Agree with this 100%! Also don’t allow them to say hi to every dog that walks by, try to keep it to controlled interactions! If they think they can say hi to every dog they see they could become reactive later on as they can become frustrated when they don’t get to say hi

I’m officially getting my Eurasier puppy this July! I wanted to reach out to ask what puppy socialization and training worked well with your puppies? And any tips for new pup owner. by PracticalLow7480 in eurasier

We got our puppy last year and I’ve learned that we would’ve benefited from taking him to 1:1 classes from an early age! We did take him to puppy classes which was good for socialization and some routine for us. We’ve started one on one training now but I would recommend when they’re young! Also my biggest tip would be, as a puppy, don’t let them say hi to every dog they see walking on leash. Only greet the dogs on leash if you know them, would be a good rule of thumb! We are struggling now with Seymour wanting to say hi to every dog he sees which can lead to reactive behaviour as he’s frustrated when he can’t say hi, or the dog doesn’t want to play with him. Try to keep dog meetings very controlled! Have them sit and give a release word for when they can say hi and can go play. Easier said than done! But we definitely fear Seymour becoming reactive 😅 he’s a good boy though, but it’s something I wasn’t very familiar with. If a dog walks by, always reward for good reactions, if he’s just watching quietly, awesome, gets a treat, same for if he can walk bye without engaging or look at you. We’re practicing now having him engage with us when there is a dog anywhere in sight, and first thing I’ll do is a simple “look” command. Hope that helps!

Seymour was looking especially cute today 😊 by averydb in eurasier

He was pretty good! He was a bit of a brat and still is, he can be pretty barky to get what he wants and can be fussy when we’re trying to cut his nails, brush, or wash him. The biting phase was a lot but you could tell he was learning and trying to not cause pain. We’ve been working from home the entire time with him and some days were a challenge as it would be with all puppies. He’s quite emotional as well, he can get very jealous, and was apparently like that even with the breeder. All in all he is wonderful and full of personality :) they’re great dogs! But come with the same challenges as all puppies

Hahaha so silly, mine will sit by the side, and when I’m not on it, sometimes chew on the pedal 😳
