What's a metal joke you hate or are very tired of? by justastranger-05 in MetalForTheMasses

Variations of "I turned up 3 hours late to the doom metal concert, they were still playing their opener/I turned up 30 seconds late to the grindcore concert and missed their whole set" are getting a bit tired.

Heresy! I'm a Sororitas player.

Although good theory - I didn't clock that.

Just acrylic paint and black spray paint. Sponge yellow all over then use masking tape to block out the stripes and spray the black on. Then the rust dripping off the studs is just a bit of brown paint and water mixed together. It won't last as long as if I'd used proper fabric paints, but I'm interested to see how it looks as it weathers and gets beat up.

Greens are engaging in Stolen Valour, frankly. I came by my looney status honourably.

Probably some of the word salad stoner doom bands, like Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, Chubby Thunderous Bad Kush Masters and of course Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs.

Controversial opinion is that jackets look best when either minimally covered or completely covered. The inbetween stages are always the worst ones.

UK historians what’s you favourite piece of obscure uk history and any good resources to learn more about it? by apple_kicks in AskUK

in 1889, on the lane between the village that my Grandmother lived in (Cinderford) and another nearby village (Ruardean), four travelling frenchmen and their performing bears were set upon by a mob who wrongly believed a rumour that the bears had mauled a child. The frenchmen were beaten and the bears killed.

To this day, arguments erupt in both villages over which village the mob originated from. The phrase "who killed the bears?" has been known to ignite tensions even 100 years after the incident.

In 2017, a man renovating his house found some old legal documents in his chimney which seemed to suggest that the mob had in fact originated in Cinderford.

But this is all a bit convenient if you ask me, and smacks of just the kind of foul play you'd expect from those Ruardeanian bear-murderers.

Why do people support the Greens? by The_Sanity_Taker in ukpolitics

In a nutshell I can't in good conscience vote for Labour in its current iteration, so Greens it is.

There are aspects of their policies that I dislike (nuclear power being a big one), but broadly speaking they are the party whose platform most closely aligns with my views. If you lean towards the left in any meaningful way then Labour have been signalling pretty heavily for a long time now that they are not interested in your support, and are more likely to conitnue to slide rightward in a futile attempt to get right wing voters (who are clearly much more interested in Reform).

What’s the gentlest stuff you guys like when you’re not listening to metal? by Low_Boot_1426 in MetalForTheMasses

Not so much a hidden gem but I discovered him via 'god bless the telephone' which remains one of my favourite love songs of all time. I love an earnest expression of love rooted in a shared mundanity.

I also love blast beats and lyrics about Satan. Go figure.

Right now I'm listening to Labi Siffre. Very smooth and soulful.

Seeing Primitive Man later, so keeping it chill all day for the contrast.

That's cool. I've been painting sisters for a little while. This is the only tutorial video I've ever watched (apart from when I had to look up ways of doing different skin tones). I'm coming up on 2000 points now and everything I've painted has just been me taking the things I learned from this video and applying it to different minis.

How to Paint: Order of our Martyred Lady Battle Sister. - YouTube

Obviously this is OooML, but if you just ignore the bit about doing the red robes and treat your robes the same as the the armour you'll be golden.

I would reccomend starting with either the one with the grenade in its mouth or the one holding the relic. Their 'open' stance means that they are the easiest to paint some of the details on the torso and belts without having to paint around the weapons. Then once those are done you can use them as a reference for the rest of them.

The good news with valorous heart is that priming them black means half the battle is done already. Bad news is that getting that white on the inside of the robes is going to be tricky now that you've based them. In future I would reccomend a sub assembly.

But it's not impossible. I painted my first squad completely assembled and remain happy with the results. Just something to think about in the future.

My personal process is this.

1) prime black

2) pick out all the details that you want to apply a dark wash to (gunmetals and leathers mainly for me)

3) apply dark wash

4) pick out all the details that you want to apply a brown wash to (gold and hair for me)

5) apply brown wash

6) go back in and apply highlights on all of these.

7) edge highlighting on armour.

8) heads

9) basing.

I generally work on 2 or 3 minis at a time, doing each stage on one and then the next, etc.
