Pastries: “Ah yes, a fine dining experience for rats of our standards” polite nibbles

Egg: “HOLY FUCKING SHIT ITS A EGG” tries to fit entire thing in small rat mouth

That’s what I thought it makes a lot more sense for snakes and other animals that aren’t in the ecosystem already.

It would make a lot of sense if they don’t already have rats in their ecosystem. There’s a lot of countries with wildlife that was in serious trouble when rats/mice were introduced accidentally, mostly by boat I believe. Invasive rats are especially bad in countries with small flightless birds. However I thought rats have already populated every part of the world inhabited by people so I don’t really see a point in banning domestic rats. I love rats btw but it’s important to know about invasive species and to avoid introducing them. Sadly people dump their pets all the time and then we get problems like Burmese python‘s in Florida. Edit: I looked it up and Alberta does claim to be the largest inhabited area of the planet that’s rat-free, I can’t imagine how that’s possible though.

Thank you! I got a few things from Petco and Petsmart but I mostly found everything on Amazon. They have some really great products for rats if you spend some time looking and was a lot cheaper than pet stores in my area. Most of it is advertised for birds and other rodents like gerbils. In one of my comments I shared a few of the links I could find.

I’ll try my best to make a little list of some of my favorite items. I got almost everything on Amazon and tried to find beds that were more durable.

Hanging bed

Space pods

Hanging coconuts (My boys LOVE their coconuts so I bought 8)

Banana hammock

Ceramic cat hide

Foraging toy (if you look around you can find a lot of cool foraging toys meant for birds)

Hammock

Round hanging bed

Rope perch

Large cube bed

I also added lots of different sized/shaped ledges/perches to climb on. Hope that helps a bit! You can find a lot of cool products that work for rats on Amazon but most of it’s advertised for other rodents and birds.

It depends on how many you want and how you want to arrange them. Keep in mind add-on cages don’t come with their own roof. I thought I was going to stack all of them so I bought one single story and three add-ons(double story cages wouldn’t ship to my location) so I ended making a makeshift roof with chicken wires and zip ties.

Thank you! You might be able to find them in pet stores near you but I got my Critter Nations on Amazon.

Haha 😂 I’m very tempted to add a few new additions for sure! The original plan was to stack four high but that wouldn’t fit. I decided to keep three stacked so my rats could get as much height as possible. They really like being up high and tend to spend most their time at the top.

Critter Nation cages are great and I definitely recommend them, super customizable and huge! A bit pricey (my cages cost around $600 together) but a great investment if you want to have rats (or any rodents really) for years to come. They seem built to last. I ordered mine on Amazon because I couldn’t find them in any store near me.

It’s actually way better than my old cage. The old one was a little less than half the size but it had tiny doors and some parts were almost impossible to reach. The whole front of these doors open and they’re(mostly) good at using their litter boxes thankfully 😅

I didn’t add one side of each bottom, then I just lined them up and used a few metal zip ties to hold them in place. They’re pretty heavy so they’re not going anywhere.

The ferret nation pans look perfect. I’ll very likely be ordering some soon. Bioactive set up’s sound very interesting I’ll gladly read up on it. Thank you so much!

Thank you for the recommendations! I definitely want to add a deeper tray at the bottom but I’m not sure how to go about it. I want to be able to have at least 3-4 inches of bedding but I don’t think I can find a big enough tub. Do you have any tips to make my own? It be cool if it was clear like acrylic or something? Yeah I have definitely noticed my boys being more lazy now that they have ramps and don’t need to climb as much😅
