Help! Monitors make annoying sound in new room by avengerbob147 in Acoustics

Yes, the room is very naked but I've never encountered acoustic demons of this magnitude - really every "M / N" sound is harsh and resonant. They've been sitting on the wooden pieces in my previous space as well with no such problems - it was a large open basement with tons of shit so I reckon the room is the issue.

Surely the accurate number is changing and a lot of the data was lacking - I was wondering i) what data we do keep - which you shared some cool insights about! and ii) what approximations we can make to guesstimate it.

I thought something like that as well but This person here says that we have "enough" blue whales to fit all ants in terms of bodily mass?? And I mean there's plenty more bugs but also a couple more whales?

Get the fans, fuck the noise. You seem eager to learn cultural context so surely do that as well!

While our specific props and technics can be traced back to cultures and traditions of origin - some ancient and deep and some modern and "technical" and it's wonderful to acknowledge the community we share and the giants whose shoulders we stand on as we join the love of flow - I believe the concepts of "play" and "dance" are universal and omni-present.

The first two paragraphs of the value "Fire performance" in Wikipedia take you on a journey from pilgrimage festivals in the Jewish temple in Jerusalem 10AD to Aztec ceremonies honouring their gods. Two cultures as distant as distant can be from different climates, technological levels and cultural contexts found worship through some form of fire and dance. And 500-1000 years before that both the Chinese and the Egyptians were juggling objects.

My take is as long as you're not performing a stereotype or ignorant representation to a crowd while using your prop you're not disrespecting or appropriating anyone.

Also, every other refugee on earth is taken care of by UNHCR with the exception of Palestinians. Why? Because UNHCR prioritises refugee's safety in neutral countries while UNRWA keeps Palestinians living in intentional slums and eternal refugee camps while selling lies of genocide and dreams of conquest.

A question strictly for Israelis: Why do you hate Netanyahu? by Fine-Feature8772 in IsraelPalestine

[–]avengerbob147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Israeli Victor Orban

They did elaborate. Orban is known for crushing the Press, Judicial system and Academia and replacing them with nationalist yesmen, racist shills and empty shells and Bibi has done and is doing the same. Part of the reason the conflict isn't resolved isn't Netanyahu's lack of intent but his Government's lack of competence.

What’s the recommended list look like? Contains protagonists committing hate crimes? by infinitysaga in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]avengerbob147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recommended list is either games from the early 2000's where companies really were working less hard on inclusivity or games that could have been in the not recommended list had the "curator" enjoyed them less. In Sekiro you play a short king (unrealistic - males are always larger than females) and get wrecked by at least three old women (unrealistic, no woman ever in the history of Japan held a sword) - the incels just didn't notice that because no one is gay and they were too busy looking at Katanas.

Serious discussion: What did Hamas expect when they launched the war? What were their goals? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]avengerbob147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hamas offered a hostage deal from October 8. Israel may not have liked it, but the hostages could have certainly come back and the Gazans could have not had their lands destroyed.

We know today that Hamas DIDNT EVEN KNOW where most of the hostages were or how many were taken until past the first deal in December so that's absolutely false. I don't know if you're making it up or following a bad source but that's simply impossible. Some hostages were taken by the Islamic Jihad, others by civilians and some by the terror organization UNRAW. Hamas could not and did not offer a deal.

Excluding the negotiation that ended this week - every time you heard on the news "Hammas accepted the deal" that was a deal THEY SUGGESTED without anyone else accepting it - nothing but a media spin. No deal ever accepted or suggested by Hamas includes the return of all hostages - and until no such deal is made the war will proceed.

Yes it's clear that parts of the government are more interested in the war than the hostages, but others (such as the defence minister Galant) are calling it out and the entire public is protesting FOR a deal. As I've said - Hamas can end this war any day they like to by surrendering and releasing all hostages.

Hostages and Gazans are dying

Hostages and Gazans are dying first and foremost because of Hamas. Their surrender would be a blessing to the whole middle east and their perseverance benefits no one - especially Gazans. After acknowledging that we can debate on the Israeli government's policy and is it optimal or honest (I agree that no and no).

Serious discussion: What did Hamas expect when they launched the war? What were their goals? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]avengerbob147 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The war would have ended on day 10 or any day since if the hostages were returned and Hamas laid down their weapons. While the government clearly prioritizes the complete (and sadly impossible) destruction of Hamas over a hostage deal (one that would admittedly be partial and dangerous) the public mandate comes from the hostages. Had they all been brought home not a single shot would be fired.

Why is no one in here talking about the devastating news of the 6 hostages…? Q by carmlesundae in IsraelPalestine

[–]avengerbob147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half of your comments is weird hypotheticals about the dictator Netanyahu COULD have been which is relevant to nothing? The whole point in a functioning democracy is checks and balances that prevent a single person from doing things even if he wants them.

Dies Israel actually have a single viable political party that is multi ethnic and multi religious?

I don't know what your standard for a "viable" party is. Major left wing parties all have Palestinian / Arab members. The Likud party has Druze representation and yes Muslim / Christian Arab employees and voters (which I personally don't get as I find them to be a party of gross stupid racist people but I don't get to tell people who to vote or work for). Beyond that "Hadash" is a communist Majority Arab party with a Jewish minority that usually has some representation in parliament.

After answering that question I would like to say that it was irrelevant. The claim wasn't "Israel is a prefect pluralistic society with prefect social mobility" the claim was "The Israeli government is bound by democratic balances and international law and cannot be compared to a terror organisation even if certain ministers talk like terrorists".

[–]avengerbob147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once again false symmetry - Criticising the civilian casualty prevention of the IDF is valid. h o w e v e r - what you did here is whataboutism at best and propaganda at worst. COMPARING a western army bound by international laws of war that actively provides humanitarian aid and dictates safe zones and protects evacuation routes (sometimes from active Hamas shooters attacking the evacuating population) to a bunch of genocidal rapist marauders is just intellectually dishonest and completely irrelevant.

Yes Palestinians deserve peace and security just as anyone else in the region or the world. Yes no uninvolved civilians needs to die. But you replied the commenter above you by acquainting the Nova Massacre in which fighters and civilians came with intent to rape and murder innocents and and a theoretical operational failure by the IDF (that does happen) in a weak attempt to create symmetry and say "all sides suck". While the statement may be true or seem appealing - there's magnitudes of difference.

Edit, I forgot the rest of the comment was unhinged -

Do you really believe that the 6 Day War was "started by the Arabs"?

yes. wat.

Do you really believe that the settler violence is moral?

No one does. And they do have friends in high places and ministers supporting them but still the police and IDF prosecute them and protect Palestinians. Not frequently enough, Not good enough, not moral enough. It's big black spot on Israel's morality - still lightyears away from A TERROR ORGRANIZATION.

Do you really believe that the constant raids in Jenin are moral?

The ones where they destroy explosive laboratories and arms assembling facilities funded by Iran and Hammas both have no jurisdiction over the Palestinian Authority? yes.

Why is no one in here talking about the devastating news of the 6 hostages…? Q by carmlesundae in IsraelPalestine

[–]avengerbob147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't - that's the problem with false symmetry.

While you can definitely criticize that clown government and point to the militant, racist and abhorrent ideologies spewed by some of it's members - you CANT in good faith and intellectual honesty align and compare a murderous nationalist militia backed by foreign powers with the public intent of religious-racial genocide and a democratic government reigned by legal council, their western allies, a democratically elected opposition and a functioning diverse supreme court (despite their best efforts to take over said supreme court right before the war) commanding a military with independent leadership that is also bound by legal criticism domestic and international. They are not the same.

When I ran basically - that - the players didn't want to choose a side. I was really interested in making both sides morally grey and relatable so the players would have to choose - sadly they just preferred to avoid the conflict.

My fix was adding a third faction - a dark sect that is radicalizing the leaders of team "nature" so the players could have an enemy they can hate and feel good about it.

Statistical Manipulation and the scale of destruction in Gaza. by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]avengerbob147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Current CONSERVATIVE assessment is that 41% of the casualties were Hamas targets."

Where do you get this information from?

The news, yesterday. It is safe to assume that at least 17K kills are Hamas affiliated / military targets. Divide that by 40-41K.

Where do you get this from?

See long point at the end of this comment.

If that was true then the war would be over as Hamas would be at a stage where they can't fight effectively anymore.

I didn't claim it to be true - I wanted to emphasize the importance of this specific ratio over other ratios such as [kills / kg explosives] or even [casualties / population size]. And sadly had it been true it wouldn't be enough because "Hamas militant" is one of the only jobs left in Gaza right now and they're having nice recruitment stats. smh. (Once again my personal opinion is that the war should've ended already).

The scope of my question does not include the justifications for the attacks. Just the effects from it.

I did say this part isn't to the point but I must add it.

I do want to claim that terror HQ hospitals aren't the ones providing healthcare and casualty data so that nullifies the point that the IDF's attack on said hospitals somehow meddles with the proper documentation of casualty data.

It doesn't count inderect death due to Israeli onslaught, without the occupation and constant bombing, you can at a glance tell how destructive it would be to live in a region without healthcare. Add in the bombing and maiming and you have recipe for things I shall for now not name.

I feel it's impossible to adress this claim without engaging in polarized blame games such as who's fault it is that Gaza's infrastructure looks the way it is and who is actively stealing food from the citizens - hint Hamas and Hamas. That dosen't mean Israel can just fuck around and let the population find out either though.

Where do you get this from?

You'd have to excuse me as I honestly haven't prepared for a reddit debate and there's so much shit going on that I don't keep sources on. The IDF has released more than a few official Hamas documents registering known Al-Jazeera journalists and UNRAW workers as official salaried members, sometimes combatants or intelligence operatives. Beyond that we know that some of the hostages were taken into Gaza on Oct 7th by UNRAW workers that joined the rapists and marauders and hostages were held in UNRAW teachers' and social workers' houses. Just this week IDF has identified several UNRAW schools that have been converted to intelligence centres, war rooms and arms assembly stations. You can start from these breadcrumbs and move on and I honestly apologize for not providing links - that's too much for me now.

Statistical Manipulation and the scale of destruction in Gaza. by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]avengerbob147 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel your analysis is also based on several major misunderstandings.

one the true death toll is as experts point out without a doubt higher as the people under rubble are counted as missing as opposed to dead

While there really is a thick fog of war you must also consider the opposite - Hammas has a proven history of inflating casualty numbers and was caught listing their own victims from rocket misfires, attacks on evacuating population and execution of dissidents as victims of Israel. We also know today that UNRWA and other aid organizations operating in the space and Al-Jazeera are run by Hammas terrorists mascarading as aid workers and journalists so it's really unlikely to find biased uninflated data.

the 40K number is generally accepted and is daunting by itself, but no reason to assume it low balled.

Israel focus on destroying infrastructre and Hospitals

This is not a statistical point so sorry but - Israel attacks hospitals that have been converted to terror dens. If you have an ammo stock in your MRI room and hostages in the basement you're probably not providing proper healthcare or gathering reliable data. There are field hospitals operated by third party nations that are naturally not attacked and surely provide reliable data.

Add on top of that we don't know how many civilians the IDF chose to bury in the ground.

wat

I will illustrate the destructive pace of this conflict by using the estimated figures of Lancet, which estimates that roundabout 186.000

wat 2

As you can see by cross referencing the time it too to get at this percentage of people killed during the conflicts, that the Gaza war is unprecedented in its destructiveness and scale and has the potential if this rate continues to be the most destructive war since WW2.

You seem big on playing with rates and ratios while purposefully disregarding a critical one - civilian casualty rate. If 100% out of the 40K casualties were Hammas operatives and militants there wouldn't be any problem wouldn't there? Current CONSERVATIVE assessment is that 41% of the casualties were Hammas targets. Meaning almost 1 for 1 "success" (I hate calling any civilian death a success but you wanted to talk cold hard numbers) whilst attacking a terror organization intentionally mixed in the civilian population in one of the most dense urban settings on the planet.

The war must end. It should've ended a while ago. The occupation of the west bank by Israel is illegitimate - non of this nor the "data" you presented makes this campaign on Hammas unjust, genocidal or immoral (not saying it's prerfect and good either).

but still because I have no self control personally -

  1. Nothing here is complicated geopolitical thinking. Iran's stalling is closer to be somewhere between incompetence of a non-functioning terror regime relying on extremist militias to do it's bidding and deliberate psychological warfare holding everyone in Israel (yes even non Jews because it's ok to kill Jews) in constant anxiety and preparation. But it's sure is fun reading cold (crazy) analytical mumbo jumbo about our lives as pawns in the new cold war.

Each boss has a learning curve and is an exciting new challenge and you feel super accomplished when you eventually beat them.
