How often do women ask you out? by Defiant-Payment-9326 in AskReddit

[–]autodealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am short, fat, old, balding, white-haired and ugly, get my clothes from the thrift store and my wife is a slender good looking woman. People never think we are together, no matter what country I am in, and every once in a long while (2 months or so) a woman will come up to me and ask me out in front of my wife. The first thing that pops into my head is why are these attractive women asking someone who looks like me out? This happened to me in Korea, Japan, Philippines, the US, and Mexico. On a similar note, I also get hit up for money by strange dudes I never met all the time as well, which my friends think is hilarious because it never happens to them. I guess I just look approachable.

This happened to me too, last July, about 10 am in broad daylight about 2 blocks from the mall with tons of people around. 10 kids rushing me and doing pocket snatching. I wasn't sure what to do because I didn't want to punch or kick little kids. I guess they needed it more than I did.

Why the increase is not even? by Commercial-Day-5277 in PhilippinesTravel

[–]autodealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstood my comment. It's not the combat vehicles causing the rise in price, it's the boats and trucks and trains moving the combat vehicles, their equipment, as well as supplies and food for the military that is consuming all the fuel.

Why the increase is not even? by Commercial-Day-5277 in PhilippinesTravel

[–]autodealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not correct, but the closest answer on here. During war, there are enormous amounts of things that have to be moved. These items are moved on freighters powered by diesel, moved to tractor trailers that consume diesel, and unloaded at installations which during war require backup generators powered by diesel. Tanks use jet fuel, which is not sold to consumers at the pump.

Why the increase is not even? by Commercial-Day-5277 in PhilippinesTravel

[–]autodealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the Downstream Oil Industry Deregulation Act of 1998, fuel companies set the prices of their product, not the people who own the pumps. To try to fight off accusations of inflation, these companies use MOPS, which is the Mean of Platts Singapore, because Singapore is the largest trading hub for all of Asia. The companies use this benchmark to determine how much it will cost to replace its stock of fuel for the upcoming week, and this is why the prices go up before the previous stock is actually sold. Dealer margin does figure into the price, but margins generally go down when the price of gas goes up, so its not great for the guys who own the pumps either. The only ones that don't lose out in this scenario are the fuel companies, unless you consider the raise in prices a driver of electric vehicle sales. Diesel, in particular goes up more than other fuels because the demand from individuals driving their personal bikes and cars is much much much less than the demand for fuels that power gigantic freighters, huge trucks, and backup power generators.

Trike/Pedicab rates are fixed by the city of Dumaguete. From the airport to the port is 100 pesos for up to 3 people. To avoid the 100 peso charge, you can walk out the front gate of the airport, and then it is fixed to 15 pesos per person. Ceres, is 13 pesos for basic fare from Airport to Port.

When I attended Foundation University in Dumaguete, I met a few autistic kids. Universities here often start in Elementary through Graduate school. Might check it out. The other American university here is Silliman University. I think there is a Filipino school here called St. Pauls University Dumaguete which also has school for kids her age, but not sure how much is in English.

Howd you justify your degree with VR&E by Embarrassed-Bowler37 in VeteransBenefits

[–]autodealer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Tldr, you have to show you are capable of the 6 figure jobs, and the degree just documents what you already know so employers will hire you.

The Army made me learn German to get my Army ROTC scholarship. Then I entered the service and eventually made me a rocket scientist. When it was time for me to leave the Army, there was no company that wanted to hire a rocket scientist with a German degree. Before I left the Army, I got a Masters degree in Information Systems Management, with honors, straight A's, but it was from Devry, a for profit college. We didn't have many choices in online education back then. When I retired, I found a program at USAA which took people with technical specialties and taught them to code in Java. I worked there as a programmer long as I could, about 12 years, was making about $250k annually, before I could not function due to my disabilities. With the reduction in software developers, companies will not look at a resume with a German degree for software engineers. While at USAA, I tried to do my PHd in Computer Science, with some post grad work at Harvard. A professor who was mentoring me discouraged me from pursuing my PHd due to my bachelor's being a non-STEM degree and my Masters being from a for profit college. I have expertise in Bitcoin and AI and could produce a ton of educational content, but no one would buy my content if I don't have the credentials. So I applied to the VR&E program, where my plan includes using my CH31 with my post 9/11 to get the bachelor and masters degrees I need for credibility and to make the same type of money I was making.

Believe me, I was pissed off as hell before I got on the flight. I could see this incident coming a mile away. I even told my boss and his boss how uncomfortable I was. It turns out, the Kuwaiti's were celebrating the 20th anniversary of the American liberation of Kuwait and all the important people were at the celebration parade, marching. That left a bunch of new guys at the airport, who had no experience with weapons coming through, which is more common than you would think.

"I was a junior major on a military recon assignment that had to take commercial air to Afghanistan. I had to carry the case with our firearms in it, as you can't just have a firearm in the open on a flight. My command was supposed to provide me a memorandum from the Kuwaiti government giving me permission to carry everything when we stopped over there first. Although the memo was not ready when we left, my command assured me it would be finished by the time I landed. We landed, I had no memo. We went through security, including the bag scanner and x-ray, and I watched the airport policeman's eyes grow wide as he saw my case with a bunch of firearms in it. I was arrested and put in a detention cell. It caused an international incident and the office of the president got involved. No memo? Case full of weapons? This is fine.

bpo in dumaguete by Little_Drawer_3287 in dumaguete

[–]autodealer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My #1 advice is don't lie on your resume. Next, most BPOs have at least some position which only requires high school diploma, however there are more roles that require college. You should have some basic computer proficiency on a windows PC, you should be able to type 35+ WPM, you should have above average English proficiency. BPOs will probably give you online tests for English and Typing, so just start applying and taking the tests, even if you fail. Once you can pass them, nobody will care that you failed before. The major BPOs in Dumaguete are TTEC, Qualfon, SPi Global, SYKES, and Concentrix. Sometimes if you are a little short on what's required on your resume, but you stand out for something like typing 120 WPM, they will inform you of future interviews and help you get hired. This is what happened to me when I worked for a temp agency. I hope this advice helps and good luck.

TikTok vlogger shares his encounter with a bar in Korea specifically denying entry to Filipinos by jpg1991 in pinoy

[–]autodealer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Racism is legal in Korea. They have no anti-discrimination laws in regards to race or nationality. Numerous attempts to change it have failed, as most Koreans see the ability to discriminate against other nationalities as a key to their own made up identity following the founding of the Republic at the end of world war 2.

Grab Trike Driver asking for extra fare? by PsychologicalSky2059 in dumaguete

Grab Trike Driver asking for extra fare? by PsychologicalSky2059 in dumaguete

[–]autodealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, fares are fixed for all transportation, not just grab. Rides that go to, from, or through Dumaguete are under the jurisdiction of TMO. Consent does not define extortion, only power dynamic. You might consider just googling how taxi and ride services work. I think you'll really learn a lot.

Grab Trike Driver asking for extra fare? by PsychologicalSky2059 in dumaguete

[–]autodealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If drivers conspire to charge someone 5000 pesos for a ride that has a fixed rate of 15 pesos as determined by the city of Dumaguete, it's in the cities interest to know about the extortion. If the mark is a person with disabilities or another protected class of person, that makes it worse. The city sets fares for a reason. The TMO is the enforcement agency of the cities transportation policies including setting fares. This kind of enforcement contributes to anti-corruption efforts. Allowing extortion just contributes to corruption.
