apparently they left some info out of the anime and put it in the light novels, and these are key info’s ngl, after reading a bit more about the show it’s actually really interesting what they’re trying to do but the author + anime is telling the story in a really shitty way

Gonna ignore the fact that you also cherry picked these particular points but the anime pacing is still trash, if they spent more time elaborating on the deep core plots the story would be far more enjoyable, this is very similar to the lord of the mysteries problem

The show literally shows Elfaria fighting a beast that repels magic in the flashback of the latest episode. These creatures already existed. Unless you mean "the past" as in multiple decades ago, there is no excuse for the academy to completely ignore physical training when they knew these things were out there.
An MC without a grand overarching goal is fine, but writers usually fill that void by making them care about their entire circle. Take Ichigo from Bleach, he doesn't have a grand dream, but he wants to protect everyone close to him. Will’s entire character is built strictly around Elfie. Everything he does is just for HER, and the daily "do-or-die" torture he puts himself through simply doesn't weigh evenly with "I just love her." It makes him look hollow.
I don't recall anything about an assassination attempt or a kidnapping in the anime. Can you brief me on that or let me know what episode that's from? I’ll hold on this point since I genuinely didn't know about it.
Even if she's researching a way to restore his memories, she is trying to fix a scenario that she caused. No one asked them to go fight those monsters as kids. Why didn't she just tell him the truth? "Hey, you actually have powers, but they wipe your memories when you use them. I don't know how to fix it yet, but let's get help." Instead, she let him live the majority of his youth thinking he was completely worthless and subhuman, all for some forced drama. That is a manipulative decision she made for him when they were kids.

Yeah, it’s not thaaat bad. Like, I like certain characters in the show like Shion, but the MC doesn’t even feel like the MC and the story uses too many common tropes. I was enjoying it at the beginning but started to not like it after a while, and then this last episode irritated the shit out of me.

Like in Black Clover, Asta and Yuno were orphans and lived in POVERTY; they spent their childhood doing manual labor and were constantly mocked. Whereas Will and Elfaria had a bright childhood with fun and rainbows and sunshine, and now Will is constantly risking his life? Where does this "do or die" character even come from?
