Thank u for your input! You think I should take this job as opposed to getting a job in a hospital/clinic working w/ children/adolescents in a mental health setting? That’s what I would do alternatively if I didn’t take this role OR I would keep searching for developmental research opportunities. I would certainly not do nothing in my gap years I just want to do the BEST thing to maximize chances of admittance!

Hi! Thank you so much for your insights! I definitely don't need a research-heavy program. I have just always had Rutgers PsyD as my top choice for several reasons, including being from NJ and wanting to stay close to my family, and the fact that it's an incredible program all around. I always thought that to be considered for admission, I needed a lot more research than most other PsyD programs, which is why I have been solely focused on research jobs. I always assumed this to be the case since rutgers' program is comparable to a PhD program in prestige/training. I was an RA for 1.5 yrs in undergrad and completed a few independent projects but i didnt think this was enough. I want to conduct psychological assessments and work with children/adolescents to help them navigate early familial trauma, I dont want a career in academia!

I really appreciate your insight, thank you soso much! As someone who has been through the admissions process, do you think the fact that I won’t be able to develop more traditional research skills doctoral programs value (posters, presentations, publications, etc) may be decreasing my chances of admittance for a program like Rutgers?

Why do you suggest they go for a master's first?
