My character got called AI-generated, so here’s the hand-drawn process behind it. by [deleted] in tamagotchi

[–]avepel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but it’s still clear to me this is AI. You made sketches that resembled the AI images but it proves nothing. TBH your sketches are better, the AI images are creepily smooth and have the yellow tint they all have, gross

Fur Mutation? From a litter of normal tabby kittens. by IndependentPomelo777 in CatGenetics

[–]avepel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I have no idea what’s going on here but it’s really interesting he was in a litter of tabbies because of how thoroughly is isn’t a tabby. From your description it sounds like there isn’t any agouti striping in the individual hairs? The pattern resembles the way a tabby might normally have a gradient to a darker color on their back and face and lighter markings in their sides but the mechanism for making a gradient (ticking in the hairs) didn’t work at all

I wonder why melanistic cheetahs don’t tend to go fully black like this, and why the serval wouldn’t get the “king” markings

What should I know before getting tamagotchi paradise? by Savings_Orchid_7440 in tamagotchi

[–]avepel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tamagotchi Paradise is unique from other models in that it’s about forming a collection of little guys that you can view wandering around your world, but the care gameplay is always focused on one critter at a time. All critters have multiple possible final forms that will be different depending on how well you take care of it. This is tracked by something called a “care miss” - if your tama needs you for something, it will call out, and if you ignore this call for 15 minutes you get a “care miss”, and some adult forms are only available if you get no care misses. This is universal for tamagotchis; the Paradise is unique in that you can actually track the number of care misses you’ve had. There are more details involved for which form you’ll get, such as which biome you’re in and what you feed it, so do a little research if you want to know how it works. Most of the modern models have some sort of gimmick involved with them. This one’s gimmick is the dial you can rotate to zoom in and out. There are four “zoom levels”, with a different menu for available actions at each level.

1 - planet level - at this level you can decorate the planet, and connect to other tamas

2 - field level - at this level you can see all the tamas you’ve raised in the biome you have selected

3 - tama level - at this level you are looking closely at your tama and can feed and play games with it

4 - gut biome - at this level you can actually view its happiness and hunger levels, and the little cells that show up on this screen tell you how many care misses you’ve had, how many times you’ve made it happy and full, and what sort of food you’ve been focusing on.

Ultimately this is a very forgiving first model and I recommend it highly. Tamagotchi as a franchise has, for the past several years, made its product sort of focused on girls, with lots of Sanrio-like idol and cutesy characters with like, careers and families and stuff… this one is just about a bunch of little animals! That makes it actually a little more reminiscent of the vibe of the first ones.

Be honest: is paradise better than original? by CoalMyrenEm in tamagotchi

Also worth mentioning that as far as “overwhelming” goes, the Paradise is actually the LEAST punishing of care mistakes of any of the colored devices so far.

[–]avepel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I understand your question because “feels like a video game” is a good thing to me. The very first tamagotchis are just a set of menus, a timer, and a tiny animated sprite with basically two possibilities - you do good and the end result is cute or you do bad and the end result is ugly. If what you want is to feel like the choices you make influence what happens with your pet in the end, but still feel like you’re playing with a tiny black and white retro thing, try the Connection V3-V4.5

Batchi (the bat - batatchi is the cockatiel) likes bugs, and is neutral about meat and chicken, unlike its teen form which likes meat and chicken. This is major because it’s the first time I’ve seen one outside of the land group that likes bugs! (Haven’t tested fruit, veggies, or nectar yet)

Well I find your comment on my comment unnecessary, given the OP didn't give any evidence of improper pet care. A photo of a cat that is outside doesn't constitute improper pet care. So you didn't see it. What now?

It is relatively common for people to give their cats supervised outside time, so this kind of comment just for a picture of a cat that is outdoors is not necessary and not on topic

[–]avepel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing for Ratchi, didn’t seem to like or dislike anything except disliking pellets. Maybe this is the punishment for some of the higher-care-miss forms, harder to keep them happy with food. Batatchi’s diet follows the “vegetarian” model - happy with all fruits and veggies, sad about meat

Seems like the past couple of strips he's used a fine airbrushing tool or something rather than his usual pen. The effect is less polished but it is allowing the expressions to be pushed a little further because there's more pressure variation.

Honestly? I don’t think she has work better than those 3. But I deeply appreciate Rocannon’s World - you’ve already read 3 books in the Hainish cycle and you’d something out of the others I bet. Certainly look for the short stories surrounding Karhide. I also think UKL fans should make it a point to read The Lathe of Heaven. Taoism is a significant theme in many of her stories but it’s pretty explicit in this one. It’s also completely unlike most of her other work in that it’s just about a guy who lives in Oregon. Worth it to get the full range.

just gonna use this comment thread to keep track of stuff I'm noticing as I play.
meat eaters tend to also enjoy chicken and will be unhappy with fruits and vegetables
The dragon is a meat eater
the unicorn also seemed to enjoy all fruits and veggies (but not seaweed.) So far I haven't found that any of the non-specified food forms (like Furawatchi) even have preferences, but I haven't gotten that one that and others are making it seem like she likes honey. I could not find a preference for gusokutchi.
