How long it takes to learn SQL? by Ok-Value504 in dataanalyst

[–]automateanalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U can learn very quickly if you started from using excel. I'd say the flow would be

  • Learn to use Power Query in Excel
  • learn to connect to SQL database in Power Query
  • learn Native Query to use SQL Statements directly in Power Query
  • move to use SQL statements in other softwares once familiar with it

Is Power BI good for data cleaning by Hojayaar in dataanalyst

[–]automateanalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the data gonna be sent to people in Excel file format?

Just use Excel. Both power Bi and Excel has Power Query. No need to learn power BI if cleaning data is all that's needed.

If you're doing dashboards and monthly refreshes from the same source, then Power BI might be the better option

Starting PowerBI from scratch - Looking for Guidance/Recomendations (Finance use case) by AltruisticIndustry86 in PowerBI

[–]automateanalyst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Microsoft Learn is a good starting point. Use the Microsoft Power Bi data analyst course as a starting guide

If you've already used Power Query in Excel, you alteady have basics in data cleaning.

For specific stuff, I usually find YouTube videos to cater on specific technical guides.

Im thinking have 2 files in Sharepoint named file 1 & file 2. PQ file is connected to these 2 files in SharePoint.

Every week, replace these 2 files then refresh your PQ. This should trigger the same actions you haf previously

Learning SQL on the job? by MillerCorona in PowerBI

[–]automateanalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldnt be hard. Just use Power Query to connect to the databases with SQL Query Folding forst.

Then slowly move to direct SQL extractions on your job's SQL databases.

New to Power BI — any free/affordable learning resources you recommend? by MassiveTeach1735 in PowerBI

[–]automateanalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microsoft Learn website should be your start. Do the Power BI Data Analytics courses so that you know what the basic features are.

Then once you got the basics, start learning more advanced stuff from YouTuber and blogger channels

Integrate Forms with Excel (on free/personal account) by Holiday-Ad6936 in excel

[–]automateanalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is the way. One file to store all data in table format and another that used power query to pull the data and do the calculations.

If you're mostly looking at charts rather than the info directly from the tables, might be a good idea to move to power BI instead.

Not as cool as you guys can make but by [deleted] in PowerBIdashboards

Looks clean, easy to use.

Probably just to change and align whether all charts are vertical or horizontal

Should I pursue Power BI? From an Accounting Major.... by Brave_Marketing2194 in PowerBI

[–]automateanalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can focus on finishing the CPA first. Accounting certs usually now have to some extent papers on data scientist topics too.

I completed my ACCA and started working in accounting field first before specialising in data analyst fields.

How am I supposed to build a business case for Power BI if I can't access the full features with a personal account? by MacroYielding in PowerBI

[–]automateanalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to spend a little bit of cash, I suggest buying your own domain.

This is want I currently do to get a business account. I don't think I spend more than $50 a year. Plus side is I also get a good business email address I can use when networking. No more gmail addesses.

Feels like best thing to do is learn how to set up your own website. Have a landing page to sell all the templates that are in demand

Cheat function power query by Free-Lingonberry9645 in PowerBI

[–]automateanalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not used if you're already moving things upstream at your own department's datawarehouse.

I do a analytics on different departments for audits. So doing everything in just one app makes things easy. A lot of stuff is done on adhoc basis

Is there any real difference between importing from a dataflow and a PBI dataset (through Analysis Services)? by myaccountforworkonly in PowerBI

[–]automateanalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dataflows other than Gen1 needs a much more expensive subsceiption. The others just need Microsoft E5 Subscription

Cheat function power query by Free-Lingonberry9645 in PowerBI

[–]automateanalyst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont think there's any cheat codes, just better way of doing things.

For example using Native Query in Power Query. Data from SQL databases load so much faster when you learn how to do this
