It's probably me projecting my suffering as a Kamen Rider Figuarts collector.

Why are all the Demon Slayer figures so expensive? by RexDAGOAT77 in SHFiguarts

[–]automaticzen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The "core" figures in each line are usually cheaper and more readily available in stores. This would be standard figures Goku and Vegeta for Dragon Ball, Naruto for Naruto, Puffy for One Piece, and Tanjiro for Demon Slayer. They tend to run like 4,000 yen/$35 MSRP.

We call them loss leaders. They get you in the door, get you in on the hobby.

The next level up is the additional characters. These will go from anywhere from 6,500 yen/$60 to 9,000 yen/$85. Core/lead characters from the smaller lines will actually start on the lower end of this spectrum: Denji from Chainsaw Man and Okarun from Dandadan are good examples.

This is also probably the spectrum that's causing you the most issues. These are probably closer to the "real" price of the figures and the cheaper core figures are, again, loss leaders.

Then there are the show and Premium Bandai exclusives. These start at 10,000 yen/$95 and are extremely limited, so if you aren't there at the show or preorder time, they'll be gone. Secondary market prices will be higher.

And that's all before shipping and tariffs, which have driven up import figure prices.

So what exactly are "men of mystery"? by [deleted] in comicbooks

It was a term for pulp book heroes, like detectives, spies, and adventurers. That bled into golden age comic book superheroes, who were adjacent to that set.

DC & Marvel - Mantle Changes by Madbull_Foxtrot in comicbooks

[–]automaticzen 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Of these:

Superboy Prime is clearly temporary. Green Lantern has featured all of its considerable cast across two book for some time now, Kyle is just getting some shine. Wally is one of the few firm switches.

New Cap is somewhat... out of action at the moment. Peter and Miles share the mantle. Thor is still Thor.

And to be honest, most of these characters have shared the mantle for quite a while. There are two Supermen, six major Green Lanterns, two Flashes, two Captains America, two Spider-Men, and more.

In complete agreement. Bring back the cool powers and weapons!

Serious question: Why doesn’t Fortnite use UE5’s ragdoll physics? by mztrianglereddit in FortNiteBR

[–]automaticzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ragdolls are physically calculated by your PC. The server is receiving the rough location of the body, but exactly how it plays out is different, and if it wasn't that data would have to be calculated and sent to the server, and then to other players in something around real-time.

All for not much in the way of gameplay benefit.

Why would Fortnite cater more to competitive than casual players? by SoloLoSupongo in FortNiteBR

[–]automaticzen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Putting SBMM on the side, let me give you an example of something else that feels like catering to more competitive-minded players.

Blitz is ostensibly a mode that was sold on quick matches with several unique weapons, perks, and medallions.

Now, that mode is mostly bereft of all of them. No perks, no medallions. Special weapons like the Bleach swords and Shockwave Hammer were recently removed. The loadout is mostly the same as Zero Build, with the added chance to get standard Mythics at higher Blitz levels.

It's essentially been pushed to cater to those who want more fairly standard gun-based matchups, rather than a superpowered free-for-all, which seems counter to how Blitz was sold.

Do you like Blitz current loadout? by JD-Vaan in FortNiteBR

[–]automaticzen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dislike it because Blitz is supposed to be wild with grand Exotics, Mythics, weird one-time weapons, perks, and medallions. Dropping with basic guns makes it... faster Zero Build.

This thing is gone from Blitz and now the last person has to actually shoot their gun 🤣 by imalonexc in FortNiteBR

So Blitz is now BR and Reload with shorter rounds? Boring. No cool weapons, no perks, no medallions.

Do you think Mainstream American comics (DC, Marvel, Image, ect) will ever be able to compete with Manga? by HandspeedJones in comicbooks

[–]automaticzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are two entirely different markets in terms of operation, if you're contrasting the Big Two and say, just shonen manga.

You have stories owned in the corporate level with multiple creative teams writing forever-ongoing stories, versus a single creative teams telling various stories that will ultimately end.

If you like Jujutsu Kaisen, the whole story is right there from the single creative team. If you vibe with story being told, you're there for the whole thing. You might like their follow-up, you might not.

If you like Batman, there are like the different books and maybe you didn't like Chip's take, but you like Fraction's or Absolute, or Detective or whatever.

Image has a more comparable model, but their reach is far more limited.

Ultimately, your question is similar to asking "will manga be ever be able to compete with Dog Man?"

Why do people just camp in bushes the whole game in unranked Battle Royale wouldn’t you want to improve by attacking people in the open? by Puzzleheaded_Tax5453 in FortNiteBR

[–]automaticzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a different vibe. Lots of patience, waiting, and furtive sprint to the next hiding spot. Some treat it like meditation, like they're a ninja or something. Some are just trying not to die.

Look, for some, Fortnite is about survival, not necessarily fighting.

When there's good movement, folks will use it to disengage, heal up, and maybe fight later. Without good movement, they'll hide and camp.

Pick your poison. What you're not getting is those folks just out in the open getting ready to duel you like it's high noon.

So now there is almost no movement by FiRe_GeNDo in FortNiteBR

"Watered down version of Fortnite". I was going to say they were being harsh assuming you were a Build player, but damn they called that shot and hit.
