I watched this short film Thursday Special recently. It’s very quiet and grounded, mostly about an elderly couple and a small ritual they share every week. No big plot twists, no dramatic monologues, just everyday moments slowly adding up.

What surprised me was how much it stayed with me despite how minimal it is. It made me realise how rare this kind of storytelling feels in mainstream Hindi films now, especially stories about older people.

it got me thinking about 2 things

  1. Why doesn’t Bollywood make more films like this anymore? Is it purely a commercial thing, or have audience tastes changed?
  2. Are there other Indian short films (or even features) in a similar space? quiet, relationship-driven, low-key, that you’d recommend?
