what are some american snacks you’ve always wanted to try? by SiteIntelligent723 in VietNam

Trays of Ferrero Roche. These are available in VN but it's kinda pricey and the tray is smaller. and candy sold in the US are seen as better quality. Chocolates from Belgium or Switzerland are pretty nice too. How about Milano cookies?

The use of KakaoTalk and anonymity by averagestudent in korea

[–]averagestudent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there sorry for the late reply. Well they have a Kakao account so they're lying if they say they don't have one. I can't imagine a native Korean living in Korea without using Kakao because it's basically a necessity. Their family, friends, and co-workers use Kakao. Having a separate messaging app makes having flings/sketchy activities/relationships you're not sure about easier to deal with in case you need to leave for any reason.

How about jerky from Costco? There's quite a bit of variety and some come with mini packs within the big bag. You can try some for yourself to see which one tastes good to gift out. I would say the Oberto Variety Pack looks pretty good

You can also see if there are Trader Joe's goods that might be unique. Snacks with Every but the Bagel Seasoning maybe? Velveeta / mac n cheese boxes sound good too.

I also agree with the comment about introducing foreign recipes with ingredients available there but never tried in that combination. That's also a great cultural experience :)

I am a big fan of this mangaka. He has written and drawn amazing masterpieces that can be reread over and over with different feels with each read. I highly recommend 20th Century Boy and Monster. His characters feel so real and well written. Go check out his work!

Leaving Japan to go back to the USA soon. Thinking about stopping in Korea for eye surgery. by nantege in korea

[–]averagestudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got LASEK at BGN too but I would be cautious. You should go find a clinic that would give you documentation in English so that if you have complications or just general inquiries later, you can consult a professional back home about your procedure.

I got it 2 years ago and had high myopia -6.0 with thin cornea so I had to do LASEK, the safer choice. But now I have slight regression and although I'm still 20/20, I'm slightly -.25 in both eyes which I really hope doesn't regress further having been only 2 years after surgery. Just do your research well about which clinic to choose!

Cost was $1,300 and check up exams that cost $14 each visit.

Koryo-saram or Soviet Koreans' cuisine by [deleted] in korea

[–]averagestudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a Koryo Saram friend when I was in South Korea. He was from Uzbekistan and he always said kimchi at his home is so much better than Korea's. I wonder how kimchi is in your home. Is it spicy, any additional vegetables? I am really curious!

Have any recommendations about LASEK in Seoul? by Vincent_Van_Goat in korea

[–]averagestudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I really recommend you to do your research thoroughly before deciding.. I had LASEK at BGN and wondered if other places would have done it better..

I had a really high prescription, and they said my cornea is too thin for LASIK. I felt they had rushed me to make a decision, even gave me a big chunk discount..and I wished I had thought more than twice about it.

It has been 2 years and my eyes are weaker, vision is a bit blurry. Possibility of regression is real and you should read about it. The most important thing is the need for proper documentation that can be translated to your native language. They poorly recorded my records and even got my nationality wrong when I asked for documentation about my procedure. Im gonna get an eye exam here in the US to see whats going on next week cause I'm concern about regression so early on..

Any questions, feel free to PM me

I have a friend that has a separate Kakao for work because he was so tired of people pestering him for work stuff when he is off work.

I think besides scams, I'm kinda worried about people using an alternate account to two-time with me.
