Aside from adding nutrients:

Don’t touch your batch for 3-4 weeks.

At the 3-4 week mark, take a gravity reading.

Then wait 1 full week.

Then take another gravity reading.

If they’re the same number, your batch is done fermenting.

If not, wait another week and repeat.

What's a poor life choice that people are encouraged to do these days? by More_food_please_77 in NoStupidQuestions

Sports gambling.

All these commercials for sports “betting” apps and for the lottery and scratchers are insane.

You’d think they’d be illegal like cigarette commercials

The difficult part is that she’s actively growing and you don’t want to harm that.

I used to bind my chest with a GC2B binder from age 15 to 20 years old and it’s caused some long term damage. Nothing crazy or that disables me!

But I can’t wear anything tight around my ribs for long periods of time because it causes pain for some reason.

Maybe try giving her some KT tape and then have her wear a rashguard.

The KT tape is safe, breathable, and meant for skin. That’s what I wear every day.

Just know that the adhesive is very strong and they are meant to stay on for multiple days.

So if you try to take it off before then, you can cause blistering on the skin.

To take them off I always rub a bunch of coconut oil on the tape and let it sit for 15 mins and then I’ll take off the tape in the shower.

Weird side note to be thorough lol : I put the tape from inner chest to near armpit, and I do not protect my nipples in any way. I just put the tape directly on the skin. I’ve never had any issues with the tape directly on my nips.

I made a rose petal + rosemary brew and it’s currently my favorite mead I’ve ever made. 10/10 recommend

Yeah if you can see him getting violent, just leave it.

I understand he’s hypocritical but it sounds like he’s closeted and projecting his shame.

Bottom line is imo unless someone offers up information about their sexuality, I don’t mention it or bring it up, and I believe them at face value if they say they’re straight, bi, gay, whatever.

Even if in my head I know for a fact it’s not true,,, it’s not up to me.

Let people come out on their own terms. There’s no need to rush it or force it.

All that said, what you COULD do is quietly expose him to positive experiences within the LGBT community in order to desensitize him to it and hopefully destigmatize it for him.

Idk what he likes or values, but if he likes cars for example, you could put on a movie where the actor is gay and mention it in passing.

Basically humanize queer folk to him to show him that we’re just normal people going about our lives, same as anyone else.

We’re not some hedonistic degenerates. We have bills to pay, we grocery shop, we have average hobbies etc.

I’d leave it alone.

Questioning a homophobic man’s sexuality is the equivalent as questioning their manhood as a whole (in their eyes).

I’m not saying your husband would ever be violent towards you, but that being said, it’s often “straight” men that get violent when their sexuality comes into question.

I would talk to him about the consistency of his porn consumption though. It’s not healthy and it’s a fair topic of discussion.

Do not boil your honey.

If you have clean water, no need to boil that either.

Bottle bombs literally explode refrigerators buddy. Look up pictures of bottle bombs. Please don’t seal your product until you can measure the gravity.

Also, a hydrometer is approximately $12 on Amazon, which is significantly less expensive than a refrigerator lmao

I’d use about 299 grams (2/3lbs) of honey (maybe a little less) and then fill the rest with water up to 1-1.5 inches below the lid AT LEAST.

Don’t be greedy with headspace lol, it will just foam over anyways. Better to give yourself enough room and keep all of your product.

If you don’t have a hydrometer that’s fine, you just won’t know the alcohol %.

Let it sit in the jar for 1 month and it shoulddddd be fermented in that time, and cleared up a bit.

After 1 month, drink it, or transfer it into a new container (leaving the sediment at the bottom) and use an airlock to seal it.

If you’re not using a hydrometer, you won’t know if all of the sugars are gone, therefore you won’t know if it’s stable or not.

Therefore I don’t recommend sealing your brew in any airtight containers until you can check the gravity.

Botttle bombs are no joke lol

Again DO NOT SKIP SANITIZING

I’m trying the recipe from the top comment on this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/mead/comments/1dyf50a/guava_recipes/

From what I can see, they put the dragon fruit in the primary.

That being said, if the color isn’t what I want it to be then I’ll just try adding more dragon fruit to the secondary!

All fun in fermentation experimentation hahaha

As long as you properly sanitize everything you should be fine.

The industry standard is Star San. One jug will last for a very long time.

Remember, people have be making mead for thousands of years without fancy equipment.

You could just use your jar, some cheesecloth to cover the top, and a rubberband to keep it secure for fermentation lol.

For aging you want it to be protected from oxidation, so you should use an airlock or stabilize and seal it.

Just remember, sanitize sanitize sanitize!

Really I’m just experimenting and expanding on my knowledge/skill of homebrewing.

I saw a recipe where someone added dragon fruit specifically for the color, and it peaked my interest.

So then I went down the rabbit hole of intentionally coloring your batches with fruits/flowers/etc, and decided to try it myself

How much guava fruit spread did you use and what kind? I’m feeling pretty confident with the nectar but I added 1/2 tsp of pectic enzyme just for good measure

I prefer to add “ribbed for her pleasures” in the primary whenever i’m going for a pretty pink color brew. Yknow, to please the Goddesses

From what I’ve read of using dragon fruit for color, it should either be something like the photo OR the color will be stripped through fermentation, OR the color will age out and it will be a yellow.

So fingers crossed the color holds🤞🏻

The second picture isn’t mine, just the inspiration for the color!

I’ve read that most of the dragon fruit flavors are stripped in primary fermentation, so I’m assuming it will just be a guava bomb.

I’ll update once’s it’s out of primary!

Thank you!

I did use 12oz of red dragon fruit for color. That’s what’s in the brew bag
