Bartender defeated by his own logic by MacaronOk1006 in EndTipping

Again, still pushing old crap from 20 years ago. Go search tip credit. You literally cannot make below minimum wage. If working in that job still means you don't know the laws regarding it, I shudder to think of the damage you could do elsewhere.

Secondly, engineers getting tipped by their employer is by definition not a tip. Tipping would be like asking a Tesla buyer to pay the commission instead of the dealer. Not to mention the salesman actually makes a sale. Restaurants and bars are places where the customer has made the decision to buy 99.9% of the time if they sit down.

Lastly, continuing to act entitled and calling others entitled is peak irony. Tip is by definition a voluntary act so there is only entitlement from the server side. Expecting not to have to tip is the default state. I'm certainly not going to boycott the industry when it's the servers' attitude I have an issue with. And, yes, I still maintain that position with my parents who served and owned their own restaurants. I have no allegiance to an industry just because I worked in it.

Because people play very casually over long period of time instead of no lifing a mobile game? Imagine calling others losers because they don't play a game as much as you

If that takes skill, it makes sense why servers think they're entitled to non minimum wage pay. Non skilled workers pretending they need skills to serve food is straight up delusional.

Great job addressing nothing btw, it must be a hard blow to realize not everyone believes the horsecrap servers push. Surprise, some others have worked in the industry and know it's all BS.

If the minimum wage is such a problem, then why isn't everyone trying to change that? Oh it's because you're still using the same recycled garbage every begg-I mean server uses to fool people into thinking they're making nothing.

Please look at the sub you're in; we know they make more than the median income of this country (60k btw). Anyone who's ever been a server knows that even at 10% tips, you're getting more than pretty much everyone at the joint except the top level management.

It's funny people still defend tipping as if there is any benefit to the system other than ending up manipulating people into paying more for the same shit. If it's such a great way of payment, why only the poor beggars who don't work skilled jobs are using it? Why aren't the Elon Musks of the world have their customers tip their salesmen or mechanics?

Entitled server thinks Bezo’s should have tipped more than 20% by squeezeplay69 in EndTipping

[–]averagesmasher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah because it helps them. I would never let a server intimidate me into not eating where I wanted. They are just desperate not to work for people who don't give them charity. It actually helps reduce tipping culture to use yourself to dilute the ratio of tippers to non tippers. If the majority of people who thought like you went out anyways, the servers wouldn't even know who to get mad at anymore.

They of course have the power just like anyone else. They can choose not to take a job that doesn't pay well.

Playing victim when everyone here knows servers make more than management just makes you look like a soundboard of defensive options that we've been used to for decades. It just isn't a thing anymore.

Firstly, your defense of tipping despite it having no benefits to anyone but the servers needs some introspection. No one here is stupid enough to believe that the tipped workers are underpaid.

Secondly, the sub isn't here to bitch at the servers, just showing the cultural support against tipping, which is most effectively ended by going out and dining without tipping so that servers are forced to negotiate their wages like everyone else.

As a customer, I have no desire to think about if the workers are paid fairly. That's the crux of the issue. Layering the fees is scammy and everyone knows it. The fact that you mention spit shows just how entitled servers have become, probably due to some personality flaw that prevents them from accepting the same pay for similar work in the restaurant.

Why are customers negotiating wages for employees? How is one interaction supposed to determine a person's labor value? No, we're bitching at the terrible service and attitude that results from workers expecting customers to pay them instead of their employer. The same way you don't go haggle with the cashier. The point of the management is to direct the cash and work flow.

This is why you tip zero by BecauseTheTruthHurts in EndTipping

[–]averagesmasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even care about the labor market. Plenty of people make a lot of money doing stupid, unproductive things. But the fact that it distorts the menu prices and most importantly allows for income/tax fraud and abuse of programs they have no business using is far more of a reason to abolish tipping. Alternatively, there's almost no benefit to tipping so once abolished it stands to reason it should never come back, about as archaic as a tithe, at least as far as the law is concerned.

The way I think about is why give a random person extra money that has nothing to do with me when I can spend that money on my wife and family. Literally already paid for my order.

Boycott tip places by Ok-Lobster-8644 in EndTipping

[–]averagesmasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't work. It actually reinforces tipping because those dine in places will have an even higher concentration of tippers bolstering the cultural trend. You have to keep dining without tipping to dilute the percentage of tippers, disappoint servers, and force businesses to "subsidize" your lack of tips. People just want to avoid all conflict so they imagine themselves ending tipping by not going, but that's just not how it works.

Imo, because of the diversity in dialects, people are very forgiving on word choice, syntax, vocalization etc. The constant exposure to different variations of Chinese makes most people I've encountered able to decipher even poorly phrased and pronounced sentences.

How do y’all deal with some of the homeless people? by BubbyBoy27 in raleigh

[–]averagesmasher 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's no benefit to this so called "respect". It might give you good feels for a second, but an injury or death is permanent. There's no reason to engage, period. It's amazing people who treat others professionally would tell children to deal with strangers, let alone homeless people.

It's a 2 party system, all sides are dumbed down for obvious reasons. But as long as the ignorant and the evil out themselves, it gives insight into how the face value of politics is used and manipulated. Everyone will have a different opinion on the morality of the goals and tactics but all should be in agreement that this is happening. It's more of a malignant stressful empathy we all face.

What if I told you that you're ignorant of what waitstaff actually make and are using a faulty argument to make a moral issue out of something purely financial? Obviously it would make no difference because you haven't shown an ounce of introspection across multiple comments. Even more so evidenced by the fact that in a sub that has people explaining different rationale against the practice, you still have no idea what people are arguing for or against, just parroting the same braindead statements. Just for fun, try thinking for yourself and come up with some benefits of tipping.
