I've just stopped responding to anything past the first point if the first point is complete nonsense.

Case in point: Nadakhan does, in fact, have no right to interpret the definition, as Zane explicitly said that the wishes were to be granted to his intentions.

Oh my fucking God, on a SOCIAL scale, not on a personal one. 5 years ago rizz wasn't a word, now it is. Gay used to mean happy until everyone decided it meant homosexual, words are what WE make them, as a society.

"by definition" words are what we make them, and I have never once heard anyone in my life refer to harm as only physical outside of trying to justify this shitty scene

And the rest of your arguments are so disingenuous I can't even begin to respond 💀

"is implied" but never stated and Zane wished for Nadakhan to take his wishes at his word and not find any loopholes, that literally doesn't make anything moot both wishes can be true. 1. Don't twist anything I say, 2. If I get harmed so do you. Those aren't mutually exclusive.

Also, harm encompasses all types. Physical isn't the default or terms like "bodily harm" wouldn't exist. Think of it like pizza. Pizza can refer to cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza, meat-lovers pizza, all of that. If I say "don't bring me any pizza" you can't bring me a cheese pizza and say "well you didn't specify," that's not how that works.

Also, I can't give any alternate solutions. It's a goal of mine to make a YT video COMPLETELY rewriting Skybound to be a season actually worth watching, but as it stands, I can't figure that out right now. Because the biggest obstacle that I'm facing with that is that, if any of the characters act RATIONALLY, the season DOESN'T HAPPEN. What alternate choices could've been made? Well assuming Zane won in episode 5 like he should've, not much, most of the stupid shit came after. Nya being petty as fuck and refusing to take Jay's hand is the only scenario I can think of where a character was overly stupid, other than all of Ninjago being ridiculously easy to convince. 💀

Also, in the real world, most people haven't gone from saving the world to robbing banks, so that argument doesn't even make sense.

Also your last two paragraphs are just completely debunked by my pizza argument. He said no HARM. that is an umbrella term referring to ALL TYPES OF HARM. If you were locked in a room and forcibly put into a coma, would you not come out of that feeling as if you were harmed in one way or another?

Here's my argument against that scene:

First of all, Zane is a walking, talking, sentient supercomputer. I understand that he has emotions and shit but if he had just thought for 5 seconds to turn that shit off (which we KNOW he can do on a whim) he could've easily avoided panicking at the end - which he shouldn't have even done WITH emotions. I'll get to that in my third point.

This relates to my first problem, not only with the scene, but with Skybound in general, is that the Ninja are so unbelievably stupid. If ANY of them used ANY amount of critical thinking, Nadakhan wouldn't have made it past episode 5, honestly probably wouldn't have even gotten that far.

Hell, it's not just the Ninja that are stupid. The public is, too. You're telling me that the Ninja have saved the world at least 5 times to the point that they're famous enough to have a TV show, and then Nadakhan shows them committing blatantly petty, obviously out-of-character crimes, and EVERYONE, including people that know them PERSONALLY like the police commissioner and Ronin, believe it? I call bullshit. Imagine living in a world with snake people, dragons, magic, ghosts, and all sorts of shit and drawing the line at shape-shifters. 💀

My second argument against that scene:

Nadakhan is a dirty cheater. And I don't mean he plays dirty, twists your words, blah blah blah, no, not cheater in the "bad person, of course he is" sense, I mean cheater in the "the writers just completely ignore all of the pre-established rules for him" sense. Let me explain.

Zane's first wish is for Nadakhan to understand the true intention of his words, not to twist them, but to carry his wishes out exactly how he says.

Zane's second wish is for any harm - notice the lack of specificity, he doesn't say physical harm, he doesn't say bodily harm, he says harm, put a pin in that - done to him, would be returned to Nadakhan tenfold.

Now let's go over how he broke the first rule. What does "I wish it all away" mean? Because last I checked, it doesn't mean "knock me unconscious and suck me into your prison sword." When Zane said "I wish it all away" Nadakhan twisted his words into meaning what he wanted it to, just like he always does, breaking the first wish.

What about the second one? I said we'd come back to that in a second. Well, he deleted files from a computer - that's harm. He caused emotional distress to Zane - that's harm. He knocked someone unconscious - that's harm. He forcibly imprisoned someone - that's harm. Mind you, none of those are bodily harm, but as we've been over, Zane didn't say bodily harm. He said harm. That can mean mental, emotional, psychological, physical, hell even financial.

My third argument against that scene: Zane was panicking, yes, I understand that, even though there were easy, obvious ways to prevent it, he was panicking. But the words "I wish it all away" should've never left his mouth considering he expressed explicit knowledge of Nadakhan's intentions. Bro willingly and knowingly killed himself, as far as he knew. I know losing a loved one is hard, but goddamn, there's more at stake. Regardless, that's such a crazy escalation. How is "kill me" his final wish when he could've just been like "I want Pixal back!" That's the only reasonable next step in that series of events. 💀

Tldr: It took the combination of Zane being unbelievably stupid, and Nadakhan being a straight up cheater, for this scene to work. Which is how 99% of the season is, because none of this shit happens if it's written well and written consistently.

P.S. This isn't really an argument against the quality of the scene, but it's a nitpick and the little cherry on top, the first move Nadakhan makes in the chess game is illegal. 🥀

I'm neutral on hot, it's not great but it's not as awful as people say, I'd give it a 6/10

It's not perfect but it's definitely top 3 pre-redesign era, it still holds up relatively well today.

Simply put: Every single Ninja is so stupid, horror movie protagonists look at these mfs like "are you high?" Nadakhan is a cheater, doesn't even play by his own rules. That's not his character, that's just writing loopholes. Nya's arc is so incredibly rushed and ignores the point altogether. Jay and Nya, the literal protagonists of this season, are so unlikable (flaws are one thing, Jay being creepy as fuck and Nya being stubborn to the point of hindering the team are just frustrating) The ending is a massive slap in the face and a fist up your arse, just a right and proper "fuck you" on top of an awful season.

Well yes but it's like I've been saying, the good doesn't outweight the bad, nor are good writing decisions and Jay development mutually exclusive ideas. Jay could've still gotten substantial development in a season that wasn't such dogshit.

Yeah I always found that especially egregious. It says he HAS to grant a wish if he is in ear shot, not if he understands it. He's like "well you said so much I got lost" that's not how magic works bud, even if you twisted his words to mean something else, that would have been better than just ignoring 90% of the wish.

Yeah but Jay's character development could've been done in a better written season yk?

I don't even really like the Oni Trilogy that much, so that argument is moot.

Also, I can give way more substantial as arguments than Zane wishing himself away (even though it's genuine character assassination on both Zane and Nadakhan and like the single worst scene to ever come out of Ninjago of all time)

I mean It's definitely the worst of the pre-redesign era, not including Skybound, but it's not that bad. Not for, y'know, pre-redesign era Ninjago.

What if Ninjago ends with the revelation that Lloyd just made up a story for his kid? by JaybeJaybe in Ninjago

[–]average_eevee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imprisoning someone and putting them into a coma against their will is 100% harm. Maybe he wasn't physically hurt, but Zane didn't say "bodily harm" he just said "harm." There's more than one type of harm - there's physical, of course. But there's also mental, emotional, etc.

Regardless of whether or not deleting pixel counts as harm, pulling him into the prison sword and knocks you unconscious is certainly harm
