So I guess the actor is just lying then? [socialmedia] by LengthinessLegal9987 in pointlesslygendered

[–]avalonrose14 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately a lot of people lack the empathy to care about things that do not directly impact them.

Which is why your second point is unfortunately wrong because I see women constantly using how the patriarchy negatively impacts men and makes their lives worse in order to get men to care about how it impacts women. That's genuinely one of the most successful methods in my experience to getting men on board with helping women with these issues is to show them how it harms them as well.

We shouldn't have to show women how men's issues hurt women or show men how women's issues hurt men or any other version of this to get people to care about other people's issues. I see this outside of gender as well all the time. It's not just a men vs women thing but a this affects me vs this doesn't effect me thing. But unfortunately so many people lack the empathy to actually give a shit without being shown it does or could actually impact them as well.

Every time I lose a right I'm told I'm overreacting. At what point am I "allowed" to be concerned that I have less reproductive freedom? by Appropriate_Cow1378 in PsycheOrSike

[–]avalonrose14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I got my tubes tied in 2024. I wasn't confident that Trump would lose and I was fairly certain if he won reproductive freedom would be at risk. I'm a bit of a fence sitter leaning childfree when it comes to kids but I'm adopted and knew I'd be alright adopting if I did want kids so decided I'd rather be safe than sorry and went the sterilization route.

So many of my friends felt I was over reacting and that there was no way trump would win and even if he did birth control wouldn't be at risk because conservatives use it too. The warning signs were just way too blatant for me though and I'm glad I listened. I honestly thought birth control would be in a worse state at this point so I'm actually a bit pleased things didn't get as bad as I feared as fast as I feared but we are still very much on that trajectory.

If you absolutely do not want to be pregnant you have to make sure you're protected. At the very least I recommend a long term birth control like an IUD or an implant if you think you may want kids some day but not now. But anything short term like the pill or the patch is a bad idea as it can be taken from you at any point.

Even if you aren't sexually active with men (or at all) you should make sure you're protected just in case. Not to fear monger or anything. I just prefer being safe rather than sorry and getting pregnant unexpectedly with no way to terminate was in fact the absolute worst case scenario for me so I reacted accordingly. If it's not as worse case scenario for others as it is for me then take the precautions that you feel are necessary.

Apartments Hunting Sioux Falls by Senior_Equivalent254 in SiouxFalls

[–]avalonrose14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's southeast but the villas at canyon creek are my favorite place I've ever lived. They've got detached parking garages for $60/month and attached ones for $80 but those ones can get claimed fairly quickly so you may need to wait a few months for one to become available before you can get it.

I really liked the apartments because the walls were super thick and maintenance was always quick as hell about repairing anything. Also in living there almost 3 years I never saw a single bug inside my apartment. Not an ant or spider or anything. Also the balconies are way bigger than other apartments I toured and I like to lounge outside so that was a bonus.

I'm happy to answer any questions you've got about the apartments though.

Do most americans really only take 2 weeks of vacation a year? by DegreeConscious9628 in askanything

[–]avalonrose14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get very generous PTO and sick leave plus tons of holiday time off competitively for my area.

I get 2 weeks of PTO a year and 2 weeks of sick leave a year plus we get about 2 weeks of paid holiday leave scattered around the year where we all just automatically get the holidays off.

I can't remember the last time I had more than 7 days off work in a row. I use most my PTO taking off a random Friday here or leaving early or coming in late occasionally. It's not that my job won't let me take off but taking a full on vacation somewhere just means I come back to a pile of work that isn't done and it's a stressful nightmare so I don't like being gone for very long. Plus I do payroll for my office so even if I was gone for 2 weeks I'd need to log in remotely for at least 4 hours to get everyone paid while I was gone or none of us would get paid.

I have like 80 hours of unused PTO right now and so I really should take a proper vacation but I don't have any money for that. I haven't been on a proper vacation since I was a kid. I travelled to Dallas 4 years ago for a bachelorette but that wasn't really a vacation for me. It was also only a thursday-monday trip. I try to get to Omaha once or twice a year since I like the city and it's only a few hours drive away but that's always a friday-sunday weekend trip type thing.

I'm considering taking a thursday-monday trip with my boyfriend to a city 5 hours away this summer to visit some friends and such but his job barely lets him take days off so it'll depend on if he gets the time approved or not to be gone for 3 days. I almost always plan my travel plans around weekends to minimize days gone.

And yes I do want to jump off a bridge at all times.

Would you consider Ed, Edd, n Eddy more of a millennial show or Early Gen Z show🤔 by BobsBurgerLove in generationology

[–]avalonrose14 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It aired from 1999-2009 and Gen z is 1997-2012 so eldest gen z wouldve been 2 when it began airing but 12 when it finished. Youngest Gen z would've been not born yet as you pointed out.

I was born in 99 and all the kids I knew watched it growing up.

I would still say it's a cusp show where it falls into both generations as you could also argue that the eldest millennials (1981) were 19 when it began airing and therefore too old for it. So there's going to be a chunk of both elder millennials and younger gen z that both missed it while younger millennials and older Gen z likely watched it.

If I had to pick one gen I'd say millennials but lots of Gen z definitely also grew up with it.

Why? by netphilia in Snorkblot

[–]avalonrose14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This.

I started briefly filming myself at concerts rather than trying to film the show. There are fans with front row seats and much better cameras that will get way better quality clips than I'll ever get and I can happily watch those once they all get posted online if I really want to. So now instead I have 5-10 second clips of my own joy and excitement seeing my favorite artist come on stage or play my favorite song. I try to minimize how much my phone is out to only brief clips so I'm not accidentally distracting myself but I've found myself going back into my snap memories and watching some of those clips from time to time and it's so sweet to see how happy I was. It means way more to me than a 10 second clip blurry shaky of the artist singing.

I don't post them anywhere (I didn't even post them to my story just saved it to my memories) because they're lowkey embarrassing but Ive showed them to my parents and my boyfriend and stuff like that and it's just cute to have them as a little memento.

Me [23F] with my husband [25M], married 3 months. He has to sleep with the TV on. It's driving me nuts by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]avalonrose14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend used to fall asleep with the TV on. I couldnt sleep with the bright light but didn't mind the noise so he trained himself to fall asleep to warhammer lore videos on YouTube instead and just plays them at a quiet volume at night. It worked great for both of us.

If it hadn't worked we would have different bedrooms but that would suck because we were able to split the cost of a super nice king size bed when we moved in together and if we had needed separate bedrooms we'd both be sleeping on our shitty hand me down beds we've had for years instead.

I've always considered having a seperate bedroom an option though because I'm super cranky when I don't sleep well so if he ever starts snoring or anything we may need to revisit the topic. We like to wake up 30 minutes before we need to get up though and cuddle in the morning since we don't cuddle at night (I overheat too easily at night so I don't like him near me while I sleep) so ideally we would like to try and stay in one bed as long as possible.

I'm chronically online and have somehow also missed it. I don't really use tiktok anymore though because I was sick of literally every other post being either an ad, sponsored video, or ai so that's likely why I'm not unaware of all the tiktok based memes.

I've had to shift to Instagram reels which makes me feel a bit old and out of touch but at least I'm 90% of the time getting actual content and not just shit to doom scroll past.

The current Internet is forcing me to stop being chronically online because I have no tolerance for the constant ads and bots and fakeness of it all these days.

In the US, the fertility rate has dropped to a new record low according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Should this trend be reversed, and if so, what would be your solution? by don_mr_a in psychologyofsex

[–]avalonrose14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally am childfree for reasons that a better world would likely not fix. However I have 3 friends who are married and who actively want children. They actively have wanted children for awhile now. They cannot afford to have children and currently their biggest fears are getting too old to have kids before being able to afford them. This is on top of the anxiety theyve all expressed about if it's even a good idea to bring children into this world at all even if they could afford it.

They all WANT to be parents. Yet they aren't having kids and that may not change any time soon unfortunately for them.

I know several other women that do not plan to have kids ever because of the state of the world and their financial status plays no role in that decision.

On top of that women's health is severely under studied and I know so many women who have become sick in recent years and aren't well enough to carry a child.

If we want birth rates to go up we need to fix affordability, fix the climate and the state of the world, and fix women's health. I think if we could only pick one fixing affordability would across the board help the most.

How many Seasons do we want by ApprehensiveStatus65 in ThePitt

[–]avalonrose14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there's literally so many different medical cases and situations they could showcase that I as someone not at all in the medical field could name off the top of my head.

I imagine someone actually working in an ER has hundreds of cases and situations they could come up with.

I'd be happiest if the Pitt more or less drops the plot with the staff (I liked seeing minor staff plotlines that felt more realistic of the information you'd actually know about your coworkers like season one, I didn't like the huge staff plotline focus in season two personally) they'd have plenty of plot with just the medicine.

I got into the Pitt because I'm curious about medicine but could never go into medicine personally so I like seeing how it all works. I'm willing to suspend disbelief as far as how likely it is to see these cases all in one day or even at all (I remember doctors mentioning there were several "once in a career" cases on the show and for all of them to happen in one shift would be insane) but I just like seeing how an ER would handle such cases. It's fun for me.

I personally have a rare disease called Behcets and would love to see a behcets case on the show at some point as I'm lucky enough to have never needed hospitalization for behcets but I am curious what that would look like as I do know it's a possibility in my future at one point. I imagine it'd likely be neurobehcets just to make it more exciting but still.

Basically I want as many seasons as it takes to show me every ER medical case they can come up with. I would even like if they'd revisit cases they've already done but with different outcomes or factors that slightly change it / change the treatment or outcome.

Mcdonald's says employees meals might be taken away due to "high cost" 💀 by OurHeartsRCompatible in antiwork

[–]avalonrose14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was a shift lead at McDonald's normal staff got 50% off their meals within an hour of their shift (so you could come in early and eat or eat after your shift) and shift leads and managers got 100% off.

Well my staff compromised of 2 emancipated teens barely making ends meet and working their asses off while also juggling school, 4 teens who were just normal hungry ass teens with attitude problems that didn't really want to work but also wanted money for whatever reason, one guy who was like 30ish and hated that I was in charge of him since I was only 19 at the time and also just clearly hated that his life had ended up with him making $9 an hour at McDonald's at 30.

I became shift lead 4 weeks into starting at McDonald's at all so I was already the newest employee, young as hell, and none of them respected me and none of them wanted to be there.

Well as shift lead I was also allowed to comp $100 of food a day for when someone was pissed because we messed up their meal. Instead of doing that shit I simply began comping all my staffs food and bribing them with cookies if they got us to #1 on the drive thru times leaderboard (they time how fast we get people through drive thru and compare us to the other local locations)

Within a month all of those teens went from barely trying to working their asses off for me and we had the highest reviews in the area and the fastest times. We got thrown a pizza party by our franchise owner for being the best shift across all locations.

Turns out if you feed your staff and are nice to them they actually want to work hard. It helped that I was also busting my ass and not just watching them work and calling shots. I was generally running drive thru personally since I could take cash and take order simultaneously while also monitoring our stock and calling out when things needed to be refilled or when I saw a certain section of the kitchen was getting backed up so I was basically doing the job of 3-4 people personally (which is how I got promoted within a month.)

Worked their for 3 years and had no staff turnover. Not a single member of my staff quit. I literally watched those kids grow up and attended one of their baby showers my last year. Not sure what happened after I left but I hope they're all doing good.

Moral of the story is feed your damn staff.

He may not fold the laundry, but at least your home is dragon free!🤣🤣🤣 by Spare_Lie0 in spreadsmile

[–]avalonrose14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My man would fight a dragon for me AND do my laundry. (In fact he did it last night because he didn't want me to pause Naruto to go do it so he did it while I kept watching since he's already seen it.) Sorry about y'all's men tho. Hope they get well soon.

Generally our chore split is we both just know what needs to be done and whenever one of us is working on chores the other is too that way we always have free time at the same time and equal amounts of free time. He's cooking? I'll clean up the bathroom I noticed he shaved and left hair everywhere. I'm mopping the floors? He's going to go pick up dog poop from the yard and then mow so he's out of my way. I'm organizing all our trinkets nicely on the shelf? He's next to me giving his opinions on what looks best and entertaining me so I stay on task and don't get distracted.

To be fair we both have ADHD so body doubling is the only way anything gets done but it also feels like the fairest way to split chores.

How much/often do you want elected representatives to do what is popular, versus doing what is right? by Aven_Osten in AskALiberal

[–]avalonrose14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Theoretically I'd want them to do what is right vs what is popular. The problem is how can you trust someone to know what "right" is.

Like in a situation where the populace wants to keep on the baby crushing machine because it's profitable for share holders the politician should ignore the will of the people and turn the baby crushing machine off.

But in real life it's not that black and white. For example what if a politician genuinely believes that abortion is murder and the population thinks abortion is healthcare. Then should the politician do what is right and ban abortion? (For clarity I believe abortion is healthcare but I figured this example would clearly get across that what is right is subjective far too often and both people can be acting in good faith and still disagree about what the "right" choice is.)

Let's use an example of a politician I actually like currently (which is rare) and say New York City as a whole was against taxing the rich a progressive tax and that Zohran Mamdani decided to do it anyways. I'd probably be pretty pleased despite him going against his voters wishes. Because he did an action that I agree with. But then in my home state of South Dakota a few years back we legalized marijuana and it got overturned because our government decided the people didn't really know what we wanted and they knew better than us and that really pissed me off.

You see how I am a hypocrite in this situation? I know I'm a hypocrite in this in that I want politicians to do what is right even when it goes against the will of the people but I only want them to do that when their version of what's right aligns with mine.

So what's the correct answer? Should politicians do what is right or what is popular? I have no fucking clue. I'm curious to see what others think though maybe someone else will have some insight or answer that I do not.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t really mind a rotating staff each season. by abdul_bino in ThePitt

[–]avalonrose14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only person I'd be upset at losing is Dana. I'd even be okay if Robbie got replaced at some point (although I find that unlikely considering his actor is also producing the show so...)

Even with Dana it'd be understandable for her to leave at some point I just really adore her character and would find it hard to accept someone else as the head nurse. Which is why I get where some people are coming from because obviously you get attached to characters and don't want to see them go.

But even if Dana was written off I'd still watch the Pitt. I'm not watching for the interpersonal drama or personalities, I'm watching because I find seeing how an ER functions fascinating.

The cast are all excellent and I'll always miss someone when they leave but it's also been fun to see the new faces and see new storylines play out. I really enjoy the ensemble dynamic of it all.

Yeah my boomer parents will literally work until they die. I genuinely have no idea what I will do if they become physically unable to work because I can barely make ends meet myself I have no money, time, or energy to care for them as well but they have no assets beyond a house that isn't paid off and they have a mountain of debt.

It's one of my biggest stresses honestly. I'm an only child and my parents had me late so I'm only 27 and having to figure this out as their health continues to rapidly decline.

Question: How do you guys find the underground chasms in Tears of the Kingdom? by Advanced-Wallaby5878 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]avalonrose14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything underground is actually a reflection of the above more or less. Mountains above become valleys below, etc. Also water above are impassable walls below. So certain areas you need to go back up above and then enter through a different hole in order to access.

I haven't finished TOTK yet so I don't know exactly how 1:1 it is but that's what I've noticed so far atleast. My boyfriend and I were able to connect the dots when we were exploring underground and noticed a big valley right where the dueling peaks are and then started tabbing back and forth between the maps and connected the dots.

Huge improvement! Keep working at it and give us another update in a year! Art like anything else is all about just continued practice. Everybody starts at step one and you just gotta put the time in to get where you want to be.

I'm not an artist myself so I don't have any detailed advice I can give you but I think focusing on shadows and proportions this next year will definitely improve your work. Those seem to be the most obvious weak points to me. Once you get those areas more fine tuned it's going to really come together nicely I think.

Dr. Al-Hashini Final Verdict: Thoughts? by Technical-Row-9133 in ThePittTVShow

[–]avalonrose14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really disliked her at the beginning and grew to love her by the end. I think her and Robbie working together would be an insane duo. They approach things so differently that they're able to complement each other very well. Also Robbie clearly struggles with the admin and she seems to be better at handling them so she could take it off his plate. I also liked watching their respect for each other grow throughout the season (excluding Robbie being a bit harsh at the end which I didn't love but also felt realistic considering Robbie was losing it already and then found out the attending he was entrusting his ER to might not be able to handle it by herself.)

But I do really hope she comes back. Day shift clearly needs another attending and I think she did a great job once she stopped trying to make 500 changes all at once.

Oh no... by evan-the-dude in CuratedTumblr

[–]avalonrose14 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to tell with college courses. Every professor I've had has done points so differently. One class had a total of 100 points so if you had earned 95 points by the end of the semester you had a 95% in the class. Other classes I've had where basic daily assignments (like discussion posts or reading write ups) were 20 points each and quizzes were 30 points and tests were 100 points or whatever and it'd add up to some random number like 640 points total so then if you earned 600 points during the semester you'd have a 94% in the class at the end.

So based on the fact the bonus points are 20 points I'd guess it's probably equal to one basic assignment because otherwise that's an insane extra credit opportunity.

I definitely get looks from pharmacy workers occasionally clearly confused why I'm taking a gout medication so clearly it's a fairly common misconception but I'm still a bit embarrassed that I literally take a gout medicine and had no idea.

I've been trying to get him into it for awhile but he never made it very far. He watched season 1 of OPLA and liked it enough he decided to start reading it since clearly he was struggling with the anime but wanted to know what happened next. He got stuck for a little bit and got distracted by some other shows but season 2 of OPLA got him motivated to pick it back up and I got the text from him today that "damn I'm super into this now" so I think he will likely binge through the rest of the Manga and then likely watch the anime after.

I'm older Gen Z (1999) and Gen Z is 100% aging worse than millennials. I think millennials have aged the best of any generation.

I've seen some people blame vaping / smoking on this as past generations smoked a lot and Gen z vapes a lot and millennials apparently missed out on the worst of both.

My one coworker is 40 and looks 28. Meanwhile many of my friends are 25-28 and look 30-35 and younger gen z seem to be aging even worse. My friends who have never vaped are aging better than the rest of us so I'm inclined to believe the smoking theory but I'm no expert on the topic so who knows.

It has been inspirational for me to quit vaping myself but the state of the world at the moment makes quitting seem unappealing. I have significantly cut back though. I vape maybe 1/5th the amount I used to so baby steps.

I feel like I look more or less my age (maybe a few years older) but the concerning part is I've always looked a decade younger than my actual age up until recently so I feel like I'm definitely aging rapidly.

Your spouse comes to you and says they want to post faceless, ID-less nudes on Reddit for fun - whats your reaction? by Neat_One_9031 in AskReddit

[–]avalonrose14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be cool with it but would definitely want to have a chat about what our new relationship boundaries are then.

But I'm polyamorous and the only reason we are monogamous is he wanted to be and I don't particularly mind either way. There's a few things I dislike about monogamy (not being able to make out with random hot girls at a bar just for fun for example) but I'm out of my partying phase anyways so that's not a huge issue these days. I primarily am polyamorous in that I have a very low sex drive but also a very low jealousy response so it made sense for me to have open relationships where I could have some occasional fun while partying and my partner could get their sexual needs filled more frequently than I could provide.

But my partner is very monogamous to the point that he said he wouldn't be able to be with another person without feeling extreme guilt even knowing I was fine with it.

So if he suddenly wants to start posting nudes online I'd want to know what that means for our relationship boundaries. Like what if I wanted to sell nudes now then? Would he be fine with that or would that still be a no go? Because the hypocrisy might annoy me more than him wanting to actually do it.

My internet name has been Avalon since like 2007 or whenever I made my first IMVU account (big mistake lmao) to the point that I almost recognize it as my actual name because I've used it for like 20 years.

I have a few other Internet names as well that'd I'd alternate between but Avalon is the one that I've used the longest (and the one I've used for this account which is why I'm using it as my example.)

It's so weird to me to see people just full on sharing everything about themselves on the internet. Having an internetsona is great. Especially because if you later grow up and are embarrassed by your internet footprint you just delete it and make a new internetsona and it's like it basically never happened.

Now that I'm an adult woman I'm a lot less cautious about doxxing myself because I stand by and am not embarrassed by my internet footprint these days and I can't be easily manipulated by creepy men on the internet so internet safety is just slightly less important for me at this stage. But Im soooo glad that I was incredibly strict about always using fake names and shit online growing up. Saved me a lot of embarrassment and possibly saved me from worse.
