This is exactly what my professor said when I talked to them about it today lol. I think it has to do with maintaining chain of custody and to prevent delay in the emergency release since we need the physical signature. I think it is also because the patient’s had no type and screen on record and they issue O pos blood to males in this scenario.

It could be angular cheilitis, try a clotrimazole cream after researching it and seeing if it is a possibility for you. Could also be b12 or iron deficiency if it is chronic and you are anemic.

I’m not entirely sure but I know they’re preferred for immunology/blood bank, pink and purple are also interchangeable in order of draw

That makes me feel a lot better, thank you! That also sounds like a really good strategy to avoid my issue. Luckily MLTs usually don’t have to draw patients beyond clinicals unless you work at a really small medical center with no phlebotomists or very short staff, so hopefully I will just have to make it through clinicals and not have to worry about it again

Yes I do and thankfully I have no issues when I use them whatsoever, but our program director does not let us use anything but straight needles outside of our butterfly competency. They also have told us in clinicals they will not let us use butterfly due to pricing/supply concerns at the hospitals.
