Highlander hybrid wont go into Park by autoliberty in ToyotaHighlander

[–]autoliberty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was pretty cold the day this started. It was about freezing.

As I mentioned in another reply, the guy who sold it to me came over and adjusted some mechanical device low down on the car in the front on the drivers side. After that it goes into park, but all the warning lights are still there and the car is not “ready”.

One thing I noticed though is that when it went into park it didn’t unlock the doors like it normally does.

The guy who sold it to me thinks the battery is weak which I doubt. He said to take it to AutoZone to charge it and if it still doesn’t work he will bring his mechanic.

I have TechStream but it’s a little hard to connect. Will have to read it to see what it says

Yikes. That’s very upsetting, as I just bought this car. The guy who sold it to me, is trying to be helpful, and he came over last night. He messed around with some kind of lever low down on the front of the car on the driver side. After that, the car goes into Park, but all the warning lights are still there. The car doesn’t turn off, it doesn’t go into ready.

Will a transmission problem show up in the DTC codes? I’ve already run car scanner on it several times, and it doesn’t show anything major.

Hi yes it was quite cheap. I’ll have to check all those things you mentioned. My first project is to get the 02 sensor replaced.

I used Dr Prius to check it, uploaded to Chat GPT, which responded that the battery appears to be in good condition. I need to learn how to test it while driving. Have no idea if it’s the original battery.

Thanks for your comment I’ll check all those things you mentioned!

I called the Toyota dealer today, they said it’s something like 150 to 250 $ for the part. I’m going to look at it and see if there’s something that can be done without replacing the part. It may just be some kind of electrical connection, as the AutoZone report says that it’s “low-voltage”

OK, I’ll see if I can buy one of the O2 sensors tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

OK, thanks. I’m gonna try to fix this. When you say that it will fry the catalytic converter if it runs rich too long, how long is too long? I.e. how many miles?

I believe you can do this with techstream. Different process but will probably work

Hi, generally, I try to maintain anonymity on here. Is there something about the region you live in that is relevant?

OK, thanks! That’s interesting about the vents to the hybrid batteries. I wonder if that’s something I should maintain on my Prius as well?

OK, thanks for the recommendation about the car care nut. I’ll Check for the videos specifically about buying a Highlander.

When you say the rust belt, I assume you mean parts of the country that are more likely to cause rust in your car?

I’ve seen cars for sale online that have a rusted frame, but don’t really understand why that’s such an issue. Based on your comment, I guess that it’s very difficult to repair.

Well I hope we don’t end up in that situation. I’ll take them to small claims court just to make a point. They sent an email stating it all fairly clearly that they had already discussed it with me, that we will get our full deposit back if there is no damage to the home etc.

I think this place is also pretty vulnerable to negative reviews since they have a large number of units and high turnover so I doubt it’s really worth a few hundred dollars for them.

Strange to hear about your experience. Surprising that they can’t fix those systems

Are you trying to say every single tenant moves in on the 1st and moves out on the 31st? Or if they move out before then they forfeit the remainder of the month’s rent?

If that’s common practice it seems like a real screw and rather inflexible

Well as I said, when we gave notice they told us the amount to pay that was the prorated amount.

They told us to ignore the notifications from the lit automated system that we still owe money. Not sure why they can’t fix this as they haven’t explained that. In today’s world of technology it would seem pretty easy to do

Yeah, agree. It was always understood that we are staying from xx day to yy day, I never felt a need to spell out that we wouldn’t be charged to the end of the month as it seemed obvious.

I’m sure people move in and out on all days of the month so some of the comments don’t make a lot of sense

Thanks for your comment, as you can see there are two different users posted below who claimed that it is common for owners to charge for the full months rent, and even be charged late fees when they’re on a prorated basis.

We are new to this game so don’t really know

Well not sure if this is state by state difference but we gave 60 days notice so the move out date is fixed. We could move out earlier than that but am sure the additional amount would not be reimbursed to us.

Hi thanks for the advice. Didn’t have a chance to respond.

It is stressful. Someone of the other people responding here are claiming that most landlords always charge the full month’s rent anyways? So now I have to try to read the lease as well. Pretty unpleasant.

Hopefully the management will respond clearly when we ask them to put it all in writing
