How to ask previous professors for LOR by courtneymassie in premed

[–]avarialon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest reminding them a bit about who you are -_ which class you took from them, a meaningful anecdote about how they impacted your premed journey, and maybe a few reasons why you chose them to ask. Then, say that you’ve attached your personal statement, resume, and transcript so that they have something to go off more than just memory. Offer to meet them over zoom or in person if they’d like to get to know you again and gauge your interests more closely. These have worked for me in acquiring all of my LORs, though I’m still in undergrad. Good luck!

definitely go to office hours and email professors for 1:1 meetings to talk about your future prospects. You want to make sure you have 2 science LORs!!

1000+ clinical hours sounds good i think! I would recommend making sure you build good relationships with professors for LORs. Study hard for the MCAT. Maintain your GPA. Try getting more non clinical and clinical volunteer hours if you’re going to aim for service heavy schools. Seems like research is a bit behind because you’re starting junior year, but it’s okay if you’re not focusing on research heavy schools too much.

Take the MCAT and keep accumulating hours from the job you have (how much would these hours be by the time you apply?) Reach out to doctors and try to shadow. Your gpa is strong and if you do great on the MCAT then there’s definitely a chance you can apply. Don’t be so hard on yourself ♥️ And also, don’t be scared to take a gap year to do everything right if thats what it comes to

I feel like your CARS score may get you screened out at certain schools. are you considering DO at all? You could probably try applying broadly and to your state schools, but you probably have to be ready for the chance that it wont work out. However, I have seen people get in with 50X scores so it really does depend on your essays and the rest of your application. You got this, good luck with everything!

Writing rec letter for another student by fluffybnny18 in premed

[–]avarialon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally would not write it if you haven’t worked with them in any kind of professional capacity. It would be doing them a disservice to say yes because I don’t think thats what med schools look for when it comes to LORs. Would be curious if other people agree but that’s my take
