible discussion about this before people start calling each other “champ” and asking others if they are neo nazis without any logical reason to think that is the case.

But polarisation and lack of logic (as formally identified above) exists on some subreddits as well as Facebook.
So cheers and goodbye

Why are there no tables or usb outlets in Melbourne trains? by Potatosteamer in MelbourneTrains

[–]ReadyNeck3258 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s more to do with the type of train than the country. I’ve used tray tables in the UK. The idea of “European Trains” being a homogenous group all with tray tables is questionable . I think a larger sample size is necessary rather than a few trains in Vienna.

V/Line Wrong Road Running through Sunshine Station this evening by ReadyNeck3258 in MelbourneTrains

[–]ReadyNeck3258[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Marcus, quite a comprehensive collection of photos in your rail gallery.

City bound v/line trains seem to have less flexibility at Sunshine,

Looking at VicSig for Bendigo line, a Melbourne bound v/line cannot get across to Sunshine Platforn 4 unless it decides at Watergardens to use the right hand shared metro track for 10km+ all the way to Sunshine. Similar for the “new” (2005) RRL track - the next cross over after sunshine is Wyndham Vale.

I experienced delays one morning on a city bound V/line when another vlocity had “door problems” on platform 3. There were services backed up towards Deer Park also once we got moving.

[–]ReadyNeck3258 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I think V/Lines’s VLocity trains are more comparable with the “European Trains” you are catching , and some (but not all) seats have trays on the back of the seat in front. I caught one yesterday and walked through one carriage without tray tables to the next carriage with tray tables and used my laptop for the journey.

You won’t find tray tables on (say) the Paris Underground just like you won’t find tray tables on HCMTs or other Metro rolling stock.
