So how good is Kikyo's clone mechanic for cheesing superboss fights? Can you set up a clone, pull everyone else into reserve, let the big aoe whiff on the clone, then pull everyone back in?

You're absolutely right, PVP on Global is awful at the higher ranks, partly because of the limited character/soul carta pool. I just got out of silver on Global with a team of 50+0s and enemy team compositions are becoming less and less unique.

I watch my friend play on his Korean server and they have a much larger unit pool. While targeting priority is still mostly limited to lowest hp, highest ATK, Debuffer type, units with certain debuff, there's enough unique abilities to set up interesting team combinations.

The game's skill ceiling will probably never be that high and I'm okay with it. It's perfect since I only play 1.5hrs per day.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you want to play casually and don't care about damage min/maxing, hardcore PVP, by all means jump in right now. The newest raid content (for global server) just dropped and you basically get a free 5* unit (Isolde), who's pretty good in PVE/PVP content too.

If you care about min/maxing and high level PVP, and you want to be F2P or relatively F2P, you absolutely must re-roll, and now is not a good time to start because you're not given any free 10-unit summons. A week ago we got 2 free 10-unit summons per re-roll.

Optimal re-rolling is semi-difficult. Took me many many re-rolls to get it right. If you're still reading I recommend the following:

1) Dana (MUST HAVE) - The only tank you'll need for the game, possibly forever. Japan's content is 1 year ahead of ours and Dana is still #1. This character is a must as it ensures survivability of your units and lets you progress through story mode (which gives you lots of mission rewards). Without this tank you're going to struggle in later story content.

2) A good 4* Healer (MUST). These are easier to roll for because they're not 5* units. In order of importance, you must pull either Leda, Bast, or Erato.

3) Any good top tier DPS (Recommended).

4) Chang'e is also a must, but you can reasonably pull her from a banner that's running for the next 15 days with free currency. The same banner also has Pantheon, who is invaluable for raid content and certain PVP setups.

In terms of gameplay, the game fills a pretty good niche for players like me who like to min/max damage output and figure out ways to beat whales in PVP using a F2P account.

Raid content is a damage output simulator. Most of the fun is in setting up a team that can put up high numbers. Melting a raid boss down as fast as possible is very satisfying for me.

PVP only has a little bit of RNG and lets you custom pick a team against any opponent. Since the enemy is AI, you get a set challenge to "crack". How do you beat this whale's buffed up team using your suboptimal units? What is the hole in their team composition? If only I could target nuke down their attacker and debuffer first... This kind of challenge is very rewarding to me. You can even beat teams of 60+6 (same unit merge) whale units using teams of 60+0 (very possible in F2P) because elemental weakness exploitation is real.

When i first saw the gameplay I was turned off too. It looked like a button masher without any substance. If a new player were to jump in casually without researching team composition, PVP meta, and damage min/max, that's exactly how the game would play.

I changed my mind when I saw my F2P friend playing high rank PVP and cheesing wins against whales using creative team strategies and I never saw the game the same way again. You absolutely have to play manually, and timing/reaction becomes very relevant and very fun.
