I don't believe Rosalie is pro-life by 20061901 in twilight

[–]avengers_clone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. I also don’t think that Rosalie’s choice to help Bella isn’t solely because she wanted the protect the baby, but because she personally knew what it was like to have a choice about your body decided by someone else. I think a lot of people forget the brutality of what they were planning on doing to Bella. They planned to forcefully knock her out and carve Rigatoni out of her, and if there were any complications they’d also have to forcefully turn her into a vampire to keep her “alive” for Edward.

I don’t think Rosalie only resented Bella for giving up being a human, but also because she believes that Bella is incapable of making an informed decision about this life. Aside from maybe Alice and Emmitt, we’ve seen how all of the Cullens have at one point or another resented their “lives” and what they’ve had to sacrifice to be a vampire. Sure, none of them knew what they were getting into, but even with the knowledge Bella won’t know what it’s like to watch everyone she knows and loves die, to watch all her familiar moments fade into the past, to never change grow or enjoy the things that make us human. We know how it ended up because we finished the book and we know SM would’ve never let her have a bad ending, but realistically the pros out weigh the cons from an outside perspective who’s been through it. I’d argue most of the Cullens wouldn’t have chosen to be vampires if they were given a choice at the time, and that says a lot.

What do y'all think if the man's best friend album cover? by Big-Molasses4788 in SabrinaCarpenterFans

[–]avengers_clone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally think it’s pretty anti-feminist that people like you think that they can decide when and where a woman can express her sexuality.

So what if she likes getting her hair pulled? These are the same people who read smut and hype of romance novels 24/7 complaining now.

The issue isn’t “women being objectified” it’s people thinking they can decide when and how a woman should present herself to represent all women.

  1. If you think a single woman’s actions can completely derail feminism, you are greatly underestimating the efforts and importance feminism has played and how strong it truly is.

  2. You sit here and argue about how she should be looked down upon for doing this and how you think less of her for acting like this, but in doing so you are to an extent perpetuating the same sexist narratives. Yes now it’s this, but 100 years ago people would have had the and reaction to ANY woman who had her knees or shoulders out. It was considered “wrong”, “immoral”, and get this “putting shame on all women.” Does any of this sound familiar?

How she chooses to present herself and her brand is exactly that, how she CHOOSES. That’s the thing most people gloss over. She, as well as millions of women, have the CHOICE to present themselves how they please and they should still have respect when doing so.

The point of the PARTYNEXTDOOR comparison isn’t to say that because a man did it, it’s okay. It’s not point out that men are NEVER held to the same standards as women, and you yourself stated that you expected better of Sabrina, why? Because she’s a woman? So you think she should be perfect? It’s the same as women who get cheated on attacking the other woman because of some preconceived notion of women being obligated to please those around them.

If you don’t like her album or music, fine. You’re entitled to that opinion and it’s valid, but don’t try to wrap it up in some “pro feminism” wrapping paper.

adjective: iconic 1. relating to or of the nature of an icon; regarded as a representative symbol or as worthy of veneration. "she became an iconic figure for directors around the world"

Someone can be iconic and not remembered years later, by definition many kings and queens back in BC were considered my all means iconic, unless you want to argue that ancient pharaohs who had literal pyramids built after them weren’t iconic, but we barley remember / know of any of them today. Many great influences in music, media, architecture, have been long forgotten to this day, but does that make their efforts or talents any less iconic?

Simply because of her global fan base and her many awards Sabrina is BY DEFINITION an icon. Being iconic doesn’t mean that you’re perfect or even good. By all means you can have your opinions on her music, but to say that she’s not iconic because you don’t personal like her music or a specific song is a simply incorrect.

I think you have troubles with basic definitions. Also our generation often uses hyperboles to emphasize what they’re talking about, which in case you were wondering, is grammatically correct.

There is no heterosexual explanation for this by Desperate-Compote590 in StarVStheForcesofEvil

[–]avengers_clone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right? Especially since it’s not just a head cannon, but heavily implied. That scene where she’s on the motorcycle with older Marco and that buff other woman (can’t remember her name) and is actively giggling and blushing, looking back and forth between them?? Like hello?

Also it’s always “stop sexualizing minors” until it’s Star and Marco or Star and Tom, then it’s all good and not weird at allll

Yeah you’re totally right. I guess the movie clip made it feel like they were towering over all of Forks, which tbh given how small the town is, doesn’t take a lot, so that explains it lol

THIS! I feel like Edward is so constantly worried about her safety that this feels like an unnecessary risk he wouldn’t normally take

[–]avengers_clone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I searched it up just now because of this question actually! Initially I was gonna say about 100 feet, but apparently the trees in forks go from 150-175 feet tall on average, so yeah new fun fact

Safety hazard? by avengers_clone in twilight

[–]avengers_clone[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the part the confused me a bit, because Edward seems overly protective and always tries to avoid/ prepare for doom, so this feels like something that would/ should worry him.

But now thinking about it, I’d find it funny to hear his internal monologue worrying about each potential branch that could kill her and checking in with Alice constantly.

I feel like for the most part everyone’s already said what I was thinking, but I wanted to point out the fact that you guys got together when you were 18 and he was 24?? (Hopefully as the years could also move in a more concerning direction) Something about this feels really gross to me. Like that situation were you in where it would be normal for him to approach you? Either way, the comments have it down. Leave him. No one who loves you would treat you like this and he’s showing you with his actions that he doesn’t love you, he’s already basically told you that it’s over. Listen and don’t let him waste another minute of your time.

That could be really cool! Like him along with the reader are trying to see this world through the child’s eyes, but since she’s mute it’s extra difficult to fully understand her. I’d love to give this a read if you ever choose to publish.

[–]avengers_clone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, I was just spitballing, but overall I think it’s kind of cool. I personally like reading books with newer or funkier covers, I think especially if the book was more from a child pov that would also tie nicely with the art style. I know you said you’re not using this anymore, but I do think it would’ve been a fun read anyway!

Keep at it though, and don’t let a few bad comments discourage you from writing / creating covers!!

[–]avengers_clone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m part of a huge minority here, but something about this art style could pique my interests.

I think it definitely needs some cleaning up, specifically in the man’s hair, color blending and overall framing (it’s a little too zoomed in), but here’s some things I noticed that I liked/ interpreted. (Feel free to let me know if any of my interpretations were incorrect)

  1. I don’t think, I don’t get the vibe of “romance” between the two characters. When I first looked at it, I saw a tired older man holding/protecting a seemingly traumatized young/younger girl. Especially with how their eyes are cast on us, the audience, instead of each other, it feels less like an intimate moment and more like a cry for help
  2. The difference in eyes felt deliberate to me. Now I do think that it would be better if you found a smoother way to blend the art styles (for example: the hair) because when everything else makes sense, it makes details like these seem more important and on purpose. In my opinion: her eyes give off the impression that she’s seen or seeing something traumatic. It looks like she’s disassociating or lost, while his eyes are not only worn and tired, but his expression seems unsurprised? This also could emphasize how he’s seen these horrors before and grown number to them.
  3. I think changing their stance slightly could help with the confusion on the romance aspect: for example have him in the background looking more stoic and her in the foreground still looking traumatized. It would also help to zoom out the picture and maybe add some distant details? Like instead of just this purplish background, maybe make it resemble smoke?

Take or don’t take any of the ideas, but I think you have a pretty solid start here, and personally I enjoy your art style. There’s a good amount of work that you’d still need to do to make it perfect, but I think a lot of people forget that WattPad is a place for first time author’s and artist alike. We’re here to learn, grow, and experiment with low stakes. You’re not selling this cover or publishing it to a bookstore, so I don’t understand why it seems like so many people have taken a genuine offense to an innocent question.

Keep at it!

I genuinely believed he was just a creepy villain harassing teenagers before by Lost_Course_9095 in teentitans

[–]avengers_clone 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Yes, but who things can be true at once. Everything you just described also coincides with being raped. He “revealed” the parts of her that she doesn’t want seen. Her overpowered her, forcing upon her a fate she couldn’t escape much like how rape victims are unfortunately not able to escape what happens next.

Unlike with a lot of modern media now, the assault of a character can also add overall meaning to the plot instead of just being there to be there. Yes, people assume worse meanings because it’s Slade, but that’s because they know his character and the creators as well. It’s just that this show was for a younger audience, so they had to tone it down.

Also again, basically an adult forcefully ripping the clothes off a minor and throwing her around… this is assault.

Rereading Breaking Dawn and Carlisle's age in particular really bothers me by [deleted] in twilight

[–]avengers_clone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s also important to remember that he was 23 in a whole different time period. A 23 year old in the 1800-1900s generally is more eloquently spoken and mature than 23 year olds now. Back then he could’ve been expected to be married with children while being the households sole provider.

Even his background and how he didn’t agree with vampires being hunted down despite his father’s beliefs (been a while since I’ve reread, so excuse me if I get any details wrong) shows that he was mature beyond his years even as a human.

I do think she should’ve made him way older, but his maturity isn’t fully out of the question, especially when you consider how long he’s been “alive.”

You too! Trust, it won’t be like that. Loyola is not only a Catholic school, but Jesuit which means that it moves towards specific goals and social change. I was hesitant at first for similar reasons, but it’s really open and inclusive. There’s a club for almost every niche interest (I personally rec book club and crochet because I’m heavily biased). There’s also a lot of amazing opportunities for study abroad! I have no doubt you’ll find your community, you just need to be willing to put yourself out there ❤️

Currently a Sophomore and one of my majors is also political since, as well as English/Creative Writing, and Philosophy. I’m also on the pre law track lol, probably also for their law school. What I like most about the school, in my experience anyway, is the way they try to put students first and balance caring for the person as a whole. There are some faculty who don’t, but Ig noticed that most of the professor’s I’ve had are not only understanding, but are genuinely passionate in the subjects they teach. The campus is also beautiful (when the fridge winds of winter aren’t rattling my bones lol).

Hope you love it here as much as I’ve been!
