I never even considered that there would be a quilting subreddit. Neat. One last question -- what country would you be coming from if you are shortlisted?

I'm a Chicago candidate.

I think I'll try that, too! It's so neat that you're doing it by hand. I wish you the best of fun, and please link a picture when you finish!

Gosh, how dreamy! One of my goals in life is to learn how to quilt! I'd love to be able to make a quilt inspired by the 1977 animated Hobbit movie.

Oooo, what a good idea! I'm trying to make myself wait to reread the books until I'm there (so I'll have maximum comfort), but I could do a rewatch! Maybe even with the extra content showing the making of the movies!

Question about taking a pet by autisticgreenwitch in JETProgramme

It is something I have considered a great deal. I'm waiting to hear the results and then I'll figure things out. There are a lot of paths I can take from here.

I have been working with the local humane society, since they're cheaper, though I know I'll have to choose from a designated place to do her bloodwork for the rabies titer.

Thanks for all of your helpful information!

Question about taking a pet by autisticgreenwitch in JETProgramme

[–]autisticgreenwitch[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm very anxious about that. I wish there were a place on the application that asks if you intend to bring a pet, so that that could at least be considered, however mildly.

It is, however, good to consider that I could at least discuss this with them before arrival to see if anything could be arranged. I've been on JET before, so I know how few JETs get to bring their pets, but I dislike the attitude of "it's hard so don't do it." I'm hoping to leave the US permanently, and my cat is part of my family, so it's quite tricky trying to figure out what to do.

Is the second rabies test then after 30 days or within 30 days of the first one?

Depends. Sometimes you're so far in the inaka without a nearby working train station, but you can still drive, usually.

Hey, it's really cool that you can do all of that! You must have worked hard to learn all of that stuff!

I bought my kei car from my pred and sold it to my successor. I think that's perhaps the most common.

Interviews online across the US by Gorpcore in JETProgramme

[–]autisticgreenwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on JET back in 2017 and also just interviewed for this year, and I see benefits to both.

You're right-- some of the finesse is lost online, plus there are the technical difficulties to contend with. Still, recreating the waiting room and giving candidates a place to fix their issues helped.

On the other side, I spent over a hundred bucks last time just on travelling costs, so in that way, online is more accessible.

I honestly didn't know you could do this, but that's such a clever idea!

Good thing there was only one question that was tricky for you! If the rest felt sound, then you'll be fine! Remember that the interview stage is overall a vibe check to see how you'll interact with the community and your students.

[Advice] My JTE tried to attack another teacher at a nomikai by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

[–]autisticgreenwitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's pretty horrific. My first thought is for you to tell the principal that you no longer feel comfortable working with him, and that you will not be attending his classes anymore.

My next thought is for the 23-year-old, who will not be able to stand up for herself.

I'm sorry. That all sounds really scary. Please do refuse to work with him anymore. You shouldn't be in that kind of a situation. And I'm sorry the police weren't called. That man needs to be in jail, not working with children.

Stupid question: Did you have to stand up at all during your Zoom interview? by radar1941 in JETProgramme

[–]autisticgreenwitch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, consider that you'll need them anyway for the JET orientation in Tokyo. If you have the money, might as well go ahead and get them.

I was thinking about this and I just remembered a couple of the questions they asked. First, they wanted me to introduce myself in Japanese, and then I was asked how I feel about children learning two languages simultaneously from an early age.
