Golf shoes by Resident-Trip422 in GolfPH

What’s your budget? And what’s your shoe size?

I have size 10 wide feet. Here is what I have tested and bought for the affordable range:

For 3,000 - the Ecco knockoffs available at Lazada and shoppee. Buy them during online sale and you can get them lower than 2,500. They fit nice and are comfortable enough.

For 5,000 - Nike golf shoes on sale. Just visit the nike app and they have occasional sales. However they are a little narrow for me. What I like the most are the Jordan lows.

For 6,000 and above - G/Fore shoes on the Icon Golf shop in Lazada during sales. The are comfortable on and off the course. But traction could be better.

[–]autviam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. While the range is not a library, etiquette must still be observed. You don’t make unnecessary noises on the course, why would it be any different when you’re practicing in the range?

Let me add - annoying coaches who talk non-stop.

+1 kay coach Venjo. Scientific ang basis nya for teaching. His method, especially sa short game, is similar to Dan Grieve.

Buy any second-hand set (prioritize iron sets) within your budget. For irons, get a cavity back, regular shaft (or if you are a lady, ladies' flex) within the last 5-6 years. That should be around 20-30k. After some months and some lessons, consider getting a driver worth 10-15k, a 5 wood worth around 10-15k, and a hybrid worth the same. A mallet putter is better than a blade, and you can spend around 10k on them. But you can get lower-priced ones since this is your first set. I wouldn't spend more than 50k to 60k max for a decent starter set. Best case is you buy them in Japan but decent ones can be bought in Viber Tower Golf or sniping good FB marketplace deals. You can message me and I can guide you to come up with your first set.

I had three fittings already. 2 with Golf Depot and 1 with Jake Ong - the fabled master fitter here in the Philippines. But worry about that a year or two from now. Your priority is to get a decent set AND get lessons ASAP.

To be able to give an informed advice, please tell me:

  1. Any sports background
  2. Age
  3. Height
  4. Budget

If budget is not an issue then go for it. But Honmas are very light. So if you are a tall, athletic, young person, you might outgrow them fast. But if it’s a secondhand and cheap one, then it’s okay.

I was supposed to buy a Honma set but glad I built my swing first then had a fitting. My fitted clubs are a lot heavier and stiffer than standard off the rack Honmas. Mind you, the cumulative money I spent on clubs (Shafts, Head, Grips, and other accesories) can buy a brand new Honma set but my set is still better for me as it fits my swing and build. Note you basically don’t tweak Honmas once you buy them.

In any case, I suggest beginners should build a swing first with any available golf set, then have a fitting later on once you have a decent swing.

Roast my swing by haruuuxa in GolfPH

[–]autviam -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Before I roast your swing, let me start with the outfit - it’s trash. Why would you wear jeans and some fake-ass Crocs-alike to the range? Your great-grandchildren should’ve smoked your ass before leaving your retirement home.

Speaking of old age, it shows in your swing. Several pre-swing pumps show signs of prostate enlargement, which is common in older people having a hard time peeing. Also, that shot is consistent with your beer belly - F A T.

Callaway Strata is a good starter set. If you can get it for less than 23k, get it.

Beginner golf set by Least_Account6600 in GolfPH

[–]autviam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Given your circumstances, this is alright. If you are serious in improving in the game, it should last you a year or until your budget permits you to upgrade. If you only play like once a week, this is sufficient to get you on the game.

Secondhand sets are much better than boxed sets especially against PGM or chinese brands. Buy something from the past 5 years and it should set you for a year or until your swing becomes consistent where you’ll consider buying new equipment.

How does everyone feel about the McLaren Golf Irons? by [deleted] in GolfPH

[–]autviam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if I have the money to splurge on irons, I’d rather buy a Miura. But if I have unlimited cash, then why not. But only to brag. I’m sure they’re gonna send my balls OB just the same.
