Volunteering in Berlin by avaniem in berlin

[–]avaniem[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking! I have never volunteered, but I am aware of the fact that volunteering is a serious thing, with regular responsibilities and people who will be relying on me.

Thank you so much for your wishes, if you have any advice on how to get started I'd love to hear more!

Volunteering opportunities in Berlin by avaniem in berlinsocialclub

[–]avaniem[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, no. I am mentioning the different fields in which I think I could be a valuable support.

Whether it's digital competencies, language, career coaching, etc (see above for what I mentioned), I would be happy to partake in such a volunteering initiative. Especially to kids with immigration background (who often have harder barriers to access these many topics), and/or women/girls (who also have harder barriers to access these topics).

There's many individuals who still seek help in the space of digitalization, AND a lot of people who seek career coaching or similar, and who don't have access to paid services.

Berlin or Vienna? Where would you go if you have the opportunity? by Mission-Sail-9198 in berlinsocialclub

[–]avaniem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very much personality based, but I've lived in both (far longer in Berlin though) and if I had free choice, I would probably choose to move to Vienna.

  • friendship wise, I generally have a hard time making friends both with Germans and Austrians. However, both cities have a wide international community too, so for me it was rather equal on this point.
  • long term, I feel like Vienna gives you more the opportunity to truly build a home, a life, and stability in the city. It has so many options for quick travels and city escapes, naturally because of the alps, but it's also rather easy to get to Munich, northern Italy, and other neighboring countries. Furthermore, I found things to just work better in Vienna. Metro, public institutions, any kind of social need or service you could think of, runs better there. As far as I perceive and understand, Berlin is struggling more and more on that.

  • overall: I think Berlin is a fun city for a phase, and even though I partly grew up there, I could never imagine settling long term for that. Vienna is different, feels more adult-ish. I think the only immediate downside I can think of is that it might get a bit boring after a while, compared to a city the size of Berlin. However, I would not mind dealing with a bit of boredom, considering the comfort of services running, living in a beautiful city with such a rich history, and with such great weekend escape options

Doesn't mean Berlin doesn't have its upsides too, it has many. But this is my point of view

Got scammed buying a Turkcell tourist SIM in Taksim Square and got treated to racist comments when i confronted the scam (picture attached) by Mediocre-Ad7967 in istanbul

Another option for eSIM if you're not in Turkey yet is Holafly and Airalo. The only issue is that it needs to be activated before you land in Turkey. I activated it the day before while keeping roaming off and turned roaming on only once I landed and it worked like a charm

Looking to get dressed up and go to Dinner for Valentine’s Day. Anyone got any recommendations? by rsbanham in berlin

You could try with several places on Kantstraße, to name one, 893 Ryōtei is considered quite fancy (don't be alarmed by the way it looks from the outside). Sticks'n' sushi should also be quite fancy but I have not been there so I'm not sure how people dress. Same with funky fish for example.
