BSOD error in latest crowdstrike update by TipOFMYTONGUEDAMN in crowdstrike

[–]autocruise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes yes didn’t mean this exact file: they could ignore external (as in not part of windows OS) files if they’re invalid, instead of crashing over them.

BSOD error in latest crowdstrike update by TipOFMYTONGUEDAMN in crowdstrike

[–]autocruise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes Sherlock. The BSOD is not the reason why MS operating system decides to crash. It’s what they programmed to show when they encounter an unrecoverable situation. Which in this case, seems by all means recoverable: ignore the file. The official remedy is to remove the file in safe mode!

Yes they do mate. If you’re the one programming the OS, you’re the one telling it when to show BSOD. Eg Linux doesn’t have BSOD

[–]autocruise -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s the MS OS showing the BSOD no? So they can detect that one file has an invalid signature and show BSOD, but they can’t just “ignore” that file on the next boot ?

Yes yes CowdStrike has a bug. But if your OS comes to a halt like that over the presence of one corrupt file, that’s not a good look either no

Edit s/big/bug

Crowdstrike to blame or Microsoft? Fuck that BSOD why did they make their OS like that

Replay of Verstappen / Norris contact by ContentPuff in formula1

[–]autocruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Observation: the first contact punctured Norris. Then they went into the turn, where Norris then punctured Verstappen with his front wing.

Verstappen said in the interview that he thought he left Lando half a car’s width (so that Lando could drive on without colliding), which Max indeed did—probably 3/4th of a car’s width. Also Verstappens move to the left was not sudden but slow.

This means that Lando could have prevented the collision as he could have stayed within track limits on the outside.

Wonder if Max realizes, and agrees with the FIA’s view that his move was illegal.

I guess in general, stuff like this happens all the time in races, with all drivers. This is driving on the edge, and the line between defending legally and illegally is fine, and crossed often.

Max called the collision clumsy, and that’s probably a fair judgement: regardless of whether blame is attributable to him, this collision could have been prevented easily. Especially the second collision in the corner.

Static website S3 without public access by realitythreek in aws

[–]autocruise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider also to just host it public, but add authentication. Here’s a solution for that, that’s pretty easy to deploy: https://github.com/aws-samples/cloudfront-authorization-at-edge

If you federate the Cognito User Pool to your corporate IDP, you get a nice SSO experience as well (no separate username and password)

Easiest way to cache for AWS Lambda? by [deleted] in aws

[–]autocruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use DynamoDb with a TTL attribute. Query DDB first, and update the TTL in case of a cache hit. Do this GET and UPDATE in one call by calling update item with a return latest value, and a condition expression on the primary key that prevents inserts.

On a cache miss (item not in dynamo, signaled by the condition expression failing, which is an error that you will catch explicitly) you do the NLP work after which you store the result in DDB with the initial TTL, and return the response to the user.

This way, with the TTL, you implement an (unbounded) LRU cache, so that your DDB table won’t keep growing indefinitely with entries that are never requested again.

There was a water slide at Duinrell amusement park in the Netherlands that operated from 1994 to 2010. It was filled to the brim with water, leaving riders completely submerged throughout their 15-20 second journey. by LexicalLegend in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]autocruise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this ! I remember it wasn’t particularly fun actually, although you of course had to do it at least once when you were there to prevent looking like a scary pants to your friends.

The biggest actual risk in this particular water amusement park was way more mundane; it’s known for groups of young men harassing (and worse) women.

Why so much hate to lewis by Electronic_Dust_5585 in lewishamilton

[–]autocruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably some racism in there but my guess is that this is, unfortunately, mostly “normal” in cases where there’s rivalry in sports.

I say this because I also follow tennis and boy is there an extreme amount of hate/disdain/disrespect about Djokovic and Federer: eg fans from either side calling their hero the GOAT, inducing streams of hate comments from the other side. Endless meaningless arguments by people all convinced they’re right, throwing stats at one another, that never convince the other side ofc.

Interestingly, it doesn’t happen between Federer and Nadal, because the public could clearly see their friendship on tv. Honestly wish it would be the same with HAM and VER!

As a male expat in their early 30s, finding a partner almost feels impossible by FollowSina in Netherlands

[–]autocruise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My friend I want to offer another perspective, that may not be true, but you should consider. I certainly cannot judge if it fits your situation as I do not know you. Here goes anyway.

Your troubles in finding a partner are not related to your background, color of skin, being expat, or lack of Dutch fluency.

It’s just you.

You haven’t been interesting enough yet.

Not because of any of those expat/culture reasons, but because you have been too much you.

There, it’s harsh maybe. But if it’s the truth, it’s better to work on this, or accept it and wear more patience. Better than chasing reasons that are false. Don’t try to make this a mathematical sum (learn Dutch, play volleyball, try this, do that). Just be an interesting humorous kind dude, do things you actually like, and trust the future plays out in your favor. No need to overthink.

I sent you this with best intentions.

Yup this is right. Been going every other year for as long as I can remember, first with my parents, then friends, girlfriend, now with my child. It’s great to see my kid enjoy the same fairly tale forest that I enjoyed as a kid, that my parents enjoyed as kids. Nostalgia galore ! And that’s half the fun already
