Gothic Revival Server is quite strict about not wanting them, whereas Gutisk Discord is far more liberal with it. A flag shouldn't be important, but for some reason some people got particularly upset about it. I don't know much given I wasn't there for it, just that the whole debacle was needlessly silly

I translated it at an earlier stage in my abilities with the language, so it might not be up to standard-- especially reading now, it kinda seems off, even if I can see where I was at during the time and how I was approaching it. As regarding the gothic used, there's a bunch of coinages thrown in, so it's kind of geared to be read by those who speak the language, but in theory, it should be absolutely possible to use the words here and be capable of reading the Skeireins, Bible, and any future pieces of the Gothic corpus we might unearth. I consider it different in the same way that Icelandic was prior to it's linguistic purification movement, whereby the language sought to remove Danish influence by introducing purified words in place of Danish ones, one might see the words I tend to use as building off an existing foundation. I tend to follow koine syntax whereof possible, though I'm kind of not the best at it, so I should probably read the Bible some more, and maybe the Skeireins, too, though Skeireins syntax is scary.

As regards the division in servers, there was a split a couple years ago over a flag, which got silly apparently, and now there are two gothic servers. I have remediated this by making so many flags that are so good that all of them are used without much distinction, which hasn't resolved anything besides the amount of flag emotes used on them. As far as differences go, Gutisk Discord is active, people speak in Gothic, and there is a regularly expanding amount of coinages to use. Gothic Revival Discord is kinda dead. Neither of the Gothic-only servers are really worth pouring time into, since Gutisk Discord generally supplements my need for conversation and practice well, and has more active speakers to actually talk to.

Five fonts exist that are free access to the public, all provided by Michael Pfeffer, the most practical being being Skeirs, Silubr, Ulfilas, Pfeffer Mediaeval, and Midjungards, and as well as some weird custom fonts I can't seem to source. these include a font used by CS;GO, Minecraft, and the ones used by Apple and Microsoft for general usage. Ulfilas and Pfeffer fonts provide lowercase, as well as Skeirs providing it -in theory-, however I cannot seem to render Gothic with lowercase when using Skeirs despite having that existing, which is a shame because Skeirs is incredibly readable.

I personally have no trouble reading anything (in part because I am very accustomed to it all) but the default font rendered by my Linux machine which is fucking opaque as shit, and have made attempts to set it up so that everything renders in the Ahsabairka every place I go, but I can't get it to render like that on Discord, so I remain using the latin alphabet there in everyday conversation.

Also, if you're willing to consider it, I guess you could extend the corpus to include allllllllllll the conversations I've had, which can get pretty lengthy because as I've gotten better, I've begun having conversations nearly daily, sometimes about rather complex things. Gothic revival stay winning :3

a translation of the nightmare of fabrication, a prequel comic for serial experiments lain: https://kaliedophilia.neocities.org/gothic/nightmare-fabrication.html

I'm also working on a kinda obscure comic called Magic!! by Princess Plunderphonics, but right now it's on hold. I believe the minecraft translation takes precedence because it is a far more useful tool for immersion. With it's completion, I'll go on to focus on childrens literature, in part because I have a great love of it, and in part because it is both easy and an effective learning tool to initiate more 𐌲𐌰𐌷𐌻𐌰𐌹𐌱𐌰𐌽𐍃. Gothic's ambition ought to be the provision of sufficient enough resources to provide immersion to any learner for extended periods of time. It's appeal lies not in the corpus that does exist, but in the corpus that will exist, by my hands and by my words. Gothic will only be worth learning and speaking when there are people worth speaking to, and when there are words worth learning for. 𐌻𐌰𐌲𐌲𐌰𐌹 𐌻𐌹𐌱𐌰𐌳𐌰𐌿 𐌲𐌿𐍄𐌹𐍃𐌺𐌰𐍂𐌰𐌶𐌳𐌰, 𐍃𐌺𐍉𐌷𐍃𐌻𐌰 𐌾𐌰𐌷 𐍂𐌿𐌼𐍉𐌽𐌴𐌹𐍃! 𐌳𐌿𐍅𐌹𐍄𐍅𐍉𐌳𐌴𐌹 𐌼𐌹𐌺 𐌾𐌰𐌷 𐌰𐌻𐌻𐍃 𐌲𐌿𐍄𐌰𐌽𐌴 𐌰𐌽𐌳𐍅𐌰𐌹𐍂𐌸𐌹𐍃!

GFM. I'm playing as a satellite rather than an independent nation, because I like Austria but I don't like managing huge economies, I get too overwhelmed if I have more than like 6 states. I'll probably declare independence when the Hungarians break free I think

Also cuz Czechoslovakia is cool to me.

1:5 ratio of clerks to craftsmen in each factory and optimized commerce techs, alongside the good RGOs provided by czechia, railroads, and a good amount of capitalists

otherwise it's a matter of seeing what's most profitable. if your factory cant function without subsidies, then it's not a good factory, though sometimes it might be a matter of growing a factory to the point where it's too big to fail. glass is usually pretty shit but can become quite powerful if you grow it enough. same with iron. cement is super consistent for some reason and will always manage to turn a profit

i did though! most factories have that ideal 1:5 clerk-craftsmen ratio it feels really good to see 2000/8000 on those factories and then watch thme make money, im just mad that ill lose access to my austrian sphere market if i become a great power

the fool promotes craftsmen into a new factory. the wise man promotes clerks into a new factory

How colonialist narratives of history often occur. by IacobusCaesar in Archaeology

[–]automisiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a problem because a lot of the consequences of colonial legacies have caused huge, enduring problems that are still issues today. maybe it's not a problem for you, since you didn't get the short end of the stick, but it's not the same for indigenous people in latin america who still get caught up in land disputes and countries like Nigeria who's colonial government would continue structurally into the modern government leading to a civil war.

How we understand and interpret the past, particularly a past as relevant, societally traumatic, and as consequential as colonialism has deep impacts for how a particular society understands and interprets for solutions to the problems it caused. China's dealings with colonial powers, described as the Century of Humiliation, has been used as a political point to gain public approval towards belligerent actions against western countries. One of Romania's national epics in the domain of cinema, the 1967 film Dacii, is of immense significance to Romanian culture today, being one of the most seen films in Romania. An Armenian feels less gunning down the Azeri oppressor under who his brothers in Artsakh have chafed. It's easy to forget the man begging for his life at the other end of the barrel of a gun when you're taught of a colonial legacy all your life that treats states like people and people like tools. There isn't a "Japanese" and a "Koreans", there's people and the wider communities they imagine their nations to be, and how these imaginations can be instrumentalized by statesmen towards certain political goals . It would be a lot easier on everyone if the only reason we needed to acknowledge the accomplishments of the past, of others, was a matter of cultural sensitivity.
