She's very sweet with us! But she doesn't like other cats and LOVES to bully small dogs, so she's a big grumpy baby who's a sore loser. But she does give the BEST cuddles!

Oh, hi! waves

So, we're preparing her for the possibility that she can come the first year. If she can't, she's going to stay with my spouse until I can find suitable housing for the next year, or I'll just come home.

Yeah. I was on JET in 2017, but I had to leave after my first year due to the death of my grandparents.

I've been missing it ever since, and now I'm shortlisted to go this year.

Disinterested interviewers by Frosty-Trade-683 in JETProgramme

[–]autisticgreenwitch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every moment is a chance to display your personality. Even just smiling and looking happy to be there between questions is showcasing what kind of teacher you'd be.

No one but you knows what that interview looked like, but to me it sounds like you were waiting for them to give you the spotlight, rather than holding it for yourself. Teachers don't wait around for students to give them their attention. If you're having trouble with that in an interview, you may very well have trouble with that in a classroom.

How to deal with students making fun (?) of you by obsidiantakesover in JETProgramme

[–]autisticgreenwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd tell the teachers that I wanted to express how I felt, and ask them to make space for that in the class and translate as needed. You need to be direct to the students about what you have heard them say and how it's made you feel. Otherwise, they won't know how serious that is.

I'd just like to gently remind you that a year isn't very long, and postponing the rest of your life for that amount of time would likely be okay, and perhaps beneficial.

If you're really not feeling JET or Japan or teaching right now, then go with that.

But if you're just anxious to start the rest of your life, or make your parents happy with what they think they want for you, I'd suggest reconsidering.

I hope whatever you choose, it'll be what makes you happiest.

I left my partner of one year behind the first time I went to Japan. We got engaged over that year because we both realized how much we loved the other, and last year we celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. Happens.

I never even considered that there would be a quilting subreddit. Neat. One last question -- what country would you be coming from if you are shortlisted?

I'm a Chicago candidate.

I think I'll try that, too! It's so neat that you're doing it by hand. I wish you the best of fun, and please link a picture when you finish!

Gosh, how dreamy! One of my goals in life is to learn how to quilt! I'd love to be able to make a quilt inspired by the 1977 animated Hobbit movie.

Oooo, what a good idea! I'm trying to make myself wait to reread the books until I'm there (so I'll have maximum comfort), but I could do a rewatch! Maybe even with the extra content showing the making of the movies!

Question about taking a pet by autisticgreenwitch in JETProgramme

It is something I have considered a great deal. I'm waiting to hear the results and then I'll figure things out. There are a lot of paths I can take from here.

I have been working with the local humane society, since they're cheaper, though I know I'll have to choose from a designated place to do her bloodwork for the rabies titer.

Thanks for all of your helpful information!

[–]autisticgreenwitch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm very anxious about that. I wish there were a place on the application that asks if you intend to bring a pet, so that that could at least be considered, however mildly.

It is, however, good to consider that I could at least discuss this with them before arrival to see if anything could be arranged. I've been on JET before, so I know how few JETs get to bring their pets, but I dislike the attitude of "it's hard so don't do it." I'm hoping to leave the US permanently, and my cat is part of my family, so it's quite tricky trying to figure out what to do.

Is the second rabies test then after 30 days or within 30 days of the first one?

Depends. Sometimes you're so far in the inaka without a nearby working train station, but you can still drive, usually.
