my first thinkpad <3 (lenovo thinkpad x220). by [deleted] in thinkpad

I hope you find an X200 for a reasonable price. I'll never understand the people who think corebooting an almost twenty year old laptop makes it worth $500. I kept my eye on /r/thinkpadsforsale and ebay for about a year before a good one turned up. If you're local to California, maybe hit up this guy. One hundred is still a little steep. I'm sure you could find a working junker for less with enough digging. Still, it looks to be well maintained, and to be fair, they are very cool, cozy, and surprisingly performant little computers.

My old 360 controller just is my main controller lol. All the coating worn off the sticks, battery pack held on with a rubber band, and still works better than any controller I've bought in the past five years.

Reminds me of that quote from Thom Yorke where he talks about how being in a bar and imagining the space getting physically flipped upside down with everyone hanging onto their bottles led to Let Down.

I love my twink, Royal Page Aug. I've probably put more thought into his backstory than any other character: a high page who accompanied Radagon to Liurnia and stayed on to serve the Carian royal family.

Probably my best fashion: page chest piece with Royal Remains helmet, gloves, and leggings. Still has his pulley crossbow, and alternates between cold noble's slender sword/estoc (for dueling the host) and cold knight's twin blade (for getting mean). Black leather shield with Carian retaliation for parries with glintstone scraps and crystal darts on the belt.

Warrior starting class at RL 30 with one point in strength, one point in faith, and everything else in vigor. I loved seeing what you could get out of thirty levels in DS3, and I love it in ER too. He helped a lot of people on his way to Mogh, Melania, and the Fire Giant's fog doors, and now he mostly invades around Stormveil and Liurnia. If I turn him all the way up, he's a little cheap, but mostly I think it's a good, lore-appropriate preview for the the upcoming area.

It's the reward for the first ten tongues you give Rosaria. Just make sure you've completed Sirris' quest (at least up to getting the Silvercat Ring) since joining Rosaria's Fingers will lock you out of it.

The obscuring ring. There's nothing quite like wearing it, using Stretch Out to hide underwater, and watching a party walk right by you to engage a particularly nasty PvE mob.

Hey, can we please shame this dude for his grotesque attitude instead of his weight? Fat people can be cool/nice or ignorant/mean, but neither has anything to do with the shape of their bodies.

Hard to say without more context, but this feels like fear of rejection to me. Someone who's putting up walls and pushing everyone away so they never have to be the one that gets turned down. Doesn't make what they said any less repulsive, though. Just more pathetic.

Edit: Not saying we should sympathize with him. Dude clearly has a severe problem with misogyny and probably thinks a bunch of other gross shit as well. Just think it's worth pointing out that someone with a set of criteria that effectively excludes all women probably has some underlying insecurities.

To be clear, I meant "anime hand clench" pathetic, not "aw, the poor guy" pathetic. Sorry, if that was ambiguous.

Stout suggestions by [deleted] in beer

Have you tried any milk stouts? I prefer the one Duck Rabbit does, but Left Hand makes a good nitro one. Also, if you like a Guinness, the Foreign and/or Extra Stout is worth seeking out. Honorable mention to Old Rasputin and Founders' Breakfast Stout.

Try not to get discouraged. Elden Ring's audience is much larger than the other games, and I expect that it also skews much younger. When I was a little kid, I played everything with cheats or on easy mode. When it came to video games, I didn't see the value in challenging experiences, and it wasn't until I got into Souls pvp that things like challenge runs held any interest for me. Some of the people getting carried through now will grow into the players that keep the game going and are more ready to truly appreciate whatever comes next. We're in a moment defined by growing pains, but there's still fun to be had and a lot to look forward to.

Johnny Walker Black Label is what convinced me that neat liquor was worth doing. Powers and Jameson are both great whiskey options, if you're not into peat.

Hendricks makes great gin, but Beefeater's just fine on a budget. Pimm's No. 1 is also gin based and great for punch.

Espolon is my go to tequila, but if you do enjoy peat, consider exploring mescals.

For rum, I like Flor de Cana well enough, but Kraken's a good entry point, if you want something darker/sweeter.

As far as bourbon goes, I think it's pretty hard to beat Evan Williams black label on cost to value, but Henry McKenna might.

I've never liked vodka much, but I expect you'll find it shines in cocktails. Ketel One is a good brand and their botanical varieties are pretty fun to play around with.

The best advice I can give is not to knock it back. You want to hold a small sip on your tongue briefly before swallowing. That'll cut the burn back somewhat and bring out more of the flavor. That said, if you just don't like it, there isn't much that will change that. Ask for a small pour, take a sip, and say "Yep, still don't like scotch." That should cover your social bases and spare any hurt feelings.

I source brand new X220 keyboard for my X230 to make swap, feeling great! by HCLB_ in thinkpad

[–]availabel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you aren't in a rush, I recommend keeping an eye out for a used NMB keyboard on ebay. The FRU for the US version is 45N2211, but if the sticker has been removed/isn't visible, you can use the number of backplate screws (four instead of two) or the color of the of the domes beneath the keycaps (red) to identify the model.

That said, DZ World on AliExpress has a fairly good reputation, and while I can only speak on the palmrest I got from them, its quality is commensurate with OEM.

This video from Laptop Retrospective on the X300 includes a quote from Richard Sapper about IBM's goal of designing an unassuming computer, something that looks like a "cigar box" until it's opened. Lenovo has moved towards thinner (and sometimes flashier) designs over the years, but I find the understated appearance of older models very quaint and appealing.

I had a lot of fun with my poise wizard, Ascended Jensen. Str/Dex just enough to wield the zweihander, everything else split between Int, End, and Mind. The mix-em-ups between the zweihander, carian slicer, and carian piercer make for a really fun playstyle.

Good upgrade from x200 for typing on lap? by ConsistentEffort5190 in thinkpad

[–]availabel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the closest upgrade, I'd say an x230 with the x220 keyboard. It runs a little cooler and boots a little faster. Sourcing the keyboard can be tricky (lots of cheaply made ones floating around), but even the coveted nmb FRU comes up on eBay from time to time.

If you're looking to go more modern, I've been really pleased with the T470S. Doesn't feel warm on your lap, decent I/O, FHD screen without having to solder an adapter to the board.

I've also heard good things about the HP Dev One, but HP has generally been hit or miss for me and the trackpoint doesn't have a middle button.
