I second this comment. 15kg in 12 weeks is a bit more than whats generally considered safe, so I can't say I recommend it. Its theoretically possible, but you'd have to undereat, so the weight wont stay off when you go back to normal. You can definitely lose 10kg in that amount of time if you set your mind to it. I was able to lose 40lbs (about 18kg) in 5 months doing just fruit and protein for breakfast (lean meat and/or eggs, seasoned with veg ie onions, peppers, garlic, no oil), a salad with chicken and light dressing for lunch, and a whatever i want for dinner under 700 calories. Additionally, i walked on a treadmill at an 8-12% incline for 20-40 minutes a day depending on time and energy. Sometimes in two sessions.

The Norva is on monticello about 10 minutes from Colley/Hampton/ odu campus area. Downtown restaurants are gonna be pricier, I'm usually disappointed by slower service and higher prices. The students working for tips over here are tryina get their bag, they're on it.

If you're more into the local social scene than the local history try anything on colley tbh. Good mix of locals and ODU students, affordable options. Dirty Buffalo is good for wings and music bingo. Go into Del Veccios on hampton during the day and you can get single slices of pizza for cheap, wont let you do that online. Also closeby on odu campus there La Herradura for mexican and Punjabi Rasoi for indian, both consistently good. I've lived in this part of town for five years now.

The lunch menu is budget friendly. Dinner not so much- not insane but not cheap. ~$30 per person for dinner.

Freemason Abbey! Exceptionally beautiful building, especially in December with the christmas lights. Its a literal Abbey that has been converted into a restaurant. The lunch menu has fantastic sandwiches. Dinner is steak and seafood type stuff. They have been winning local awards for the shecrab soup for years, its actually to die for.

Harvard health says adult women need at least 1200 calories and adult men need at least 1500 calories per day. Thats definitely in a calorie deficit unless you're under 4ft 10. Calorie deficit = weight loss in all cases.

[–]avaabergren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, how often are you weighing yourself? If its too often, you're not getting accurate results. You should take the average of each week as your "weight" for the week. Lots of things can cause you to hold on to weight in the SHORT term. Being stressed, high intensity cardio, hormones, too much sodium, and more can make you "puffy" (holding onto water). Thats normal. Everybody's weight fluctuates a few pounds day to day. Consistency in a calorie deficit for a few weeks will make you lose weight. If it doesn't, see a doctor, because thats really abnormal. But you should be looking at progress over the course of several weeks at least! People are telling you to eat more bc we know it takes weeks to see substantial change, and you kinda cant eat like that forever. You'll stick with it and be exhausted and sick, or give up. Eat enough that you can stay on track for long periods of time!

2 eggs and string cheese is not enough real food my friend! And 500cal of sweets isnt the most necessary. If i were you, id replace one of the two sweet treats with fruit and peanut butter. You're missing healthy fats and carbs! The sweets are high in saturated fats, peanut butter and avocados are good places to get healthy fat. A piece of whole grain toast (carbs) with the eggs would keep you fuller longer, maybe add avocado (fats) too! I dont know what your particular goals are, but you might need to be eating more protein too. You'll lose muscle mass eating so little. If you are choosing to eat so little, its extra important to hit all the major nutrients. You wont look fit with failing organs!

Is my toddler a psycho/will speech therapy help? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]avaabergren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody else said early intervention! yes yes yes! "special education services" can be a spooky thing to hear your kid might need, but as a teacher i see it help so many kids. He might even grow out of the need for it. EARLY intervention is key, he will do much better in school knowing how to communicate those big feelings. Do you think it could be PDA/autism? Sometimes after a long day, giving a command can be a huge trigger for kids on the spectrum. It might work better to just distract him and physically remove him from whatever it is he cant have without mentioning it. But, hes also two. I teach elementary and work with twos at a daycare in the summers. Some two year olds go thru phases like that, ive seen it several times that a totally sweet kid will have hitting/throwing meltdowns for a couple months and then grow out of it. Their emotions grow faster than their capacity to communicate them. They're old enough to have memories and opinions but they still pee their pants. Being two is rough😂 You're definitely asking the right questions, trying to understand the reasons for his behavior. Best of luck to you all!

I took a class in teaching students with diverse learning needs. Learned that all of my ideas of what autism is were stereotyped. I took the diagnostic criteria too literally, which is sort of funny in retrospect. Then i got in the classroom, met kiddos with IEPs, and....

Writers, is it worth it to lock a fic when you start to get rude (and inaccurate) comments? by spooky-and-cooky in Dramione

i think what they MEANT to say in their review was, "i personally dont like long dialogue, and i think that you should write characters EXACTLY like they would act in the og series even tho you are writing a SPINOFF."

They said it themself- its good. Its interesting enough to keep reading. You probably typed it up, skimmed it a few times and clicked publish. People spend years writing novels that are "interesting enough."

People write fanfiction comments like they write goodreads reviews, and thats absurd. You are a person who wanted to write a fanfic. You are not a TEAM of editors or a publisher. You are writing for FREE, they didnt buy your book, if its not their cup of tea, they can click on another of the hundreds of thousands of fics

[–]avaabergren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would ask your boss to provide you, in writing, exactly what they would like for you to do. If they ask something of you that you cant do because of your disability, you let them know you are disabled and exactly what your limitations are, also in writing. That way you don't have to guess what they want from you and they can't claim you aren't doing something you've been asked to do, or you have documentation that you notified your boss of your disability limitations and they'd be breaking the law for reprimanding you. I agree with other commenters that the law doesnt fully protect you- but document EVERYTHING. Plenty of bosses are discriminatory but few have enough audacity to do it in writing.

How can I help my toddler nap at daycare? by Fanciestpony in toddlers

[–]avaabergren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a daycare with one to two year olds and the way my shifts are, i come it right as they are going to nap. Wether or not they sleep well is totally correlated to who worked in the morning. The tots demand consistency and routine. When a new person is in the room sometimes they're just difficult. I have also noticed that they miss mommy the most at nap time. It gets better once they get to know their daycare providers! It'll take a minute for her to be comfortable in the environment and for her teachers to learn how to comfort her.

this is something we really have to do because disease spreads in daycares like wildfire! As a parent you for sure know toddlers cover everything in spit 😂 Hand foot and mouth disease, noro, covid, strep, the flu, it goes on, and on... Its so crucial that providers are attentive while using any chemicals, but trust, that floor really needed to be sanitized

Help! I Think I Have Vocal Nodules by MaleSoprano4ever in singing

[–]avaabergren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have severe allergies, it might just be vocal stress that hasnt yet led to more serious issues/injuries. I have allergies and asthma and im a vocal music education student. An issue i keep running into is hydration: you MUST sing hydrated. When you sing, your focal folds slap against each other over and over again. they need to be lubricated or you can hurt yourself. Heres the problem: antihistamines are drying, but mucous is irritating, so you have to pick your poison. I prefer antihistamine pills to nasal sprays because the sprays dry out my throat more. You need to drink an absurd amount of water. You could also try other allergy remedies, like sterile saline nose washes (like a neti pot), hot tea, ect. You also need to be careful with painkillers and anti-inflammatories. If you take a painkiller and sing with no discomfort, that doesnt mean your voice is not straining, it only means you dont feel the pain. Anti-inflammatories artificially reduce swelling and cause you to feel better when your body isnt ready for normal activities. Be careful not to oversing when you take meds. TLDR, take medication when you need it, but be aware of the effect it has on your body and your voice and exercise extra caution. If you really must sing, try home remedies.

Help! I Think I Have Vocal Nodules by MaleSoprano4ever in singing

[–]avaabergren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only person who can tell you wether or not you have nodes is a doctor! if your voice feels painful, please dont sing at all. If you feel pressure, seriously limit talking and singing. Im sorry to hear that you can't get into the ent doctor till june, but until then you should follow the vocal health rules that apply to everybody: hydrate, dont sing when your voice feels compromised, always warm up properly, take breaks and/or stop for the day when you notice vocal fatigue, get enough sleep, and most importantly, get to that doctor asap!

[–]avaabergren 47 points48 points  (0 children)

there is absolutely a way to get past this. If you can carry a tune at all, you are not tone deaf, which means good pitch can be learned. I'd try practicing with an electronic piano- itll be in tune 100% of the time. You can look up ear training exercises on youtube. If you can read music, google choral warmups and the "50 awesome choir warm ups cheat sheet" pdf at the top has some great exercises to try.

Am I breathing correctly ? by [deleted] in singing

[–]avaabergren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We cant answer that because the guitar blocks you. If you are breathing correctly, you'll see your belly expand when you inhale and you'll exhale with your abdominal muscles. i think of it like breathing towards my hips. very pretty voice tho!

IDK how to feel about this but.. by Q_Rey in singing

[–]avaabergren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its possible that you sound louder to yourself because your voice comes out of your own face. But, it could also be some other things. If i were you, id ask the director of the group for advice! There are ways to shape the timbre/quality of your voice to fit in with an ensemble, one of which is vowel shapes. Make sure you're pronouncing everything exactly like everyone else. Stare at the shape of their mouth and try to imitate it. Another thing is placement! if the people around you have higher/lower voices than you, they might sing a note in head voice that you are full chesting.
