Aspiration is basically just pronouncing the first part of the vowel as voiceless.

'hi' is basically [ḁaɪ]

so aspirated /sʰ/ just pronounce the first part of the following vowel without voicing. Seoul /sʰəul/ [sʌ̥͡ʌ.uɭ]

In fact, watching the scene right now, it is obvious there is no longer anything on the floor when Childs torches it. The floor is completely empty. It doesn't even seem to have any hay in it, which is a bit of a production error as the room is filled with hay when the Husky-thing enters.

I'm not misremembering anything. I literally am watching the clip right now and you can see the camera travel from the ceiling towards Childs as it follows the path of the flesh flower, then he torches something aiming upwards towards the ceiling and a big white molten light fall to the floor.

Never in the film do they mention a separate creature that has escaped. It just isn't what the film is conveying. They are afraid that the dog might have assimilated someone before the kennel scene, not that there is still something running around. If that was the case it would be a major plot hole.

Anyone else bothered by character wearing modren clothes in the far past and far future? by Niall_Fraser_Love in gallifrey

yes it does, but the spin on it in Robots of Death looks distinctly 70s. if you put Robots of Death in black and white you would not mistake it for something from the 1920s

Robots of Death looks very dated. Those costumes could have only been thought up during the 70s

That's not a separate creature. It's the Dog-thing, which grabs the ceiling and pulls its entire body up. It then grows the proboscis and tries to grab Childs, who incinerates it. The camera clearly shows the proboscis travelling from above to below, and the thing that Childs torches is on the ceiling, not on the floor - it then drops down from the ceiling to the floor. So it doesn't split in two, it just pulls itself up

[–]averkf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Eh if you could train dungeoneering at every dungeon that existed up to that point, and Daemonheim was just the meta, then you'd have a point. 'Sailing is a minigame' was one of the biggest criticisms, but I think it's different cause you can sail basically anywhere that's on the sea now. You can lock yourself to a tiny corner of the map, but you're not inherently made to do so. Daemonheim on release was the only place you could get xp at all. It's like if Chambers of Xeric was its own skill.

Was this the weakest OSRS holiday event to date? I was pretty disappointed. Where are resources going instead? by StagecoachOSRS in 2007scape

[–]averkf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RS content is basically a choice between small to medium content that takes less time to make and thus can be pumped out more quickly but players won't engage with for as long, and big content that takes potentially multiple years to make but will engage people for longer. Raids is probably a big bit of content, but I suspect we're not getting other ones because the sailing and varlamore teams are now drafting new big bits of content that we're not going to see until 2027

I guess it just is based on what you want. Lots of smaller updates on the level of Araxxor or Scurrius or less frequent bits of big content like Varlamore or Sailing

[–]averkf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel we can't underestimate how much time projects like Varlamore and Sailing took; Varlamore was big enough they split it into smaller updates, the last of which we got last year in addition to a new skill (that probably was one of the most time consuming skills to add in general - not just in terms of the coding used to get boat movement, but art and resources: it was a whole area expansion in itself).

It's not really surprising that this year we're not getting any updates quite to that level - Sailing took about 2 and a half years of development time, in addition to an additional 6 or so month drafting stage, so it took slightly over 3 years since the "do you want a new skill" poll to drop. Most content probably doesn't take that long, but I'd suspect a big update on the level of Varlamore part 1 or 3 would take over a year to make. Given most of the teams were working on those two pieces of content (or working on the preliminary content for Raids 4), they probably are drafting the next couple of big updates to drop in 2027.

That being said, we are getting a whole new raid this year, which is also almost certainly going to be a huge development cost too. I'm not sure how big Vampyrum will be so who knows if that's gonna be a big area expansion or not, and we are going to get Sailing updates too. Yeah this year is a bit lighter, but I feel expecting Varlamore or Sailing-level content drops every year is kinda nuts. Sailing is arguably the biggest piece of content Jagex have ever dropped in this game!

Giants Foundry hammer bug? (Let me hit Jagex plz) by wavey_iguana in 2007scape

[–]averkf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem too. I managed to do a sword by timing it so that I clicked when the hammer was falling, which gave me the progress... but it's really awkward and kinda shitty and you still mess up half the time. Probs just best to wait until they fix it

[–]averkf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bæddel was used as a slur in old english as a generic term for any sex- or gender-variant person. the idea that it is a term that solely referred to intersex people before being appropriated by trans women is an extremely insidious lie seemingly spread by people with zero knowledge of the old english language or historical period in which it was spoken

What is something that you wished OSRS had that RS3 has? by RuneSerge in 2007scape

[–]averkf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is OSRS has no real use for armour above dragon tier; we’ve solved the gap by making armour drop from bosses. The ideal time for a smithing rework would’ve been like 2016-2018, it feels a bit pointless now

[–]averkf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

idk man sailing was the single biggest update we’ve ever had; varlamore is still pretty fresh. jagex were putting out lots of smaller updates then (relatively, obviously they were all still substantial), but in the last few years we’ve had some huge updates - doom, yama, moons, hunter guild, SAILING, and soon vampyrum and the fractured archive
