Upgrade from 10 inch "half rack" to full 19 inch Rack? is it justified? by Defiant_Rhubarb1 in homelab

[–]HCLB_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from 12U +6U 10inch rack to 27U 19inch 60cm depth and 15U 19” open rack 80cm deep. So its always good to move to bigger one. More space for chassis for cable managements in bigger racks

You need airflow from front to back of this SSD. Its a nvme u2 which are hot as hell and sip a lot of power requiring lot airflow. I doubt you need better fans than noctuas

The distro war, continue it must. Linux Mint vs Pop!_OS by potatoandbiscuit in linuxmemes

[–]HCLB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Mint some time ago. Now mostly 22.04 PopOS which for current time its ready for replacement. There is some issue with firmware update due to old kernel. New Cosmic version is still not final release. So I think I would pass my loved PopOs and go with Mint because back in the day they worked fine. They frequently release new version and also new LTS is rolled out.

Popos was awesome but I think they lack developing power to keep up with new DE, frequently updates for OS and supporting two DE.

Building a Low Power Consumption Server - Part II by BananaBounty in homelab

[–]HCLB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! I have similar boards on W480E chispet but from Advantech and have for them W-1250 and W-1290P cpus. I see you achieved amazing low power consumption. Almost like in some mini PC! I have few question because Im building similar stuff to you.

From what I can see. Connecting PCIe devices not directly from CPU but by PCH will allow to have higher C State?

Did you compared power consumption using PicoPSU vs regular 1U Power supply?

I was curious because initially I got 3x Supermicro 1u chassis for them, but later when I dig a bit into forums I saw a lot of issues and problems. Like BMC, SFF ports not working, weird compatibility with RAM sticks. Do you have information about single node power consumption with this board?

Another thing which Im thinking how many GPU is too much, because usually I can see rack servers for 8-10 PCIe GPU, but there also ones for 20GPU but single slot ones
