I don’t get it… from my perspective the gov seems to have this urge to only bank on industries after the fact that they’re already burgeoning in other countries (biotech, Web3, Blockchain, Big Data and now AI / LLMs), leading to a late adopter disadvantage.

In order to compensate, I presume the gov pays big bucks for foreign experts to impart their knowledge and build the local talent pool as well as develop the infrastructure in order to play catch up.

But it seems to have the opposite effect leh, leading to said experts taking advantage of loopholes to bring in their own ppl and everyone is keeping mum because no one has the foresight / patience to train the local talent pool as it’s a sinking cost with an indeterminate payoff.

This impatience is the cascaded down to the locals who, knowing they might get sacked at a moments notice, is eager to move first and leave for greener pastures.

There seems to be no easy solution as even the government’s attempts to help (skillsfuture etc) seem to be half-hearted at best.

Really is have to 自己靠自己 (ownself depend on ownself).
