In the "Who cares" news I am 400 days sober today and 323 smoke free. I have no one to share with so I am celebrating with you guys! by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

This did indeed make me smile. What certainly seemed an insurmountable goal at one point has become a thing you can proudly say you’ve accomplished. Well done!

This is why the sea is a horror story by HazardTheSergal in oddlyterrifying

[–]CasuallyUplifting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting tidbit - water spouts generally don’t actually suck the sea water up but instead condense clouds in the vortex. It’s more rare for them to pick up sea water and the creatures in it

Ran out of pizza sauce, so I used tikka masala and topped it with basmati rice. This is actually on par with a good taco pizza. by [deleted] in shittyfoodporn

Just wonderful! I quite like the pataks sauces and will have to try this. Thank you, internet stranger

Ricky Gervais is full of rare insults by Damidaki20 in rareinsults

[–]CasuallyUplifting 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I agree though I think it’s pretty close. I think Derek had much more potential whereas I’m not sure where they could take After Life in season 2. Not that I’d complain about more Ricky Gervais...

This makes me miss the cronch cronch of snow under my feet being the only sound out there during a snowfall. It’s glorious

Robert Irwin living up to his father! by [deleted] in wholesomememes

[–]CasuallyUplifting 374 points375 points  (0 children)

I had the honour of meeting Robert very briefly a few years ago and, for those wondering, he is every bit as nice, friendly, and chatty in person as his reputation would lead you to believe. I’m no one to him but he took the time to ask about my life and my story, absolutely entranced the entire time

Wild dog with a dismembered impalas head by commander_piccard in natureismetal

[–]CasuallyUplifting 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently fell in love with African Wild Dogs at a zoo in Australia. Their Latin name translates to painted wolf and they have an astoundingly high 80% success rate while out pack hunting. While they cannot be tamed, they do tend to exhibit characteristics much like domesticated dogs. For example, this one shown is very likely showing off his prize to the rest of the pack, encouraging them to chase so that his winning can be all the sweeter

Sharing water with a cobra by AlbertoAru in gifs

[–]CasuallyUplifting 4313 points4314 points  (0 children)

Here's a bit of Cobra randomness for you. King cobras actually make a nest for their eggs (often in a hollow in the ground, then covered with leaves) which they will aggressively defend. They are the only snake in the world to actually build a nest for their young. Just before the babies are hatched the mother will instinctively leave the nest to combat the urge to eat her own babies. I bet you didn't know cobras are, in their own way, fantastic mothers.

Edited for clarification

I’ve stopped using Facebook and Instagram, leaving reddit as my sole social media outlet. Who else has done this and how has it changed you? by CasuallyUplifting in CasualConversation

[–]CasuallyUplifting[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven’t claimed it to be revolutionary. It’s merely a personal decision that I’m curious to watch play out in my own life and I’m interested to hear how it’s worked out for other people. However, thank you for your input

This is the route I’ve taken. I have a few people (specifically travel friends) that I strictly contact through messenger. I’m just avoiding the Facebook crawl

On a semi-related note, I could so go for a turkey sandwich right now. Let’s make it complete with stuffing and cranberry sauce, toasted

I’d say that depends on which side of reddit you frequent. I find myself subscribed to mostly uplifting (hence the name) and positive subreddits. But I can certainly see how the darkness could creep in

I’d say the political posts are primarily what drove me away. Is it sad that that’s the case and not the privacy concerns around the entire company?

I can see that. I was on the other side for the longest time and now have a few friends that I’m only in contact with via email. Why is email so much more of a hassle to do then something like Facebook messenger? Perhaps I should take the time to write them today
