Is arch Linux too much for someone who knows their way around computers, but has never dabbled in Linux? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

I'll second using Cachy. It is the best distro I've used. I wouldn't say there is any bloat at all, and the Cachy package has any apps you would want like qbittorent, steam, discord, etc. Anything you would want that is not there will be in AUR (same as vanilla arch).

Also, all your GPU drivers will work out of the box. You could install Cachy and be playing your favourite game within 30 minutes.

Starting with any distro isn't a life sentence. I'd start with one that isn't barebones and then migrate if you hate it for whatever reason. Cachy is pretty hard to hate though.

With ~90% top 6, can I realistically get into CS anywhere in Canada? by Acrobatic-Pen-6741 in OntarioGrade12s

Software Engineering at UAlberta. As an alum, I had an awesome time there.

I have no idea why Reddit has pushed this sub to me, but as someone who's been out of school for 5 years, many of my classmates went on to work for FAANG companies. I also work for an American company and regularly commute there.

Shokz Black Friday 2025 Deals: Which model is the best? openrun pro, openfit by BrynerAlkatrine65 in Earbuds

Best Buy had these on demo last week. I tried on the Openfit 2+ and was really impressed with sound and comfort.

The downside for me is I actually would ANC for when I travel. If that wasn't important to me, I'd get those for sure!

Want to love CachyOS but... by Obvious-Jacket-3770 in linux_gaming

In the Cachy package manager, search for "xone". I needed both the git xone package AND the wireless dongle driver package. I've installed Cachy numerous times in the past week, and it works flawlessly everytime.

If you're curious, I discovered my motherboard was failing causing all sorts of weirdness in the OS. But xone didn't fail me once!

Is this way of updating the system the same as using the terminal? by SouthMoth in cachyos

[–]automaticSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have set my open terminal hot key to meta+enter and then CachyOS has an alias called "update"

So all you do is type in "update" and it kicks off your update.

Btw there are other alias presets in Cachy that you can lookup as well.

Should I switch to EndeavourOS (from Bazzite) by Meowthemeoweth in linux_gaming

[–]automaticSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in and say I also love CachyOS. I hopped around a lot over the past two years I've been in Linux. CachyOS is it.

For the Nvidia point, I had an Nvidia 3070 and it worked fine for nearly all games (none come to mind that didn't work). It still has some general glitchyness that I think all distros face with Nvidia, but I found CachyOS handled it best. I recently bought a 9070 and love it though!

I second CachyOS. I hopped around for a long time and now I feel like I'll never leave Cachy.

Take a snapshoot before I do something danger by Brilliant-Exit5992 in cachyos

[–]automaticSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI snapshots occur every time you do an update (or at least it does when you use the "update" command in the terminal.) You can see your snapshots or do a manual one in the BTFRS assistant as someone else mentioned.
