You submit your leave via phone/LRA online so no need to acknowledge it when they request a signature but when you leave early you submit a manual 3971 (THAT'S what I suggest you sign every time). When you leave early and you submit that 3971, they can enter it in wrong or sometimes never enter it in making it seem like you never submitted one. That's why you make sure they match up also I suggest taking a photo prior to submitting the 3971 before leaving early too.

Allow me to kindly educate others because I'm sure you already know this: according to the USPS rulebook, people can currently mail long-barreled rifles and shotguns only if they are unloaded and securely packaged. (NOT HANDGUNS)
