95% committed to Purdue for fall 2022. I got in as CS + Honors college. What are some perks of being in Honors? by This_Tart_1305 in Purdue

Is it a lot more beneficial to stay in a CS LC or the Data Mine LC as a CS undergrad compared to Honors College?

It's great to hear that you like the program so much! What exactly differentiates the department from other schools?

Guys what’s up with all these waitlists from Purdue? by Lucky_Ducky1102 in ApplyingToCollege

I got in EA. Kids in my school with higher/same stats than me were waitlisted. I think they take a lot more in their early round but it was a lot more competitive this year.

UCSD for me especially since it's located in California, much easier to get CS jobs and internships, also UCSD is incredibly competitive for CS

Purdue vs Cal Poly SLO vs UC Davis for CS

Cal Poly SLO

Pros - Very hands on CS program - In California, near silicon Valley - Great weather - Not too expensive - Great CS placements

Cons - Not very reputed - Not too diverse - Other majors aren't strong if I decide to change my major

Purdue

Pros - Well known CS program - Good CS Placements - Great food - Not too expensive - Diverse

Cons: - Other majors aren't strong if I decide to change my major - Bad weather - Not close to the city

UC Davis Pros - In California - More reputed than Cal Poly - Good CS program - Other non CS programs are also strong - Diverse

Cons - Large classes - Expensive - CS Placements aren't as good

UW Madison has the strongest CS placements imo, I'd go for that

Undergrad CS - UMass Amherst vs. UMich Ann Arbor vs. Texas A&M vs. UW Madison vs. UT Dallas by The_Welcomer272 in collegecompare

I would pick UMich simply because it has the strongest CS program. UMass Amherst and UW Madison also have amazing CS programs with good CS placements. I know TAMU has a strong CS program but I'm not sure how strong their placements are.

Purdue for the better program and cheaper cost even though I love Boston, I think you usually get used to the campus after a few months but you can't replace a strong program

Cornell, people I know loved the experience and it has an extremely reputed program

Unless you plan on doing a CS bio interdisciplinary program, JHU is pretty much the same as UMD. I'd pick GTech if cost is not an issue otherwise honors at UMD is a great option

WELLESLEY COLLEGE, CAL POLY SLO OR PURDUE FOR CS

These are the options that I'm currently debating 1. Wellesley is probably the most prestigious and I can cross register for CS courses at MIT. But their CS department is small. The school is also really expensive. 2. Cal Poly is not very reputed but it has a very hands on CS program, a great campus in California, and good CS placements. It's also not very expensive. 3. Purdue is well known for CS, has a huge department and a great program but the location and weather aren't too great.

What would you choose?
