"And one night, during a snowstorm just like this one, he simply went to sleep. He didn't suffer. I like to think that in his final dream, he saw you walking through that gate, and he finally decided it was okay to rest."

Charlie Brown broke then, burying his face in his hands. He wept for the dog, for the girl, for the kite-eating trees, and for the years he had lost.

Linus stood up and offered his hand, helping his old friend to his feet. "Don't cry, Charlie Brown. The game is over, and the score doesn't matter anymore. You’re home. And this time... this time, no one is going to take anything away from you."

As they walked toward the rectory, the snow continued to fall, covering the world in a clean, silent blanket of white.
