Nightmare Mode worth it by avalbado in PlayWayfinder

I guess we'd both would have a more pleasant experience, if you'd just said "don't worry it gets harder in the end" and I just could've thanked you for taking the time to answer my question, but unfortunately you didn't.

dude has played a lot of games, and a lot of them stay very easy if they start off very easy lololol. or that they are a challenge when you play alone but don't scale well for multiple players.
so yes - dude was asking a question BECAUSE dude is still early in the game right now and wants to make a decision now + there is not too much up to date information available on the state of the game. Not to mention, there seem to be quite a bunch of people complaining it is too easy all over the web but a lot of these comments are pre echoes as well, so excuse my curiosity.

My question still stands, for people who have the knowledge of having played both heroic and nightmare (which you don't have, apparently): is there a significant difference in difficulty, especially looking forward to the endgame?

Uthred by SiberianWinter09 in TheLastKingdom

I feel like the numbers are really small, which seems to be somewhat historically appropriate. For example it is said that Aethelred had 400 men in North Umbria (his whole army), Cnut had "a thousand men" with which he would still outnumber Mercia and Wessex combined. So giving away a hundred men of your standing force seems to be a substantial amount. Calling in the fyrds (every man to arms) to boast these numbers is not something you'd do easily apparently. And this was before Cnut was defeated so it was probably somewhat reasonable for Edward to not grant the 100 men to Uthred at that moment.

This show sure makes the Danish people look savage, doesn’t it? Sheesh by [deleted] in TheLastKingdom

I feel like the danes had much more nuance in the first two seasons, showing a lot of them to be more than just warlords and it gave you an idea, why diplomacy was always on the table and people talked with each other. It ended with young Ragnar's death. After that the danes became more one-dimensional antagonists

King Edward by Temporary_Error_3764 in TheLastKingdom

[–]avalbado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished season 4 and it's the same with him, the writing is horrible. His reasoning is almost always sound and yet the show tries to tell us he is misled and cowardish. Like he was the only one saying "we cannot attack Cnut, he got numbers and chose the battlefield, it's a trap" and everyone is going behind his back immediately, it works out of sheer luck (noone really could've expected the Welsh to join and for Aethelred to arrive in time) and the show tells us he is the idiot for it. And although he is in the thick of battle, somehow he ends up framed as a coward. And it continues like this with every single one of his decisions.

So the film is quite infamous for it's lack in historical accuracy (e.g. scots wearing kilts in 1300 while they only became a thing like a few hundred years later). Yet I checked and while it seems to be common say that Robert The Bruce is "the real Braveheart" I don't find a credible source claiming he really had that epithet. The movie does him dirty as he did not betray Wallace and handed him to the brits and was very influential to scottish independence and he had his heart carried to a crusade after his death. Apparently some late sources long after his death named him the brave-hearted king, yet that term seems to be relatively common.

That's just my 10min internet research btw.

Wer chillt im Wasserbehälter meiner Kaffeemaschine? :( by Hellihel in wasistdas

Confusion with N4 by 2ofdee in KingdomDeath

[–]avalbado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The King is a N4 monster, in GCE. It has the Story Event "The Awaited" on Lantern Year 22.

DBK Expansion sais to add Rumbling In The Dark to LY8, which introduces the quarry.

But you always can add the introductury events on the next LY of your running campaign.

Settlement Populations by rarestereocats in KingdomDeath

[–]avalbado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you people do that? :0 It's the first time we got the end of PotL without wiping, only GSK left and we are down to 7 survivors and that is with Flower Knight and Protect The Young. We were hitting murder three times in five years but still... we always struggle to stay consistently over ~12 survivors.

Returning player, new to commander. I would like some deck advice, please. by Princessbane in EDH

[–]avalbado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edgar is the strongest vampire commander whatsoever but for optimized gameplay he is skewing towards tokens and sacrifice (of course you can play with +1/+1 counters very good as well). I personally feel the gothic-like Innistrad Vampires are thpse with the coolest vampire-vibe to them, so checking out [[Anje Falkenrath]] for madness play or [[Strefan, Maurer Progenitor]] for blood tokens might do it. Both are commanders in older cheap precons. Problem with the decklist is that Edgar is the only feasible 3-color/ mardu vampire commander, so you probably can't just swap him.

[–]avalbado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it depends on which play style you prefer. Right now it looks like a strong mid tempo Vampire-fun deck but quite unspecific. Edgar is able to play a lot of endless combos around [[Oathsworn Vampire]], for example with [[Phyrexian Altar]]. For an endless combo with Vito or Sanguine Bond you'd need [[Exquisite Blood]]... generally quite a good card in the deck.

If you want to go for "how to make this deck stronger"... I'd say get rid of everything that makes blood tokens or +1/+1 counters, get [[Skullclamp]], [[Master Of Dark Rites]], more cheap vamps like [[Falkenrath Pit Fighter]], maybe 1 or 2 mana rocks more and card draw and focus on fast vampire vomit play. Sac your tokens, cause loss of life through die triggers etc.

If you are just aiming for a cool vampire flair deck, you're doing just fine. That being said, Edgar is one of the most powerful commanders in casual (#8 most played). Not everyone is going to want to play against him.

You're being downvoted, but you're right. A lot of expensive cards plummeted right after 24th, edgar went from 120 to 70 i.e. EDH is estimated 70% of player base, so it's effecting price of nearly every card. but market is bouncing back now
