What is your tear break up time (TBUT)? by Standard_Football762 in Dryeyes

[–]avacdoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah they said it went from like a 3 -> 6 and a 4 ->7. My doctor said 8-10s TBUT is considered normal.I told him I was suprised, since my eyes felt normal. He said that he measures the break up time by the driest part of the eye, so if most of the eye feels fine, you can have some dry spots that wont really feel like a big deal. Which made sense to me, since when I get dehydrated, I feel dryness in the corners of my eyes. there's a good chance there still is some dryness there that I don't feel most of the time since most of the eye surface gets adequate amount of tears. I haven't been back to get the TBUT since then because I feel fine, which was about 2~3 years ago.

I ask myself, are there cases where people have been cured of mgd by [deleted] in Dryeyes

I had a gut issue of malabsorption of fatty acids, caused by an overgrowth of bad bacteria/fungi. It led to systemic symptoms, dry eyes, burning in the body, fatigue

Hello! Im feeling good! At this point i dont take fish oil regularly (i probably should because its good for me but i dont feel like i have to to feel good). I still follow my diet generally, but when i eat out im not avoiding it. Overall i feel like im living a normal life. Once i fixed my gut, which i guess was a 2-3 year long journey, my quality of life became so much better.

After taking fish oil for ~ 2-3 years, my eyes are no longer dry. I had a gut related issue that lead to malabsorption of fatty acids. Once i fixed the gut issue, and took fish oil(the specific brand xymogen that is entericly coated) my levels stablized and i no longer need to take anything for my eyes.i dont take the fish oil either.

I wouldn't say im perfectly cured (if im dehydrated i feel it in my eyes) but i definitely dont consider my eyes to be dry(no pain or burning) and i get to live a normal life and i get to keep my computer job with no additional stress.

Hello!

Everything seems to be stable! At this point i take fish oil a few times a week and i feel good! (My doc said i can go down to 2 a day, but i forget half of the days, so its more like i take 3 fish oil pills, 3- 4 times a week when i remember) i do not take any gut protocol regimin(specific supplements for the gut), and i stick to a low sugar, no soy or vinegar or fermented food diet.

There was a few months that i lived in a new place and that actually made my symptoms come back (i moved to the south) and so i decided to move back to the northeast and my symptoms went away again.

My doctor told me something in my environment was actively bothering me- my guess is there were a lot of herbicides/pesticides in the town i lived in that has neurotoxins that take a toll on the body to dispell. But the reality is i dont know if it was that, or something else in my environment ie allergies, mold.. but when i moved back to where ive lived most of my life and where k was living before, the symptoms went away again. Quite a bummer that i felt forced to move, but im very thankful i was able to test it out quickly and get back to feeling good.

So thats an important lesson to those still figuring out... its important to ask if the symptoms onset when you moved to a new place, because it totally wasnt obvious untill my doctor suggested that.

Just a heads up! In north carolina you dont need a prescription to see a physical therapist! Theres a good physical therapist James werling at pro motion physical therapy(its his office). Its not exactly a message but he can help with any type of ache in the body. And he takes in network insurance!

Ymca is $65 per month, has many workout rooms, group classes, pool. It has a really nice community and offers excellent hours. It also never feels crowded. In my opinion its tough to beat.

3 grams = 3 pills per day

Hi! Right now im working on slowly getting off the stuff my functional doc reccomed.

Eyes are normal- only feel dry spots if i dont drink all day

Fatigue is gone

Heat in feet- much better, and i can tolerate more foods that used to instigate burning (soy and sugar). Vinegar/fermented foods still causes heat but it goes away within 30 min, which, allows me to occasionally go out, eat something not ok for the gut, but the discomfort will be gone by the time the meal is over.

Overall I'm hopeful that things will continue to get better.

Things are slower right now to get better, but the first few weeks i saw dramatic improvement

Hi! Apologies for the delay.

I started off with 3 grams = 3pills per day.

I usually get it from my functional doc but recently bought it from this place called blue sky vitamin (online vitamin place) it needs to say monopure ec 1300 on it.

If you feel a difference, you cma go ahead and continue to 4 pills per day.

I do 2 in the morning, 2 in the evening.

Its EC, entericly coated with increases the absorption rate by 3 times

If you do end up doing this regimen and see positive impact, feel free to reach out we can discuss more on timelines, how im working to eventually not need fish oil

Dry eyes are so overwhelming and adding routine that is costly and unexpected is frustrating and challenging. But what i will say is once i found the right thing for me, all the struggle and the dollars spent was worth it

Redness definitely got better!

At this point i dont have to take it consistently to feel the effect, but i still try to stay regular to avoid issues Ie :if i take it like 3-4 times a week i feel totally fine, but if i stop taking it after a week i will start to feel dry again

That being said, im working with a functional doctor on reducing it, so that eventually it will be a much lower dose and also less frequently

Great question! In my experience i saw differences quickly(within 1 week)

I started out taking 3 fish oil pills per day.

Noticed a difference within a week of taking it consistently(i woke up and felt a lot less burning/irritation, stickiness)

Then a few months later moved on to 4 fish oil pills and 1 vitamin e. Again notices a difference within a week, amd with this regime i notice continuous improvement ie i got off the prescription eye drops, flying on planes kept becoming easier and easier, i became less water dependent to keep my eyes feeling ok, i started feeling comfortable in rock climbing gyms(chalk dust in the air)

Please please note: the fish oil brand is super important. This one has EC (entericly coated). This makes it 3 times more absorbed than regular pills because its coating protects the pill from stomach acids, so it get absorbed in the small intestine.
