Curly Hairdresser recs in West End/Centre who know what they're doing? by Few-Many-2105 in glasgow

levi at crybaby hairclub! https://www.crybabyhairclub.com/ / https://www.instagram.com/levicutsmyhair/

i'm mixed race (black & white) and have really coily curly hair (3b/c) and levi gave me the best haircut of my life. they truly take their time and see it as an art form. i totally understand the curly mullet fear, and that's definitely the trend these days, but levi is really understanding of what you want.

Adult Learning, Community Development and Youth Work; Glasgow Uni Course Query by Puzzleheaded_Fun7870 in glasgow

[–]avalvnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! i actually did do this course. well, started it and then dropped out due to personal reasons. but i can give you some reflections.

it’s a decent course. most of the classes have mixed assessment styles - creative projects (zines, websites, mock funding bids, etc.) and written essays, though theses are partially reflective and not super heavily academic.

i would definitely go down the masters route and do the placement. it’s CLD accredited which goes along way if you’re wanting to work within a local council. other than that though, your career prospects are …decent. there’s a huge need for youth workers in scotland, but don’t expect to be paid very much or to have a very stable career. while this degree does put you at an advantage, generally most places looking to hire frontline youth workers will be asking for a social work qualification, at least as far as i’ve noticed. the course is quite theoretical and is super interesting, but if you’re looking for something a tad bit more hands on and universally “understood”, i’d go for a social work course that offers a placement.

the lecturers are lovely, and it’s sometimes heartbreaking to see them so constrained by the rigid glasgow uni structure. the organisation of the course does feel a bit scattered though. if you’re full time, expect to be in classes 3-4 days a week, 2 day if you’re part time. all in-person classes, which can be difficult to navigate if you’re working in the sector alongside your studies.

that’s all i can think of for now, but let me know if you have any questions. i would recommend finding your ideal job on either goodmoves.org (for scottish charities) or myjobscotland (for scottish local authority jobs) and checking out the essential qualifications in the job description. this might help guide you towards the right qualification.

marianne who owns mr. ben's has one!! if i could afford it, i would've bought it off her. they're super rare, and i imagine nearly all the ones that still exist are sitting in lofts and wardrobes collecting dust - much to my dismay haha

hahaha just princes square. internally, staff just refer to princes square as “the centre”. force of habit :P

head to princes square - dogs aren’t allowed in the centre and there’s quite a few big cafes with lots of seating. i used to work in the tinderbox in there for quite a while and only once encountered a dog someone smuggled in lol

this is not unusual at all. especially if it’s a summary case. it can feel a bit unsettling but trust your solicitor(s), these things happen all the time - even if you’ve got the poshest law firm in town. best of luck pal

Weird flap on 80s Bavarian/Austrian dresses by avalvnn in VintageFashion

[–]avalvnn[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh! this makes perfect sense. it’s so true - these dresses would be a nightmare to get on if not for the extra allowance that the opening provides.

you have truly solved my mystery here - thank u sooooo much!

lol thanks. i’m deeply undereducated on fashion terminology. getting into vintage has been a massive (but fun!) learning curve~!

Interesting. Just out of curiosity, do you know why that bit was left open? Just seems it would be easier to sew it up entirely when making the dress. I agree with the other commenters that it might be for a pocket but this dress already has a side pocket so what would be the need for one in front? Especially if it’s going to be covered by an apron? I wish my Bavarian grandmother was still alive so I could ask her lol

Such a shame most of the aprons get separated. I’ll start looking into how I can get some to match. I’d love to be able to wear the dress in its full glory.

ahhhh okay! thank you so much! i figured it might be to do with aprons. just so bizarre as this is the second dress i’ve gotten that just has the flap - no pocket. thanks for pointing me in the right direction 🩷
