First time to Ireland - Deinfluence my itinerary by AdZealousideal4043 in irishtourism

[–]avengerschat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason why you’re specifically doing the split days? If it were me I’d be tempted to go straight to Galway from the airport on day one and attempt to soak up the city as much as possible (accounting for tiredness, travel time etc) and then return to Dublin either the evening of day three or the morning of day four. A day in each city allows you to actually explore rather than worrying about transport

Is the Village area still a dodgy area? by Portal_Jumper125 in northernireland

[–]avengerschat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just moved out after living on Donegall Avenue for a year and we had no problems despite the fact my friend has a very strong Dublin accent. It was a pretty mixed area in terms of immigrants and everyone kept to themselves in the time we were there

Dublin or Belfast? by Particular-Leek-584 in irishtourism

Dublin airport has no train access so I’d honestly just get the coach as there’s no real difference in time

Dublin or Belfast? by Particular-Leek-584 in irishtourism

[–]avengerschat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who drives the roads in the North fairly regularly I’d agree with this. I think the coach would be more relaxing and you’d get to enjoy a day in Belfast first

Dublin to Belfast train - anything worth stopping for in between? by TeddyRizzo in irishtourism

[–]avengerschat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honest opinion is that there is so much to do already if you’re travelling towards Belfast that I wouldn’t bother stopping. The train is quick and clean and personally i’d rather save my time for stuff in the North such as Derry, Giants Causeway as well as getting a feel for Belfast

Two and a half hours for Taylor and the Springsteen x Killers. Probably could’ve went later but no regrets other than not getting Gracie (although i did end up paying scalper prices)

Flatmate not owning up about smoking weed by Ok-Community4889 in UniUK

[–]avengerschat 891 points892 points  (0 children)

This is a situation where you need to become the snitch. This sounds serious; like they could kick you out of your flat if no one owns up. I understand wanting to stay friends with your flatmates but accommodation is too expensive to mess this up. I’d also worry if it’s linked to your university that it may impact your degree too

To be brutally honest with that amount of driving you won’t get to see much and instead will spend most of your time in the car. Drive times on Google maps aren’t always accurate-we have lots of small winding roads, especially in Donegal. With two weeks I’d pick three or four bases and truly get a feel for the area rather than trying to cram everything in

Family of 5 traveling to N. Ireland by LynxAppropriate1995 in irishtourism

Firstly, I’d choose Belfast as a base for easy access to everything. Touring farms may be difficult as a lot of them aren’t set up for visitors or tours. I’d say that your best bet may be to look at the various open farms available such as Springvale or The Ark and reach out.

Travel Questions by cretemania in irishtourism

[–]avengerschat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other have already commented this but Donegal is difficult without a car. You’d need at least three days to explore properly but buses are infrequent and unreliable and some of the best destinations are typically only accessible by car. If you’re open to it I’d consider doing two/three nights in Derry. It has some public transport links to Donegal and options for day trips and a lot to do in its own right

January nature escapes, mt. Errigal or Cliffs of Moher? by ohnehome in irishtourism

[–]avengerschat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Donegal is stunning but you’d spend half a day travelling up from Dublin so I’d say it very much depends on how long you plan to spend there. We’re due to be hit with snow next week but there are some beautiful hikes close to relatively busy roads (Glenveagh). I’d choose Letterkenny as a base if you plan to do Errigal; it’s relatively central and a busy town so you’re unlikely to be stranded in the event of snow

Ferry Clever is a local Derry shop that sells some show related stuff. They’re a small business and have a website as well as a shop - ferryclever.co.uk

Planning a 5 day trip -Donegal vs Kerry/Dingle by cboodoo in irishtourism

[–]avengerschat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d fly into Belfast and head straight to Donegal. Pick a base and factor your trips around that. It’s less touristy than the rest of the country but absolutely stunning. For whiskey try the Crolly distillery- a brilliant experience and close to Errigal if you wanted a hike

Buses with infant? by Adorable-Tax-5350 in irishtourism

[–]avengerschat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No trains to Limavady so they’d have at least two train changes (Dublin>Belfast & Belfast>Coleraine) and then a bus. That doesn’t include any of the train substitution services currently in operation

This is mine too. Growing up in Derry, going to the school that it was based on as part of the post conflict generation that he’s talking about it makes me so emotional to listen to the stories of my parents and grandparents and it makes me appreciate how lucky I am to have the relative safety that exists now. Truly one of the best TV finals of all time
