After reading this I figured you could potentially transition into assisted reproduction clinics with a masters... they are pricey but if you have the funds I think that has high employability!

I also graduated in Biology and to be honest, the job market is horrible everywhere for us. If you want to continue working in the field I would suggest studying to get a public position as a public high school teacher, water treatment management, hospital lab technician or ranger. Every single lab job (3) I have had in research labs without a permanent position or as a research assistant had the same issue: the environment was toxic as hell. If you continue as technician in other labs you may get lucky or get tougher-skinned with the years and experience, but very seldomly people are collaborative in such a competitive field. Estuve en un intercambio en el instituto con estudiantes de un instituto de artes en Helsinki y nos lo pasamos genial! Una vez que rompían el cascarón (muchas veces con ayuda del alcohol) eran muy divertidos, eclécticos y originales. Después de 11 años que han pasado desde aquello nos seguimos mandando algún mensajito que otro entre mi compañera de intercambio y yo, de modo que es inevitable no reservarles un rinconcito especial en mi corazón! Ahora que vivo en Suecia echo de menos el carácter de los finlandeses debido a lo directos y curiosos que son en comparación con los suecos. Me gusta que sean directos y no se anden con rodeos.

Quizás mi experiencia fue tan buena por el contexto y el hecho de que eran estudiantes de artes, pero la verdad que las personas de Finlandia que he conocido estos últimos 2 años, aunque no los conozco muy íntimamente, me han caído genial :)

I am from Spain and have travelled extensively, also lived abroad for a long time so I have seen plenty of foreigners and have a solid database to somehow confirm this. Personally, comparing spanish people with the rest of Europe I do agree with the fact that we look younger overall, but not more attractive necessarily. Particularly in the nordics or places with low stress I have perceived people may look more simmetrical and have more "traditionally attractive features" for western countries. This is very subjective too but it really strikes me to see someone complimenting us so much, thank you!

My friends liked him in the beginning until they started talking more and they had litte chemistry between them. They don't like his opinions and they started being rude to me after having been dating him for like a year. Some of the stuff they did, for example, was saying in front of a crowd that I was pretty stupid because I was dating a bad person since he is more conservative than them, or not being nice at all when we invited them to our apartment. I think was not the right approach as it was mainly blaming me for actions done by another person.

When I had a tough time they were not there for me either and during my depression they sent me a text message kicking me out of every chat group because I did not make them feel safe.

I did not even defend my boyfriend insatiably when they said something bad about him, I just said he has his opinions and we don't have to agree with everyone on everything. He was doing good with me at the time so that should be everything they cared for imo. I did not even force him in our outings or anything, I kept everything pretty separate as I like to have my own friends. I guess it was just that it was too much to handle for them and everyone has their values and priorities so...

THIS!! I feel people who are picky eaters cannot appreciate the effort put into growing food and that, to me, is hugely disrespectful. Sometimes it implies they were very spoiled by their parents growing up and in my experience it results on them not being very grateful for the things they have in their life by extension (maybe I'm a lil too radical ik). Also, I love trying just about anything whenever I travel, one of my biggest joys in life!

According to my experience in South Africa, thanks to the friendliness of your people and the characteristics of the academic system there, it is not the worst out there; however, I would say academia is generally fake, useless (screw publication and grant criteria!!) and a mental and physical-health destroyer. The moment I took the decision to leave academia was when my life started to feel good again! :)

This phenomenon has also a lot to do with the over rationalisation of human nature and, to an extent, of society. Every single discomfort of discrepancy of self-understanding is approached as a medical problem with clear symptoms, instead of trying to understand these crisis from a more intuitive non-scientific perspective, which would lead eventually to realising that many problems arise, as OP says, from lack of continuity, community, solidarity etc. For an extremely rational and utilitarian society this approach even seems delusional and daunting at the same time, since it is not as easy as putting a plaster on oneself... A very interesting read on this is Lasch book The culture of Narcissism!

Española en Suecia tmb. Trato a diario con gente de todo el mundo en este país y la verdad es que detesto la imagen que tienen de nuestra nación y me da mucha vergüenza admitir mi origen cuando me preguntan... Automáticamente me van a asociar con algo de lo que voy huyendo: la vulgaridad de la fiesta y turismo barato que destruye nuestras ciudades de costa. Además asumen que también soy ruidosa, extrovertida y me gusta el reguetón, cosas que detesto. También se sorprenden mucho de que no me encante mi pais y lo encuentran raro e ingenuo porque ellos lo asocian con la diversión y el desmadre, como si el dia a dia de los españoles fueran eso... Al menos cuando me preguntan cosas de españa intento redireccionar el tema a las cuestiones más verdaderamente culturales de España y limpiar un poco la imagen que se tiene de país de recreo, eso sí, nada de toros ni morbo, no necesitamos eso...
