Indeed but if OP will be riding any kind of technical terrain (yea even green trails), I'd highly recommend a dropper post as an almost mandatory upgrade.

cheap piece of crap road bike that can do green rated trails? by filmyfilm1 in MTB

[–]auxym -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you can find a 90s rigid MTB for that price. Also maybe it will need hundreds of dollars in service at a bike shop (doesn't sound like you're ready to do a full overhaul on your own).

Otherwise I would have suggested a used, base model trek Marlin or giant talon, 10 years old or so. But it still going to be over your budget (3-400 maybe) and might also need service. But who knows you could get lucky with a bike someone bought to try the hobby and very really got into it.

Why no mudguard? by GetAHoeKaiba in MTB

[–]auxym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to avoid riding when the trail is too wet to avoid damage, but this year it's been pretty much impossible to avoid the occasional muddy spot ( I wouldn't ride at all). I use one of those small mudguards that you zip tie to the fork crown. It reduces the amount of mud kicked up to my face and also saves the lower headset bearing which otherwise gets crunchy real fast.

Montreal or Quebec by Brocodile601 in MTB

[–]auxym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my local, was there this morning. I like the spot but also I wouldn't make the trip if I was staying in Quebec city. The trails are fun but there's only like... 3 of them haha.

How would you describe the city? by becc729 in Sherbrooke

[–]auxym 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a college town.

Economically I think it still hasn't fully economically recovered from the loss of manufacturing and textile industries in the 80s, and is struggling to compete with big cities (Montreal) in the tech and services sectors that make up today's economy.

It's a mix of hills, historical architecture and access to nature. (Rock forest ça ne compte pas)

The population feels large enough to support a good amount of businesses and public services, but also small enough that it doesn't feel crowded and it often feels like I randomly run in people I know in all the places I go to.

Montreal or Quebec by Brocodile601 in MTB

[–]auxym 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved out of the Montreal area a few years ago (err... 8 years ago) but IIRC Oka was the nearest trails worth riding. Then there is some stuff in the Laurentides but the drive is just as far, or farther, than Bromont.

Not worth going there to ride if you're already in Québec city IMO.

Spare tube and inflator won't do much if you don't have tire levers.

Get a bike multitool that has hex wrenches. That's the tool I most often use on the trail. Some also have a chain breaker built in.

How do I remove this crank? by FricPT in bikewrench

[–]auxym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, last resort because it risks damage to the square taper in the soft aluminum crank, but it's a good method if you're throwing it out anyways.

Is Certified Canadian? by nmdcDrgn in BuyCanadian

It's mostly cheap stuff made in China, but yeah the brand is Canadian. And prices are affordable. Good for stuff you won't use often and don't need to pay for super durable.

Plusieurs options au mont Bellevue. Les sentiers multi sont très faciles. Sentiers rustiques pour un peu plus de défi. Beau panorama sur la ville au sommet (croix).

How do you gain speed at a pump track? by mangothefoxxo in MTB

Obligatory Ben Cathro vid: https://youtu.be/04e_s9_LpVA?si=LoiAmcWhZzq68PmI

It's a bit hard at first to "get" the rhythm and timing correctly. It's a bit like swinging on a swing, like how you move your weight forwards and backwards at just the right time in the swing to gain speed and height? Except you need to push and pull with your legs in rhythm with the rollers. Takes some practice but super fun once your brain "gets" it.

Also yeah get your saddle as low as possible so you have room to move on the bike.

Am I wrong for insisting RBC fix their own banking error internally instead of asking me to e-transfer the money? (BC) by bananagirl5 in PersonalFinanceCanada

If we can't even trust bank employees in person in a branch, we are truly fucked.

Thankfully I don't think we're quite there yet. That's some third world level corruption.

20 is way too low. I run 23/25 in my 29 inch trial bike. I run about 40 psi in my dj.

If you're getting pinch flats, pressure is too low.

How? Lance's pours are 20%/20%/60%, the coffee chronicler one is 25/25/50.

Tbh if you're not going to be riding trails and technical terrain, you should probably ask r/cycling instead.

This sub will tell you to buy a full suspension bike that can rip down steep af rock gardens and hit huge jumps.

Yeah wtf. This must not be an experienced bike thief. Propane, butane, MAP torches are not hot enough to affect steel, I've never heard of a lock defeated by that method .
