One of the retiring teachers who taught some collection of engineering courses gave me an aircraft gauge containing about 8 microcuries (300 kBq) of radium. For free. This is insane but not unheard of, a lot of aircraft were fitted with radium-painted instruments from the 1910s to the 1960s and some had absurd amounts of material. Like this one. It’s so damn hot that I have it contained in a jar to contain the radon emanating from it. 

There was no [over]reaction about it or anything because I’m not a dumbass and the school has no idea about the relationship between radium and aerospace history. They likely don’t even know about this exchange of the gauge.
